Jesus Christ, he’s still around. Aghbonlahor was still there too last season and earning £55k a week..Micah Richards is there earning £50K a week.
Their wage bill is mental for a championship club.
Tend to agree with this.Travesty, a club that really belongs in the Premier League. Looked to have struck gold with their former owner, challenging for Champions League-spots before City and Chelsea came out of nothing with their funding and grounded everything. Club was sold to a lunatic from China that banked everything on promotion within two years, and now this crap where he probably buggers off.
Does not look like the FA’s fit for ownership-force is great at due diligence, this joker belongs in jail. Would be cool if teams like Villa and Leeds joined the PL again, maybe even Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Blackburn (Venky’s). Teams like Brighton, Huddersfield and Swansea can vanish for all I care.
That's not much for the 'new Duncan Edwards.' Villa have got a bargain.Micah Richards is there earning £50K a week.

You can hardly hold Chelsea and City responsible for Villa’s current position mate, and with regards challenging for the CL spots your timelines are incorrect with regards to Chelsea at least. Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003 and Lerner didn’t buy Villa until 2006.Travesty, a club that really belongs in the Premier League. They actually had paycuts after relegation, think Gabby was on 30k a week which is obviously still a lot. Richards knee is a total mess hence why he never plays and doubt he'd pass a medical at any serious club.Jesus Christ, he’s still around. We've just become a club in last 15-20 years that bottles important matches and moments. See all the annual no shows at Wembley in cup finals like 10 days ago. You're right with your timeline of events. You can hardly hold Chelsea and City responsible for Villa’s current position mate, and with regards challenging for the CL spots your timelines are incorrect with regards to Chelsea at least. Granted, I’ll concede City threw a bit of a curveball into Villa’s plans for CL football when we were taken over in 2008 but we didn’t exactly come from nowhere - Villa finished 6th in 2007-08 and City finished 9th. Not only that, when you look back at Villa’s 3 comsecutive 6th place finishes their best chance of finishing top 4 was the 2008-09 season. Despite the ADUG takeover earlier that season, City spent much of the campaign in the bottom half of the league and eventually finished 10th, offering no threat to them whatsoever. Villa, on the other hand, were comfortably in the CL spots at the back end of February and from memory 6 or 7 points clear of Arsenal but inexplicably went to pieces. After O’Neill sent a scratch squad to Moscow for a European tie, they played Stoke at home and were 2 up and coasting with about 5 minutes to go. Stoke came back to draw 2-2 and from that point on Villa’s season went to pieces. Lerner eventually scaled down his investment but I’m guessing that had as much to do with the global financial crisis as anything else. Even so, after O’Neill resigned in the summer of 2010 - presumably because he didn’t like the direction the club was taking - they still went out and spent £24 million on Darren Bent a few months later.
Was going to happen regardless.Doomed. Won't be surprised if they offload Grealish to raise funds.
Good luck for the future mate. Rubbish situation for fans really. Was going to happen regardless.
Yeah, Lerner gave it a really good go to be fair. Unlike some owners, he did invest a lot of his own money on top of buying the club. I know by the end he wasn’t popular with the Villa fans but I think a lot was down to circumstances beyond his control. We've just become a club in last 15-20 years that bottles important matches and moments. Lerner was affected by credit crunch and also his divorce so he became a more reclusive owner which was the start of our decline. He also saw what Abu Dhabi were spending at Man. City and decided after four years of heavy spending it really wasn't worth it and we'd need to cut back a fair bit.
Had a look at him and he's somehow got 74 Premier League goals for Villa, expected it to be a bit lower than that.Jesus Christ, he’s still around. Aghbonlahor was still there too last season and earning £55k a week..
Problem with the later Lerner years strategy is we went bargain basement far too quickly. In two years we went from a team which had Milner, Downing, Ashley Young and Bent all in it to starting 12-13 with Lowton, Joe Bennett, Ashley Westwood all regulars for us.Yeah, Lerner gave it a really good go to be fair. Unlike some owners, he did invest a lot of his own money on top of buying the club. I know by the end he wasn’t popular with the Villa fans but I think a lot was down to circumstances beyond his control.
I don’t know much about the current set-up but is Xia really as bad as some are making out? I’m reading of Villa running at a £5m-£6m deficit each month and he was funding that so it’s not like he’s deliberately dropped the club in it. He gambled on getting promotion and if Villa succeeded then it would be a completely different story.
Chelsea in two years?Have any clubs ever ceased to exist? They'll keep going. Leeds, Rangers and Wimbledon are all still there despite financial apocalypse.
Possibly some tough years ahead.
People have been saying that for about 16 years.Chelsea in two years?
There's still hope.People have been saying that for about 16 years.
Ok just saw this on skyIn serious shit that’s for sure, losing money hand over fist. Reckon taxman will take them to court. Apparently they haven’t paid the wages in a while either. Administration can’t be far away from gutting the place. Shame, have a soft spot for Villa. Graham Taylor will be turning in his grave. Pretty much why terry was cleared out literally as soon as the season was over for them. I wonder will Bruce stay on
So safe for how long?Sky Sports News understands Aston Villa have reached an agreement with the tax authorities to stave off the immediate threat of administration.
We’ve been told HMRC are content with an arrangement whereby the club pays £1.2m by the end of this week - around half of the money it owes in unpaid tax - after an immediate payment of £500,000 was made earlier today.
As a result, HMRC has shelved its plans to issue legal proceedings against Villa, via a winding up order in the High Court.
FFP was going to Traveller us regardless. It would've hurt Wolves big time aswell but they decided to actually get promoted so like many clubs who sail close to the wind they just go up to the premier league and it's all forgotten (unless you quickly get relegated like QPR did).Yeah, Lerner gave it a really good go to be fair. Unlike some owners, he did invest a lot of his own money on top of buying the club. Gabby averaged 11 premier league goals between 06-10. Was a good young forward in those days who gave likes of Man. United, Chelsea and Arsenal trouble. Last few years have been a waste of time yet we gave him a new 4 year deal in September 2014 when he was losing interest and only scoring 5 goals a year.Yeah, Lerner gave it a really good go to be fair. Unlike some owners, he did invest a lot of his own money on top of buying the club. You guys were in a similar state in 2003. Talk of firesales that summer if that Gronkjaer shot had gone wide of the post. I won't be dramatic and say you'd have gone the way of Leeds but you were massively overspending at that time and needed CL football as much as them.People have been saying that for about 16 years.
That's promising news. But without substantial investment it's going to be an uphill battle.Ok just saw this on sky
So safe for how long?
that's the question fans ask but as a club they need to get rid of the debt and going into administration is the best way to do it - dump the debt and take points hit for start of next season - It's a shabby way to do things but it goes on in other business all the time - as for leeds and rangers they both went bust but skulduggery was afoot to make it like it never happenedOk just saw this on sky

If Gronk's shot had gone wide we'd have still finished above Liverpool on goal difference. This goal is the modern day "Denis Law's goal relegated Man United" fallacy. Like Torres goalbagast Barca, it was fantastic but didnt alter the outcome. You guys were in a similar state in 2003. Talk of firesales that summer if that Gronkjaer shot had gone wide of the post. Probably being based in London would've still got a decent investor I'd imagine if not on Roman's level.
As much as people seem to love see known/reknowned names perpetually in the fold, I think it's nice for there to be a mix, with new faces and forces arising and making a name for themselves. In fact I'd argue it's refreshing to see some new (PL wise) clubs begin to establish themselves as the new leeds, villa etc.Travesty, a club that really belongs in the Premier League.
