Away to Red Star and then a game against high flying Sheffield United coming up. Do we think they'll win either of those?
Not confident about Belgrade at all, especially without Kane -- that is the kind of game in which he could really make a single-handed impact despite a completely unperformant team. Things are just so bad for Spurs and there's no apparent end in sight. I don't see how Sheffield will be any easier than Belgrade either, despite being nominally "routine" opposition. Colchester showed that there are no more routine opponents for Spurs anymore.
In pure performance terms, Everton may have been a very slight improvement over some of their showings against (again) supposedly "routine" opposition this season - and, indeed, some Spurs supporters are looking hard for a silver-lining there - but any improvement was well within the boundaries of expected variance. I don't think there are any signs yet of sustainable improvement.
Kane doesn't deserve this horror show (nor Son either probably). Kane has been fine or good in every game in spite of the dogshit mess behind him and terrible service. And for all his effort and commitment and being the best player at his club, he gets rewarded by people claiming that his team play better without him and people underrating him because he's not playing like peak RM Ronaldo in a bottom-half team. That Everton game was a good counterpoint to all the idiocy I've had to suffer through this year: no, this team doesn't play better without Kane - significantly worse, on average, actually, except when they're desperate to prove themselves in his absence, which they clearly don't care about anymore - and the Lucas CL hatty was a magic trick to convince millions that he's a unpolished diamond kept out by favouritism instead of a moderately good but limited winger who's already played the best 45 of his career.
None of that last point was aimed at you specifically. Just taking the chance to gloat a bit, especially about the Lucas thing. I've been singing the same song all year. I also really want Kane - i.e. my favourite player - to move on if Spurs can't provide at least the backing he deserves in order to be competitive for individual awards like the Golden Boot. Theoretically, the PL record should be a major incentive for him to favour the status quo but in this team, he isn't going to get a chance to break it. Messi himself wouldn't break the record in a bottom-half team (which is genuinely what Spurs have been for almost a year now). They need to sort their shit out before they lose Kane's loyalty and the squad situation gets even worse: his unusual loyalty shouldn't be mistaken for a lack of ambition because it's clear from interviews that he has both in spades but that ambition will ultimately triumph.
