As an aside, I would guess that due to the money they have and the reputation of footballers in general, a lot of high profile players get named in all sorts of incidents regularly all over europe, whether real or not.

No idea what has gone on here, I shamefully have to confess that the first thing that occurred to me was that perhaps he will break up with his Spanish girlfriend and settle down with a nice English girl and stay with us until he is 40.
If he's not in jail

Can we get the thread title updated please, to reflect the current situation and save a lot of needless visits by people into the thread (especially if they read from page 1 first)?

I can vaguely recall that. I mean, I'm not saying a hooker cant be raped, but once money is exchanged, if that was the case, then surely it becomes tricky? My legal background is hazy, but exchange of money represents a contract and agreement.
Exchange of money has nothing to do with the definition of rape or sexual abuse, you can't be violent with a prostitute, if she/he/it says no, it means no.

Watching the reactions on twitter was pretty amusing for the last ten minutes.

So I skipped from page 1 to 16, can someone explain what happened? The tone seems to have changed.

"You and your paper can feck off."
English journalism for you. The tweets on the Mail Sport and Independent's stories about him being sent home have gone. Whereas that Sun article has gone from being about him being sent home (BREAKING: David De Gea ‘sent home from Spain’s squad') to the headline...
DE GEA OFF HOME? Manchester United keeper goalkeeper David De Gea faces calls to be left out of Spain’s squad for Euro 2016
All without a single correction.

Some of the responses in this thread...shameful. Total lack of concern for the allegations other than its potential implications for de Gea, alongside some blatantly misogynistic posts. This is not a criticism of this forum before any attacks me, I imagine you'd get similarly depressing responses on every forum, and I'm aware it was not the majority, but a few people really need to reconsider the views they hold.
Its ridiculous. Exact same thing happened in the Carneiro thread.

Looks like someone took DDG as a French footballer. All the unrest before a tournament, etc.

Marca said De Gea would appear. Doesn't seem he's there.

Aduriz has said that they are not going to answer any question about that

I sincerely fail to understand how people can put their own face on the line by "supporting" people they don't know on matters they know nothing about. Whenever this happens it's always for the celebrity never for the random Joe that was accused of a crime. It's humiliating behaviour.

Still remember dozens and dozens of people screaming support outside a jail when a big TV personality was arrested (and later convicted) for suspicion of paedophilia (our version of Jimmy Savile, with the difference this one was alive and put on trial). Many of them still stand by him no matter what.

It's far worse than screaming "I'm an idiot".

People are too quick to judge, it's not just the media.

Always best to stay on the fence in the early days of these accusations. Wish I could learn that lesson myself. Many will want to leap to the defense of the guy, others will quickly want to defend the victim, I guess it is all in the way you do it. It is natural to hope that the charges against a player for your club are not true.

People are really on the attack here today. It's a figure of speach. Ofcourse I dont mean it. But I'm on DeGea's side. Until proven guilty otherwise
I think it was pretty clear what you said was in jest, but I still wonder why people would pick "sides" in cases like this. Isn't it far more logical to remain neutral and expectant? Would you honestly stand by the side of, say, a teacher accused by the press on equally flimsy grounds? Is football that important to you? I'm only in the "side" of my clubs footballers on footballing relating issues, would never stand by them in any kind of personal issues. I know nothing about them.

This thread.

My favourite part was when someone had to explicitly tell another poster not to post pictures of child pornography.

Now we can all get back to worry about real problems. Like Madrid coming in with a bid.

De Gea potentially into the Ryan Giggs Club, where great players who are huge cnuts off the pitch are granted exclusive membership.
