What is going on at Barcelona. They only bought Pjanic for €60m a year ago didn't they?

Umtiti was quite highly rated at one point and is still only 27.

Absolutely bizarre. Either of them capable of doing a job?
Trying to free up wage bill to re-sign Messi?

Was literally just posting about it maybe being worth having a look at Pjanic if he's available for free.

Don't know how bad a time he's had in Spain but the prospect of taking Juventus' Pjanic for free would have been mind-blowing a year or two ago.

He's still one 31 but with his style of play surely he's got a few years in him

So this means Barca pay out their contract or do they just terminate it without paying out? Surely the first option as the second one should be illegal. And if its the first option, what's the point? They're not saving money,

Also think the whole fiasco with Messi reflects really badly on the player. And obviously horribly on the club.

If you want more money, fine, feck off to China. Can't imagine demanding more money at your current club knowing it's coming directly out of your team mates pockets, and even forcing team mates out of the club to pay for you.

Umtiti played in the WC (and won it to be fair) instead of getting a knee surgery. He's probably done at the top level.

Pjanic is 31 so if they have to get rid of his wages to keep Messi then i could understand that. Still a big mess at Barca though

Juve didn’t want him and now Barca don’t (Pjanic). I think he is just one of those players who has deteriorated very rapidly as he entered his 30ies.

Umtiti has chronic knee issues. If he was healthy, most clubs would sign him

Both are not good enough. Umtiti's knees and Pjanic has no legs for the PL, which is normal as he started with 16 playing professionally and is now 31.

They’re trying to get Coutinho out the door as well.
Messi wants to buy a new super yacht.

Umtiti has completely finished knees.

Pjanic I have no idea, sounds strange. Must be on a crazy salary?

Yeh, tell messi to get in line with the rest of the squad in regards to pay or do one. No player is bigger than the club. Messi is damaging Barcelona needs to go to PSG for all the oil money he can get.

Has nothing to do with the value of those players. As it is, they can't register Messi cause they have a league enforced wage cap. They need to cut wages by any means necessary but Lord Messi's can't be touched.

But how do you do that against a players will? Contracts are binding, after all.

They aren't terminating the contracts. They are offering those players the chance to go for free. The hope is that the buying club will be more willing to cover their wages since they are getting players of value for free.

Nothing they can do if the player refuses to move. They can only make life uncomfortable for the player.

And if the players don’t want to leave (like Umtiti), then they are forcibly trying to terminate contracts.

It’s an unusual one but they’re not actually trying to terminate their contract (which would be paying them), but telling them they can go to another club with no transfer fee involved. If they don’t leave they will either stay and be frozen out or they’ll be able to negotiate some kind of mutual termination, where they get a pay out but not the full contract. Likely outcome is they’ll both just leave for free to another club willing to take a risk on their wages.

still bending over backwards for Messi. I feel his greed is something that isn't talked about enough, but it's really pathetic how the club has allowed him to take them for a ride over and over again.

They should let Messi go if he's doing more harm than good. Regarding Umtiti and Pjanic, with or without Messi, they should be looking to offload those deadwood

Did Pjanic really play last year ? Umtiti deserve to go. A bit like Jones to us.

Messi's contract or not - it's not like they deserve to stay anyway.

To be fair most would
I honestly hope we wouldn't. And if we did I'd be pretty disgusted if we had to sell off players, ask them to take a paucity just to give to a guy like Messi

Why are people criticising Messi for knowing his value? No one is forcing the Barca board to actually meet his demands and they have made the decision that he is worth it.

Who is going to pay an Umtiti with no knees 230,000 Euros a week??

He will be staying and getting that cash unless Barcelona paying him off

Sources say Pjanic on 180,000 Euros a week, so I could see one of the Italian teams offering him that on a free. Juventus love a freebie

If they really want to free up their wage, they should look at Greizmann’s racism on social media and fire him for that. Problem solved and 40 million Euros a year saved!

Pjanic swap was a poor deal for both parties, and their eye for centerbacks are even worse than ours

His greed is mind blowing. Doesn't seem like a particularly nice chap.

None of this is Messi fault, he might be a prick to have such demands vs club current situation but this is all on Barca, they could easily press restart, tell him to feck off and goodbye.

Theyre poor and can't sell anyone because of the wages so offering players out for free.

The club is a dumpster fire and he's like 'feck you, pay me'

Nothing to criticise there at all.

Pjanic would be worth the risk. Classy player

He's been a bit unlucky at Barcelona as they only bought him to cook the books for FFP
