well taken goal and he linked up well with an attacking fullback in Gary Neville. I think we could see more of his best qualities if the RFB makes a raiding run forward into the box because once he gets a sniff of space his pace leaves people in his dust.

His confidence looks boosted and hopefully he'll carry it forward to the scum.

with the state of our defense i have no problem with him going back.

Meant his passes which are mostly sideways and backwards, his tracking back is a good thing for sure

Teams like what? Shit?

Bolton aren't shit, they could've easily gotten a draw against Liverpool earlier in the season and they're just off the back of a draw against a team that are third in the league.

Can't see much wrong with Valencia's technique, the only real problem I see is his decision-making in the final third, but then the same can be said for pretty much every other winger his age.

Giggs final ball has always been weakish (well the weakest part of his game...not weak by any means anymore)...His overall play was far far superior to Mr. kick ball in front and run....Don't even compare the 2 Nilsson...It's tantamount to blasphemy

He had a pretty good match today. I agree that he's still one dimensional with his dribbling but did score a very good goal and put a lot of useful crosses.
Definitely his best(competitive) match in United shirt so far.

His final ball was better than Giggs's today, but of course you don't here people whinging about his final product.

Can't agree with that, Giggs created chances like Evan's one cleared off the line with his crossing and was a lot more incisive with his passing, and even at that when his final ball's not quite perfect he makes up for it with fantastic approach play, time and again, while Valencia often doesn't.

Good game today!
You can see how he gets more confidence for every game.

Yeah, I agree about the approach play but Valencia seemed to pick out a teammate more often.

This is very much true.

Thought Valencia was great today, needs to brush up on his decision-making a tad, but overall a good performance.. a level above what Nani could produce in terms of his general keeping the ball, tracking back etc

He needs to utilise his left foot alot more when cutting in, once he manages to do this.. he'd be extremely hard to stop.

I just think that people are(and should be) a bit more lenient on players who produce a poor final ball if they've just dribbled past three players, or used nice footwork to get himself out of a tight situation, rather than just knock the ball out of his feet and whip it in.

1 game....1 fecking game!!!....against Bolton.

He was very good today btw...I just think some of you are being very generous. Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov...even Owen, showed levels of class and ingenuity well above Bolton, which is to be expected. The fact we almost fecked it all up at the end shouldn't detract from a marvelous team performance. One Valencia contributed to, but didn't really do it as well as some of the other, better, players. He was very one dimensional...that performance wouldn't have cut in against most top teams IMO. Lets just say he was good and leave it at that

Woah chill Mockers, You can't deny that Valencia demonstrates greater intelligence in the basics of being a winger..i.e. knowing how to retain possession than Nani.

Does that mean I'm saying he's better than Nani ..No, it just merely says alot about Nani's failure to grasp the basics of being a football player. Nani has alot of potential and has the ability to score alot more goals than Valencia but it's his general touches during the game (retaining the ball, holding off full-backs and laying it off to someone in a better position instead of being over-elaborate) that need brushing up on.

Valencia has alot of flaws, more of a machine than a genius.. but the more he can be encouraged to develop new facets to his game..the more devastating he could be. You seem to have him down as a Park MK 2 which is very premature.

For what reason? It has no impact whatsoever on the scoreline.

Plays like a possessed man. I'd guess missing out on the world cup is affecting him somewhat. But the goal may have done him some good. Saw him smile for the first time in the second half.

had a good game and was less predictable as he didnt just run to the outside, trying to outpace the defender

I think he is more dangerous when he has a player overlapping with him, we need a RB as good as Evra and he would look a lot better, and his one footedness would a lot less of a problem. With O'Shea who has been certainly good defensively but he isnt a great long term RB because he lacks that bit of pace and impetus going forward, Rafael isnt the answer at the moment because he is a complete liability at the back, but he would certainly make Valencia look better going forward.

Yeah he could do the job no doubt be interesting to see how he comes back, did very well going forward when he played there in 2007-8

He's put in some cracking crosses from tight spots, I don't see where this criticism is coming from. Rooney's scored 2 headers from Valencia crosses already.

I'm very happy for him and thought he scored a nice goal and played great. If he keeps this level up and eventually shows improvement he can be a very dangerous player for us.

Does he ever smile? Besides his unveiling photo that is.

I think he is a dead rubber player, against the top teams we need more guile which he lacks so far.

Have you just had the compulsion to reply to every thread in the forum?

This isn't the first retarded comment I've read from you in the last minute..

Really? I think he could be very useful for us in the bigger games. He has all the energy and work rate of Park, but combines it with pace, and we've seen he can deliver a good ball in. Like Park, Valencia has also shown he can link up very well with the fullbacks and attackers. Valencia does have a bit more of a cutting edge when it comes to the attacking side of his game. We've seen him get in behind the defence a number of times now... The finishing has often let him down but the signs are encouraging.

Obviously he's not the finished product yet, but I think he could become a very useful player for us yet.

Valencia is someone you play against dead rubber teams.

I believe he lacks either the guile or the confidence to put it on against the big teams in the big games.

Simple enough for you R_Nick?

Valencia is someone we signed over the summer.

I believe he needs some time with the team before we'll see the best from him and judging him now is retarded.

Simple enough for you nem 7?

Or should I use colour?

I'm judging him on what I've seen thus far or is there a threshold I should abide by?

Have you seen Valencia play against the top teams for us to know how useful he'd be though?

Valencia did quite well against us, a big team, last season for Wigan I thought. Didn't seem to lack the guile and the confidence to perform then, he performed well.

I agree with that.

It seems like he's playing within himself at times.

I get the feeling that like Berbatov last year mentally he hasn't come to terms with the expectations of playing for Manchester United. Last year he also was left out the bigger games for that reason.

I actually agree with this *shudder*

I like Valencia, and believe he will get better however he is rather one dimensional and is easily dealt with by top fullbacks. Against the "dead rubber" though, which i'd say is about 70% of the league i think he's really really useful and gives us a great source of natural width which is crucial when it comes to breaking down teams with no intention of attacking.

This is something i do believe will change in time though once he mentally adapts to playing for us and obviously as he improves as a player.

Exactly, he ran O'Shea ragged in that match and caused us plenty of problems.

Maybe he needs that big game to finally stop playing within himself, who knows.

It'd be a bit stupid to say you don't like him in big games before actually seeing how he plays in a big game for us, but that's just my opinion.

I'm sure he will come good as long as his confidence continues to grow.

Despite Nani's inconsistency, I would favor him over Valencia in the big games this season. He tracks back also, and unlike Valencia, he can do the unexpected. Valencia is rather limited in this respect.
