Real Madrid squad sent home to self isolate. Can't see how theirs or juventus CL ties go ahead.

Just suspend the season.

I don't have an issue with Wolves and us sodding off to Europe for a match

If anyone gets covid-19 it'll increase the chances of the PL being shut down this season. Heck, Everton should get infected on purpose before the derby.

Bring it on

As a massive introvert I'm very jealous of these multimillionaire players being allowed to self quarantine in their multi-million pound complexes for the foreseeable future.

Wouldn't the smartest thing be to Cancel the Euro 2020 competition and just finish the Club competitions in the Summer?

I am not sure how this works unless they shut absolutely everything down. The Real players have been sent home, but schools will be open? Their wives go and pick the kids up from school and bring them back? The wives could still catch it and bring it home.
The way its supposed to work is total isolation. People i know in quarantine have moved into separate houses and are having food deliveries left on the doorstep. Their wives and kids should be in isolation with them.

They may start playing behind closed doors but it is not a matter of if but when they stop playing all together.

Man City played Madrid last week, could be overlaps there as well.
Surely PL can't continue, would be shocked if this weekends matches will continue.
They should have been testing every single PL player already.

Losing to Watford is going to end up costing Liverpool the chance to wrap up the title before it all gets shut down. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

They are afraid of what the results will say.

Worst case scenario football wise will be Liverpool winning the title and then no football for a few years. The image of Henderson lifting the title will be the last footballing image for a few years. Everton don't feck this up.

There's no set date for when this shit will be over.
Eventually numbers will peak and start reducing so better to have that flexibility to at least restart sometime in June/July IF a summer heatwave helps to reduce the outbreak (can only go on what I've read and it's a possibility). Hopefully a vaccine develop aswell some time in the future.

UEFA are nuts for thinking the euros can still go ahead, think that's a problem for the leagues as they're all atm working under possibility they have to get leagues done by late May.

Guess one long term change could be the football season calendar changed. In South American and MLS they go /Feb/March to November so with the 2002 World cup we might see the dates changed for all european seasons as difficult to see how the August/May season will stay if this is very long term.

Dude that's callous.
Don't wish this on anyone.
The clubs should have put their foot down and not traveled.

Surely all teams are getting tested every morning at training ground or the private local hospitals they use for medicals?

Same. If I thought I could reasonably take the hit I'd be at home 24/7

True. Ostrich syndrome.

They can't mathematically win on Monday if City win against Burnley over the weekend.
That being said, I don't see this weekends fixtures happening. I just don't. Enough of our teams have overlapped with other teams that have now been confirmed to have been in contact with the virus.

The outbreak in China is on a very steep decline after pretty harsh measures to limit the outbreak. The same with South Korea.

Denmark closed down all schools and public functions yesterday. Norway are closing schools and kindergartens today, and everyone are adviced to work from home if possible.

Most countries are taking drastic measures to limit the outbreak due to how incredibly easy it transmits from person to person.

There is about 0% chance that the 2020 Euros will happen if we're still seeing an increase in cases in EU by late April. Most likely according to a epidemologist I saw a lecture from yesterday, the most likely scenario is that this will be a very big thing the next 6 months at least.

I think it was the opposite as there were close to 500K deaths? but never seen country lockdowns and the impact on business like this.

It was really mild for the majority of those that had it. Death rate is tiny as well. It's just the so many got it that it's a big number, but I remember there being a huge panic at the time anyway. It's the same strand of virus of Spanish flu. Was in high school at the time though so I really don't remember how widespread it got, or if it was focused a lot more in the eastern part of the world.
500k deaths from 1 billion people though. That's 0.05%. This is at 3.4% or whatever of reported cases, which is very big.
if the same amount of people (1bn) catch Covid, and the mortality rate stays the around same, we're looking at 30m deaths

of course, there is the possibility that a lot more people catch it too
Thanks Guys, It's clear now. Definitely high percentage of death rate and hope they find a quick vaccine to contain this. Really sad to see they way it is bringing down normal life.

Talking about football not being able to recover properly or at least years to recover. Thats definitely a possibility for the lower league at least.

I think of the wage bill having to be carried for the PL teams for a full year with no games being played, if it stretches that long. Surely they will not stop pay? Cause then finally those players will have to dip into their 150k (Spurs under 100k) salaries they receiving weekly.

Why do they suspend for only two match days? Do they really think it’ll all have blown over in two weeks? Football authorities really need to start making some big decisions about this.
Thats the international break then you see. Gives them time to reassess which is what every country should be doing in the interim

It would be irresponsible at this point to not suspend everything like Italy/Spain.
Denmark aswell, is completely shut down for the next two weeks and maybe more. All sports er suspended, any gatherings of more than 100 people are soon to be prohibited by law and the entire public system is are downsized to the bare minimum excluding the hospitals.

Some of the best health care systems in the world cannot handle it at this rate, so of course the same will happen in Great Britain once the virus inevitable spreads there.

Yes, all these measure do is slow it down, not stop it. Spreads from people who don't have symptoms which makes it impossible to stop.

All this response is about making sure health systems can cope with it. It's mild in 95%+ of cases, problem is even if it's severe in 1% or less of cases we have nowhere near enough intensive care beds for it. So need slow the spread down as much as possible.

No one has a clue of the longer term picture.

Football season looks over to me, if not today then in the next few days.

You're correct. The aim is slow slow slow until hopefully a vaccine and better testing is created.

As much as I would love to see that title slip away from Liverpool.
The other implications are depressing as well. Both Arsenal and Spurs will be back in CL again when it eventually restarts and we will still be in EL. :(
Price it takes I guess to make it 31 years.
If us not playing in the CL only for a year mean no title for those scousers then I'd be more than happy tbh, especially this year. Common it's a rip off really
