Interesting. So, this is his first time in #6. He did well. But, Mourinho always had primarily defensive players there like Makalele, Alonso, Matic etc. Alonso is a special case though as he could dictate play and get stuck in. In our team, Schneiderlin seems best fit for this duty.

Carrick's first touch almost always coincides with him moving and positioning his body to make the pass with his second touch. And he's been here for a decade. Carrick has declined a lot tho in defense of those posters, he isnt the same Carrick as two and four years ago, who was a master in forward passes and one touch, he was quite poor last season when fit.
He still plays with few touches, he's just not as good. The same people were saying the same things five years ago also.
Watch the game. Count how long till Carrick release his pass. Then watch Pereira this game, and count how long before he released his pass. Majority time, Pereira takes less than half the time Carrick spent on ball. Carrick may not necessarily take more touch, but Carrick definitely slower to release his ball. It's early day, but Pereira gives off the vibe off a #6 who can speed up the tempo like Scholes while Carrick usually prefers a slower pace.
spot on, doesn't matter how few touches Carrick takes, his general movement is terrible, takes ages for him before he release the ball and he's in big trouble when the opposing team presses, actually he's decent in covering the ball and while not built like a tank, he can hold on to it but he passes it usually backwards as he doesn't posses the ability to quickly turn and dribble out of situations, that's what Pereira has but he on the other hand needs to bulk up a bit or just build this awarness, sometimes he's a bit sloppy in possession in a way that he let the opposing player come too close but that can be trained, otherwise he has all the skillset to boss games from deep, Carrick could do it but he needs slow paced games when we are on top..
I'm not sure he'll be another Verrati but I think he could become a dribbling Pirlo lite. Andreas also has free kicks and I've seen him do good long shots; only one letter difference in his forename.
Either way I expect Pereira to shine if given the opportunity to. I think the variety in his play may open doors for him especially deeper ala Modric. The legs of Carrick and Schweinstiger won't carry them far, Fellaini doesn't exist and Rooney will very likely be out of form, this should leave room for him to compete with Herrera, Schneiderlin, Mata and maybe Blind.
