Just buy Lukaku, Griezmann and Fabinho and be done with all this. Oh, and put in a cheeky bid for Alexis Sanchez.

Chill guys, we're just pretending we're not buying him so Atletico can spend the money before they have a huge Griezmann tax added onto the fee. Because of their transfer ban, we're now going to have to pretend we haven't already bought him for the next 6 months. No biggie.

Surely that's just United playing hardball after this ban was upheld?

I can't imagine they're stupid enough to not want one of the best players in the World

Mbappe? Morata apparently wants Milan, Lukaku will cost a shitload, i say lets get the fecker out of Monaco
I can't see Morata choosing Milan over United and Mourinho, not to mention the difference in wages. If Mourinho wants him, I think he'll be ours.

I actually thought before this news that we'd end up signing Griezmann as well as a #9. I still do.

It wouldn't be a proper transfer thread without more of a muppet roller coaster. It was going way too smoothly.

It's a bit worrying really. We've lost Zlatan (most likely) so we need a #9 and I get that, but signing someone like Lukaku would be a direct replacement which is good, but if we don't also buy some top class creative players, then we're in the exact same position (attacking wise) that we were in this season. In fact, probably slightly less well-off because we'd miss the presence, experience and passion of Zlatan by comparison. We were hardly setting the world on fire before, so there's no reason to think we'll suddenly be an attacking force with a new, arguably less talented striker.

They want a huge sum as well, i would go for Lukaku and tell him to put a transfer request and offer Everton 70-80m.
I reckon we could offer them even less; with Costa probably staying at Chelsea now, they won't have many other clubs to sell to, and if we offer them Rooney (or if they don't want, Jones or Smalling) into the mix we might just get them down to a pretty reasonable price. I do think Belotti might operate better with Griezmann though...

This has to surely be a fecking joke though right? It's fecking Griezmann, the guy will elevate the whole squad a level. He's genuinely in the top 5 players in World football and willing to join and we are going to turn our noses up at him in favour of fecking Lukaku or Belotti?

I know it's not a negative enough thought for the caf right now, but I imagine with the suspicious timing of this leak this is a negotiating tactic on our behalf.

Athletico are going to be a lot more resistant to us working out a deal that's not a flat fee up front now that the ban has been upheld, Griezmnan has already indicated to them that he wants to leave, and now we're publicly leaking that we want to back off the deal. Leave them to stew for a couple of weeks and then come back with a better structured payment deal.

Sounds like damage control to save face if they really been briefing the press with this.
No. I hate repeating myself, Di Marzio reported the exact same thing a couple of days ago. Our priorities are #1 Morata, #2 Mbappe, #3 Griezmann.

We are not not interested in him, the ban made the deal very unlikely.

It was always going to be the case. It's a good sign though. If he were staying, that contract would have been signed last week.
three journo now all saying we've cooled on griezmann within minutes. It's a club briefing. It's over.

Seems like a briefing after the CAS verdict.

Perhaps it all hinged on the verdict, Griezmann may have had an agreement with Atleti that if the ban was overturned they'd let him leave but he'd stay if they're not able to sign any players.

Get the feeling Morata is wanted as an out and out striker and Greizmann would play in the hole behind. Meaning Rooney is surplus to requirements also.

I don't think Griezman's the kind of guy to play second fiddle in terms of deals, it gets done soon or it won't get done he isn't gonna sit tight all summer hoping a bid comes in.

He will commit to Athletico in the coming days if United's lack of interest is true. We've completely fecked this up.

May be atletico has refused to do the deal after the transfer ban.

It's not exactly turning our noses up. The transfer ban for Atletico means that we are forced to pay the €100m in one lump sum rather than instalments. This changes things and it makes sense that our priorities have changes. It's a smart move from the club. Get the players we need first and foremost, and if there is scope there to purchase Griezmann then I've no doubt we will, even if he doesn't come until January/next summer.
