Ah yes, the reason we are all prospering in my country is because the Anglo-Saxons occupied my country and looted everything. The world needs to worship our liberators. What a disgusting post.
I am talking about cultural influence. Not colonialism. I have never claimed the British Empire have never wronged Argentina. Please read what I write instead of exploding with emotions.

To be honest, although LVG had a clear style of play and approach, it was never a style the fans would have warmed to, in his time here it neither provided many results or entertainment.

There's no telling how it might have progressed if we had kept him for longer, but appointing him and letting him go in such a totally different direction style-wise for United and then sacking him put us back massively.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning his sackening. But I think you would have been better off appointing someone who continued what he started instead of doing a full 180 by hiring Mourinho.

Whether or not the fans would have accepted that is a different question. I also recognized that the United fans in here have certain reservations regarding a possession-oriented style of football but in the end, success will always appease the majority of fans. If you try a pizza place for the first time and it tastes awful, you don't give up on pizza in general but on the restaurant.

I despise Di Maria but LVG was fecking toxic,

How many ex players have complained about this guy ? No one buys into LVG Hype more than him, bitter old fool who clearly struggled to adapt to modern day football, similar to Mourinho,

The way he still complains about his tenure here like it was all roses and he was hard done by, horrendous football, dinosaur manager mentality and just a very strange human being.
Funny thing is I know one ex player who has consistently praised him to the skies-higher than Ferguson!- and that is "my captain always plays"

But you are still claiming that the original culture of South America was primitive and the English brought them out of it.

This post is stupid from a variety of reasons, not the least because potatoes originate from South America.....You just degraded the cultural influence from South America...
Who brought potatoes to Iraq?

All the things you mentioned that the English brought to the rest of the world, didn't originate from England. Things like rule of law and the enlightenment existed in other parts of the world prior to English colonialism.

And colonialism is important to mention, because how the feck did the potato and the "cultural influence" get to the rest of the world?

By promoting capitalism, liberalism, rule of law, enlightenment, industrialisation etc.

These are a few of the most important aspects of the western cultural influence and mainly the anglo saxon culture, especially industrialism.

Today we have wealth in large parts of the world. There are very few really poor countries today. That is because of these values. Before the industrial revolution and the age of enlightenment there was only poverty. Even the rich had no wealth in terms of science, doctors etc.

I am a libertarian and thus have nothing to say in defence of colonialism. Trust me.

Yep, Rooney praised him because he could afford playing awfully and still never getting dropped under LvG.

But generally I got the impression that players who had intelligence on the pitch appreciated LvG (Giggs, Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Müller at Bayern, etc.).
Maybe LvG had trouble explaining his philosophy or whatever it was to modern days’ rather brainless footballers.

Exactly, though it was Spain and Portugal and not the UK who were the main colonial . Without the cultural influence from the west these countries would still be medieval.

The wealth in the world comes from the industrial revolution, driven mainly by anglo saxons.
Do you actually believe this nonsense? These "countries" are no more thanks to European colonialism you genius. Just for the record: "It is estimated that between 1519 and 1565, the population of the indigenous Mexican population dropped from 25 million to 2.5 million" - yeah, native Americans are really ungrateful people for not appreciating the culture and progress the colonists brought them.

India's GDP went from 25-30% of total world production before the British arrived to 2% in 1947. That's a lot of tuition fees for promoting liberalism and industrialisation.

They mercilessly exploited all the resources and made the countries they were exploiting buy the finished good at a markup. The world (for these countries) would have been much better without colonialism.

By trade. We have potatoes where I am from and we have never been invaded by the british, or anybody else for half a millenia.

But the error you make is not that colonialism did not also promote the values I mention. It certainly did. But the fact the colonialism as an action is wrong doesn't mean that the cultural influence that inevitably comes with is bad as well.

And rule of law did originate in Britain. The were of course laws all the way back in Mesopotamia by rule of law as a concept, meaning for instance that everybody in society is equal to the law, did originate from Britain.

Britain sure has done a lot of sh*it. But the cultural heritage is still fundamental for the wealth of the world.

By trade.
Wrong, the British brought potatoes to Iraq. Not suprised you didn't know this. You couldn't even be bothered to look it up, which explains how you're this ignorant.

Yep, I don't even trust the story tbh, saying Ronaldo went to his birthday and drank beer? Ronaldo doesn't even drink does he?

I wouldn't trust Di Maria if he told me the sky was blue. Proper little creepy fecker.

I have never used the word primitive and I have never said that anyone brought them out of it. But there wouldn't be much less wealth.

