Speaking of "past it". Doesn't it make you curious? PSG prefers to give Herrera a mega salary (200k/wk? in four year deal), of which I'm sure Rabiot would stay if it was offered to him years ago.

Now they let go this 'exciting' player for a much older player (in football term) with almost no resell value, and is not even THAT good.
Seems completely mental. That's why we couldn't keep Herrera. I have no idea what PSG are thinking to be totally honest.

I dont know much about why Rabiot isnt signing but I believe he was one of their best players last season before the contract standoff?

I get the impression PSG signing Herrera is paving the way to go big for De Gea this summer.

I also think trying to keep De Gea is why United are still negotiating with Mata.

As a player, Rabiot fits United really well. He's a really good all rounder which is the type of midfielder United has always utilised. They've never really had specialist ball winners or holding players or play makers.

There are concerns over his attitude but it could be the ideal time to sign him when he has a point to prove.

Hopefully. I'd jump at any bid over 50 million.

I like Rabiot too. As a player he'd fit perfectly. Dont know enough about him as a person.

If you judge his past, his attitude issues are overstated. He never created issues with his teammates or even the club, the only issue is that he has a big head and a big mouth. The recent drama are mainly down to PSG and the undiplomatic character of his agent, PSG tried to low ball him, supposedly because he is an academy player and they assumed that he would give them a friendly deal, when he finally decided to stop negotiations PSG got bitter. In my opinion they should have paid him from the beginning instead of playing around, he was under a very friendly contract and they should have fixed that a long time ago.

That's good to hear. It's really strange how few rumours there are on where he's going next season. Maybe I just haven't heard them. You'd expect a player of his ability on a free transfer would have been snapped up by a big team by now.

I strongly doubt Rabiot will sign for Man Utd. From what I've seen of him, he is absolutely the real deal and could go to one of the top sides in Europe. That simply isn't a Man Utd side without Champions League football. The draw of working with Pogba might bring him, as could wages, however, and his signing would be, to my mind, a sign that United were back for next season. That would be as long as Koulibaly or similar also came in, and a winger and full-back.

When your budget is vast but still limited, it would be difficult to not consider player like Rabiot who offers quality and is still in perfect age to make a move to demanding league like PL.

Signing quality midfielder these days is in 50m or above bracket and on top of that team needs serious investements in defense and goalscoring department... proper set of wingers is probably also important.

I think we can avoid spending millions on getting Bruno Fernandes by getting Rabiot instead. Bruno is a favorite of mine.... Rabiot would give you pretty much the same impact.

We need both alongside a player who shields a defence as well.

Both completely different players.

I thought Bruno was a player that offers more goals and assists and forward passes.
Bruno no doubt is largely an offensive player but Rabiot offers something in the attacking third as well. It just happens that he's played a lot deeper and his issue with PSG is that they keep playing him as a DM. I'm unsure if Bruno would compliment Pogba. If Bruno is a Pogba replacement, I'm perfectly fine with that.

That's three players. You think Pogba's leaving?
Fellani Herrera left, matic a mere deadwood and pogba alone is not consistent through out the season. There is no depth and quality in the middle left.

I would think Man Utd should have wrapped up the deal by now. What's holding up? Does his mom + agent take Utd's offer and then shop around like she did with Barcelona's back in January?

There is a United offer?

Didn't see any real links, but I tend to ignore "sources" like MEN etc., so that's probably why I missed it.
No smoke without fire. We will find out before the end of July. I am kind of skeptical about how come it takes so long for him to announce his new club for next season.

Do arsenal want him or can't afford him?
We can't afford him that is for sure. We are shopping in the market with Wolves and Leicester, not Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Let alone we are too small a club for him. If we have money we already renew Ramsey's contract.

There maybe a difference in quality but I really like guandozi (can't spell) & I don't think he plays all that different to Rabiot. Do you agree or is guandozi not highly rated at your side?

Too early to say at this point, he is a young player with good attitude at this point. It is a team game and it also depends on the coach formation to bring the best out of the players.

I remember the summer when we signed Schweinsteiger and Schneirdelin, and had Herrera. It looked like we'd solved our midfield issues.

Whatever you think of him he's an upgrade on what we currently have. I'd take him on a free transfer every day of the week.

Thomas Partey + Rabiot with Pogba is excellent quality. Almost a perfectly rounded midfield.

Exactly - whilst I'm not happy with players like Martial getting a 250k contract - if this gets players like De ligt coming to us then players like Rabiot on a free and a large wage makes sense to me.

For all this talk about being the biggest or 2nd biggest team in the world - its time we show this off with our wage structure. Give Rabiot a good contract & if it doesn't work out we could easily get 30-50 mil for him anyway.

This is the sort of thinking that has currently saddled us with Rojo, Sanchez, Darmian and others who are on wages disproportionate to their talent. It is never easy to offload such players on huge wages as they would refuse to take a paycut.

If we are to offer Rabiot north of 150K, we need to be sure he is the real deal and we won't be regretting it. Otherwise, he will become another one of the deadwood who will be difficult to offload due to his wage demands. I have no faith in our scouts.

Signing Rabiot should be a definite move. But we should already have signed him on a pre contract agreement before it was obvious that we weren't getting champions league football.

No idea what the board is doing at all.

Any half decent player sells for 50m these days !(look at Fred) so Rabiot is what you'd call a low risk investment.

I was reading comments from Barca fans earlier, and they were saying Rabiot was Barca's first choice target. But the demands of the mother scuppered the deal. so they instead hijacked the De Jong to PSG transfer.
