I think
@Zehner is absolutely right here about LvG. The biggest problem post Sir Alex has been the club itself. It really struggled to prepare for, and deal with, the loss of Sir Alex and David Gill. It appears that they ran literally everything and when it was apparent both were moving on the club should have moved to modernise it's approach in terms of a Director of Football and scouting network. I suspect they were just left to it and no one above actually knew how much they did until it was too late.
A clear philosophy was needed and things should have been put it place to help ensure that whatever coach we picked matched that philosophy and had the infrastructure in place to help them achieve it.
It's bizarre how you go from Sir Alex, to Moyes, to LvG then to Mourinho. It's no wonder the club has taken this long to get some consistency in its approach and strategy given we've had a period of such instability post SAF.
Very poor planning and could have been totally avoided in my opinion. The appointments smell of simply hoping someone could come in an replicate what the best manager of all time had been doing as opposed to meticulous planning and foresight.
