Tbf Messi has scored hat tricks against Brazil before too. Theres no point discussing differences between them. Nothing one or the other can do would change much at this point. Both are among the very best of all time, people can have their opinions but for everything one does, you can say the other has done that at some point. They're just that good.
One could win the WC

Are you comparing a friendly to a game in the world cup?
An example. Messi has also scored hat tricks in el clasicos. Scored in champions league finals. Was fantastic last world cup despite them losing in the final. Point is that both are up there with pele and Maradona as the best ever. Theres nothing to split them. Stats throughout their careers are neck and neck, success in trophies is neck and neck, with Ronaldo having the edge but Messi having the edge in terms of his pure peak and his best ever year. Theres literally nothing you can point to as saying "that's why Ronaldo/messi" are better then the other, because both have literally done everything. Stop comparing them and just admire both for what they are.

Argentina aren't good brah, they are about the same level as Portugal (remember how they qualified), it's just that Messi will face a weaker team than Spain.
Let's not go into ridiculous territory now.

Portugal's second best player is Moutinho or Bernando Silva. Argentina has Di Maria, Aguero, Higuain and Dybala who are better than anything Portugal has bar Ronaldo.

They're not good, yes. But they're a better unit really.

All of them who are performing at Moutinho and Bernardo Silva's level for Argentina. Let's not get ridiculous indeed and base imaginary performances of them on what they do for their clubs. They have been extremely disappointing, Messi is basically carrying them all

I don't know man. They have no backline and no mifield

Exactly. Argentina are more than decent, without Messi. Portugal without Ronaldo is unthinkable.

Ignore how they play at club level. Portugal play as a team and have a good system and a coach they're all behind. Argentina is useless if it isnt for Messi, everyone around him flops, and they are so disjointed most of the time. Though you could argue that Ronaldo puts the team on his back and inspires everyone and lifts them, while Messi puts Argentina on his back but fails to lift his teammates. But playing for Argentina, theres basically no difference between Aguero and Guedes for Portugal today. Hes trash for them.

Argentina on paper are decent without messi. In practice, Spain hammered them 6-1 recently. They're useless without him. All those big name players... they crumble.

It is not imaginary though, we have seen how good they are. Maybe Messi - as the captain, leader and the best player of the team - should actually share some blame. Maybe he also needs to be blamed for being unable to score once in 5 finals he played for Argies.

Putting the quality of Portugal's team in the same level as Argentina is just agenda, to justify Messi's failures in rapport with Ronaldo.

Sorry, but it doesn't work this way, it has never worked this way. Maybe Messi is making them worse. Because we have seen Aguero in 2 different clubs, Higuain in three, and Di Maria at least in two being really, really good. But when they play with Messi, suddenly they are bad. Hmmm...

Mate, I have no love for Messi nor for Ronaldo so thank you for assuming something you know feck all about
It is imaginary because I don't think you've seen them play recently.

Of course it does because the national team setup and performances have little to do with how they play at club level. You're basically going to make your view on reputation and not actual performances

Best part is this wasn't against some WC minnows in a routine thrashing, it was against one of the best sides in the competition. Would be like Messi scoring a hat-trick against Brazil at the WC.

Great point. To score a great free kick to finish the hat trick is a sure way to make it iconic too. It won't hurt when comes Ballon d'Or voting time.

They are the same players though.

Of course, Messi vetoing new players like Icardi because he doesn't like them and wants to play with his buddies, is another thing that people forget. He is essentially their manager too, and a great job he has been doing on that.

And feck, I have supported Argies in World Cup always until this one.

Yeah but football doesn't work like. Players could be the same but about a million things could intervene to explain/excuse/justify why individual and collective performances aren't good.

Leaving it here because of warning.

I am happy to continue it on Messi vs Ronaldo thread. Oh wait, I am definitely not doing that , there are infinitely better things to do.

I wouldn't even call that discussion a classic "Messi vs Ronaldo" More like Argentina vs Portugal
