But Arteta increasingly became a key player and often the lone creative force as Everton struggled to climb out of the relegation zone. When he didn't play, the difference was often embarrassing. So rumours of an impending move to Man Utd in the summer were met with fear and trepidation. Thankfully they proved to be hogwash.

Arteta continued to be Everton's best player by considerable distance, lighting up Goodison with his sublime skill and mesmerising ball control. No surprise then that he was voted Everton's Player of the Season again, after another superb spell as source of most creativity and flair

First up....

Ray
‘the Romford Pele’ Parlour. Outstanding work rate, wonderful professional and absolute pain in the a*se for any midfielder.

Completing my back four Wes Brown. Fabulous servant for United and, in his prime, one of the best defenders in the league at the time.

Guess we need someone between the sticks. Not always the most popular, but with over 100 clean sheets, named premier league goalkeeper of the year in 2009-10, and 4 golden glove awards in 5 years. ..even Messi called him a phenomenon...

I can tell you that I once, in my bloomin' (more or less) youth, walked from Romford to Highgate in the middle of the night. True story. But I didn't do it on account of Parlour, lest anyone be misled.

I hope Gilberto gets a good run in this draft, goes under the radar far too often when in reality his importance to that team cannot be overstated.
You mean to the Invincibles or to Brazil '02?

Hardly a shock. True enough, though - he was excellent at what he did. For that particular team. And therein lies the limitation, or rub, as well. Which shouldn't be overlooked either. If every pawn who made the chessboard bright were to be...sung, then we should sing...sung...ji-sung, that is...in high tones of praise...

Sorry. Carry on. Clearly a decent player. That's all I'm willing to say, actually, about any player here. Decent is the highest level. Some are below that - and I won't stand for it. But most are decent players.

Wes Brown as the 11th pick. Jesus, is he getting underrated here!

Quality defender. Flexible to play CB and RB, good in the air. If not for his injuries, he might as well have had a stellar career with us.
Stellar hair too, don't forget. Best hair in the league - nobody really knew what the hell it actually was.

And a player who could've been even better if not for injuries. It speaks volumes that what he actually did for United - including taking an active part in winning the Champions League - was somewhat disappointing.

Pol took him all the way to the final of the last Premier League draft. Solid enough pick though regardless.

If you take 07-08 as his peak, he's a fantastic pick as a right-back.
No doubt. He's on a level most RBs picked in this draft simply aren't on - and that's a fact. Or a facht. But it's true. He performed at the highest level as a fully functional fullback (an FFFB) for a full season (that would be an FSFFFB= Full Season Fully Functional Full Back), winning the league and the CL in the process.

I love him myself. Salford lad too.

Most teams have better options from United players, others have better RBs from earlier, and again, as @antohan mentioned a few pages earlier about Fletcher and Butt, most people will find it a little harder reinforcing when they need to decide either to not take a United player or replace Brown as well.
