Although I would love to have CR7 but I just think we wouldn't be improving as a team with him brought back. I mean CR7 would definitely score us goals and all but from a team perspective, I'm not sure he'd help us achieve our vision and then again the crazy wages. If Messi ends up at City, I would consider going all-in for Grealish, Sancho, and perhaps even Haaland. Those 3 players along with a decent DM would put us on equal footing with City.
What absolutely mad fantasy world do you live in?
We tend to have net spends in the 50-60m max territory.
We won't be getting one of those players in a window without a lot of book balancing .Let alone all three! They're 100m players.

And you just chuck and a cm in too!

There's fantasy ideas and then there's buying Grealish, Sancho, Haaland and a DM all in one window.
Yeah I guess I didn't specify but wasn't expecting us to buy all of them in one window. Haaland's release clause activates in summer of 2022 anyway. With Pogba almost certainly leaving this coming summer, and if we had the opportunity to move Martial on, getting Grealish and Sancho in wouldn't be all that farfetched. I'm not saying that Martial is a bad player but I don't see him getting any better and he's 25 already. It would make good business and footballing sense to move him on.

Yeah feel like he could flourish in a team with less pressure but his fear of competition may well put suitors off

Let me say this. If we had him this season instead of Martial, we are running away with the league.

If RM had him they'd be running away with the La Liga, if BM had him alongside Lewa, they'd be hot favourites for the UCL

If any team had him, he'd improve them 100%

Agree. This bollox of him too old and too much wage is rubbish.

If Zlatan can average a goal a game more or less for AC Milan, I can't see why Ronaldo can't till he's 40. I think he's firmly stated that Man Utd is in the past though. I can only see PSG or MLS in the future.

Too old? Look at the physique on him!!!
Track and field athletes are still competing in their early to mid thirties
Agree. Look on the previous pages, lot of comments saying he’s too old. Would trust 40 y.o Ronaldo rather than Martial tbf.

When we can trust a 30+ Cavani over Martial, tells you everything about Martial

Tbh I'd still take him on a 1 or 2 year contract. Never think he's coming back though.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are albatrosses weighing their clubs down
Jonathan Wilson

"...Juventus fastened the albatross around their own necks. The decision in 2018 to buy a 33-year-old Ronaldo for near enough £100m was bewildering. The rationale was that his goals would carry a side that had twice lost in Champions League finals in the previous five years the extra step to glory. But he presses even less than Messi – 0.4 tackles and interceptions per league game this season – and that runs against modern tactical thought and what Andrea Pirlo appears to be trying to do..."

I don't think the problem was CR7 for Juve. It's the players they've acquired for free and have them join tempting them with huge wages. CR7 is playing behind a midfield of Bentancur, Ramsey, Rabiot, Danilo who are not a world-class midfield. CR7 is 36 and despite he's in terrific shape, I don't expect him to press which is why I don't see CR7 being great acquisition for United. CR7 would do better at PSG.

I really hate how pressing is such an important tactic these days

0.4 presses per game... but scores a goal a game.

he’s mid thirties, he can’t running around pressing.
Indeed. It’s bollocks because he doesn’t press they think he doesn’t fit the tactic. Cristiano and Messi get unfairly criticised for this. They’re mid 30s and have been out worldly for over a decade and are still performing but people want to bring up pressing stats!

Even though he's 36 and in theory is in the last two or three seasons of his career, it still feels like he would cost a huge amount of money. Just not possible in the COVID era unless United could sell two players for big fees, which, well, seems unlikely in the current state of the market.

If he’s passed his legal troubles in the US then he should end his career at Inter Miami. It would be as high profile as Beckham‘s move to the LA galaxy, so fitting that he go play for Beck’s new club.

Juventus go out of the CL to Porto. That €100mil gamble really isnt paying off is it.

Cheeky bid? Wouldn't mind one season of Ronaldo if it means Haaland arriving next year.

Ex-juventus chairman, lambasted the club for signing Ronaldo. Huge mistake. Too expensive for juventus.

If your Juventus what do you do? Stick with Ronaldo for one more season and let him leave on a free? Or try to tempt PSG into signing him this summer (only European club he could go to) or see if Ronaldo wants to go to MLS?

Ps. Any talk of utd coming in for him or should do is just idiotic and unrealistic for many reasons.

Apparently he’s available for around €30 million, is a one year deal worth it on our side at that price ? We certainly wouldn’t have a problem finishing chances with him up top and we’d have someone predatory.
Yes especially if we don’t get Haaland, show me a better option to bury the majority of the chances we miss.

I would definitely give him a rolling contract, swansong at United and then over to MLS

Given his wages and age, I don't think Juve can expect anything other than getting him off the books. Maybe some agent fees of course, but they're hardly getting 30m euros for him.

I think Juve use the press to float all sorts of deals that aren't realistic. Think about all the lesser players they are "willing" to exchange for Pogba. It's a bit like "United are looking to prise away Declan Rice in exchange for Lingard and Jones".

This is surely the last summer that any potential return could happen.

I think he should leave Juve

Maybe I just have the Tom Brady thing in mind, but I feel like it would work and he would have one last big competition to win.

It's not an age thing, these guys never pressed. And yet, Pep's Barça was the best side I've ever seen at pressing, by a huge distance.
That demonstrates you can have a great pressing scheme with only 9 outfield players, while having that special player focus only on what he does best.

Ronaldo has scored 30 goals this season, we've taken off (correct me if wrong) something like £2-3m a week off the wage bill and, if Cavani leaves, that has to be £150-200k a week more off the wage bill.

If Haaland isn't available this summer I think Ronaldo for circa £20m on a 1+1yr contract would make far too much sense to ignore as a short-term option. It would give a certain guarantee of goals and allow us to get other players in without using our entire budget on a ST.

More likely than Mbappe or Haaland. Very unlikely though.

If Messi goes to City I could see Ronaldo being intrigued by the rivalry again. That’s about the only scenario.

If Messi goes to City, he's definitely not coming to United. He'll probably end up in PSG.
