I thought a lot on whether I should take him or Chumpitaz 2 rounds ago and Carvalho is one of my favorite modern day CB's so happy to have them both as they offer a lot of versatility depending on the opponent.
Indeed. Classy players, both. Carvalho is one of my favourite modern-day CB's, also.

Chumpitaz was never an option for me given my manager's CB rule! :D

@everyone

Please say after every round if you want to make another pick. This way we can avoid waiting for someone who doesn't.

I'm continuing all the way to the end. However I heading on a camping trip tomorrow and won't have data till Monday evening. So I'll leave a bunch of picks with Physiocrat.

Edit: have PM's Physio with choices for both last picks. Tag him.

At the end of drafting wouldn't it be prudent to have each drafter give a synopsis for the squad they've constructed and the reasons for doing so, outside of 'he looks like a <insert manager> kind of player'?

For example, with Fergie, one of the immediate idiosyncrasies is the requirement that his centrebacks be over a certain height, which in turn blocked me from picking CB's below this height threshold.

There are loads of quirks and stipulations for these managers and it would be both informative and defining in determining how well aligned the drafting has been in respect of the manager we've each got.

I think there's also a good discussion to be had on personnel, which will be missed if we just jump into games.

There's a massive down time between the end of drafting and the games starting - perhaps this could work as a bridge and prevent days of dead air?

Maybe a seperate thread for manager portraits & player profiles? Could also prevent the match threads from getting flooded with overlong writeups. Match threads would then work with summaries & quotes from that thread, delegating the more detailed presentations to it. Actual tactics would still be in the match thread, as they belong there & can't be revealed earlier anyway.

Would also be cool as lasting reference material, could maybe be pinned.

Ya something like that would be cool. This isn't the usual generic draft where you pick for yourself or just to the outlined rules in the OP, but one where your constraints and concepts are pre-set due to the manager you're 'under' and are there for you to work within, which lends itself to conversation over how you got to player X, Y or Z and how, you believe, they match up the manager you're drafting for.

Thought on him; surprised he's so late to be drafted. Very nice for a late pick up.
Same, I've always had him on my shortlist, very good all round defender that could fit into most teams. I think he's one of the older defenders that could easily adapt and play in the modern era.

I can't believe both my picks were still on the board, to be honest with you. Was hoping for one from the two, so delighted to have got them both.

Badly needed Mazzola for his all-round game, aggression and for his goals on top.

I had one player in mind as an alternative to him, so will be interesting if you [get the chance to] pick him and whether you will.
I just noticed you picked him @Edgar Allan Pillow

Agree and agree.

I missed out on one of the monstrously strong, physical greats at CB (had Campbell earmarked in particular) so had to take a different tact and to that end, he was definitely on my shortlist, not least for his pace.

I think that's a useful idea. In the early drafts we'd often post our teams up in the thread and provide some insight into the thought process behind it or to reveal more about less well known players. I can see the value in allowing folk some more time to peruse through it, rather than simply the quick turnaround of a 24-hour match.

Much of this stuff needs to be included in the match threads as well though. There is a head-to-head element, but the USP here is that it is the drafter's team versus the great manager's team and how the styles and choices marry up.

Would be good, removed from the matches themselves, to pick the brains of drafters and ask why this or that was done independent of contest, too.

Xabi Alonso makes way too few appearances in our drafts for some reason. Thought of picking him a couple of times, but never did.

Should appear more often. Seems to be a bench player here as well, would be nice to see him start in one of the rounds at least.

I think it is the DLP issue. How many DLP's who play in front of the back 4 regularly get picked?

That said does anyone remember exactly his position for Liverpool as he was alongside Mascherano rather than a B2B

Think he is one of the few DLP's with more than decent defensive workrate.

In both Liverpool and Madrid, he played in double pivots as DLP but good enough defensive responsibilities.

He is good defensively TBF. Who was next to him in the double pivot at Madrid?
