Alvaro Fernandez Carreras

What’s made him so impressive at U23 level this season then? Not the norm for a defender to pick up POTY to my knowledge so assume he’s been quality

Fernandez has been the under 23s most consistent player this season. Consistently a strong performer. The award is well deserved.

He loves to rampage up and down the left flank. Atm much better going forward then defending..Lacks speed over long distances but has fantastic balance and a lovely first touch. His decision making is good for his age. Has a decent cross on him and loves a cut back.

Like Elanga last year it looks like he is starting to have outgrown the u-23s... He needs to be challenged next season. Might be regular training with the first team then maybe a spell on loan... Who knows? he might be given a senior opportunity ..take his chance and run with it, we've seen it happen before...

Hopefully he does well on loan because the role of the fullback is both about overlaps and underlaps, and the requirement to tuck-in and occupy a role in central midfield is important now. And Fernandez does have the technical ability to develop into that role.

Happy for him, hope he does well. His defensive game will be tested for sure

Came off the bench in Preston's opening leave game draw with Wigan, played LWB

Yeah - didn't get a chance to do much attacking as they were reduced to 10 men, 5 mins after he came on. Game ended 0-0

Going off Twitter he’s been superb.

Hopefully Malacia replaces Shaw and we can have Fernandez/Malacia next year

Was really curious why we went with Malacia when he was supposedly really highly rated. Hope he does well.

Him getting regular football in the championship might be better than 10 appearances here...

Got high hopes for this kid.. hopefully gets some starts under his belt in the league now. Very promising.

What the .... Not impressed that we're bending over backwards for all of his demands.

Perhaps Arnold and Murtough are over-compensating for the previous Woodward regime and trying to be 110% supportive of ETH this time.

According to Whitwell some at United felt he was ready. ETH wanted Malacia.

In terms of recruitment, your head of youth development should have a bigger vote than the manager. Its where we've repeatedly failed

Anyone know if he was playing LB in a 4, or as a LWB? Just curious.

That was some nice football for the second assist.