Many South American countries succumbed to socialism and was robbed of the wealth anyway.

A good example of cultural influence would be the economic reforms under Pinochet. And please do not read this as a defense of Pinochet as a dictator.

And it was so tough for these poor souls to live in the UK for a year. Because Manchester is so ugly....These people are so incredibly stupid. They call Manchester a sh*ithole. What would their own countries be without the anglo-saxon cultural influence? A medieval mess. I am not british.

Shaw's the best one there, and he only proved his worth many years under a different manager (though can't fault LVG for the leg break).

Romero probably second best, unreal backup keeper who we got for free (I think?).

Then it's the likes of Herrera, Blind and Martial. Decent players but nothing outstanding.

The rest, just a bit crap. What a waste.
Martial has been a good player for us. He had a nightmare season last year but putting Romero ahead of him is absurd

I think @Zehner is absolutely right here about LvG. The biggest problem post Sir Alex has been the club itself. It really struggled to prepare for, and deal with, the loss of Sir Alex and David Gill. It appears that they ran literally everything and when it was apparent both were moving on the club should have moved to modernise it's approach in terms of a Director of Football and scouting network. I suspect they were just left to it and no one above actually knew how much they did until it was too late.

A clear philosophy was needed and things should have been put it place to help ensure that whatever coach we picked matched that philosophy and had the infrastructure in place to help them achieve it.

It's bizarre how you go from Sir Alex, to Moyes, to LvG then to Mourinho. It's no wonder the club has taken this long to get some consistency in its approach and strategy given we've had a period of such instability post SAF.

Very poor planning and could have been totally avoided in my opinion. The appointments smell of simply hoping someone could come in an replicate what the best manager of all time had been doing as opposed to meticulous planning and foresight.

The rule of law of today is attributed to John Locke.

You are so emotional and offended. Don't take things so personally. I am very happy to discuss further with you. Please write something substantial rather than just accusing me of being ignorant and I am happy to reply.

My answer about potatoes coming from South America was a silly response to your claim that the british cultural influence is potatoes, Bruce Dickinson and Monthy Python. To write what you wrote there and then call me ignorant about culture and history is, honestly, not good enough.

Ashley Young should’ve sent him to the dark dimension with that shoulder barge. Hope we boot him out of Europe this season.
LVG was no saint but for god sake shut up about us.

Di Maria gets a lot of hate round here for how he left United, but had he been coached by someone who wasn't a total maniac like LVG he might have stayed a while longer and been quite an asset to us in an area solely lacking.

Yeah he's clearly get a bit of a resentment towards United, and that comes across in the #7 shirt comment, but I think a lot of that is driven by the abuse he gets from our fans.
Does he though really inside?. Was it Varane, it was someone anyway who signed fairly recently who said one of the players they talked to about coming to Utd was DiMaria, who told them they should come.
I'm pretty sure i remember reading that, or seeing it a interview at some point.

Another couple of gish gallops to distract from the fact that you said foreigner footballer can't complain about the weather/culture in Manchester/England because their countries would be a "medieval mess" if it weren't for the English.
I am not even talking about Angel Di Maria. I am talking about his wife. She has called Manchester a sh*thole and ugly a number of times. She's also spoken negatively about english people in a way that would never be tolerated in the opposite direction (as this discussion has proven). That's not complaining about the weather. A person who thinks Manchester is a sh*thole is in my opinion utterly stupid.

Yes without capitalism and (relatively) free markets the whole world would be a medieval mess. Europe as well. Please don't be offended by the fact that.

 Not sure if you are serious. People are allowed to have opinions. England is a great country but has it's flaws just like every country in the world. I do not like Di Maria, but if he finds the weather troublesome, so be it.

Lots of player performance threads have huge discussions on racism, politics etc etc. Nothing new.
While true I think mods should be more firm with these sort of stuff maybe put a guide line on political discourse on the football forum

Football for me and I would imagine a lot of other people is a way to relax and forget about the turmoils of the world so if I wanted political idiocy spewed on by both sides I think there are much more apt places that I can go to instead of my favorite clubs forum

And the issue is generally not the players themselves but their families. It's one thing to deal with a subjectively worse context when you have other perks like playing for United but it's a different story when you don't have those perks, you don't have your friends around, you may not be comfortable with the language, you may struggle to find occupations that inspire you. People tend to act like footballers are isolated entities, they have family and friends.

I don't like Di Maria but he's right about LVG. The guy was absolute shit with us. I honestly can't imagine he has fans around here, as few as they are. Funniest method of defending him is saying "he got a plan unlike others". His plans for the club were shit.
