Neymar is a brilliant player. I guess he is more Messi like and Bale is more Ronaldo like. The Barca pair are both amazingly gifted, the Madrid pair are amazing athletes.

It is a paradox indeed because the way he has many assists doesn't really translate into him being a good passer.
As pointed out by other posters already, assist numbers by themselves tell you little about how good a player is at passing. Besides, you wouldn't be saying it either way if you'd actually seen most of his "assists"... For example, he got an assist for Pedro's goal yesterday, which basically amounted to the Real Sociedad centre-back clearing a ball against Suárez' back and into the path of Pedro for the bicyle kick. Then there was a mishit shot against Atlético that became an assist for Neymar (not à la Di María, but an actual miscue) and another one against Depor I believe where a cross hit his heel and fell into the path of Messi who dribbled between two defenders and scored. He also got an assist for Messi's 2nd goal against Córdoba recently which again basically amounted to a cross bouncing off him as he was going to ground and into the path of the scorer.
He made a couple of lovely crosses against Almería and Real Madrid, but otherwise most of his assists were down to typical centre-forward play where they're in the right place at the right time to get a touch or lay-off on a ball played in to them (in the same way that Drogba got 10+ league assists in some seasons at Chelsea; hardly a noted passer either).
This is almost a one-side contest.
That's a bizarre comment to be fair. He has the best goal scoring record of any international player at his age.
I just voted for Neymar now before reading, assuming the poll was asking who the better player was. Serves me right.

Funny how this was ever a comparison... Neymar is way ahead of Bale, always had buckets more talent, was just a matter of adapting.
Because Neymar had never played in a top league and for 90 million was a massive let down in his first season.
