Good riddance. Take Darmian with you and don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Anyways...
Blind is a great footballer and it would be a very smart signing for a team like Roma. I thought he was fantastic at times for us and will be sorry if he leaves. Such a versatile player, he'd thrive in a slower more tactical league like Italy.

He played in midfield all season when he won the POTY.
He played at left back that year. De Boer was the one who moved him into midfield and De Boer wasn’t even at Ajax until the following season.

Both tbf. He won Ajax POTY at left back & Dutch Footballer of the Year in midfield the season after.
My original post:

Nonsense, he played for three seasons at left back for Ajax and won POTY for them playing there. When Van Gaal signed him he noted his versatility. He was never shoehorned anywhere.

I still see him as adequate enough cover for Matic if given the chance, but if he goes hopefully we can get a good fee for him still but the Italian clubs want things for next to nothing.

I mean he's behind Shaw and Young at LB but both of them have injury issues. We're also a Matic/Carrick injury of needing him to play games in Midfield.

Don't think we can afford losing the depth in January

I'd be mad if he left before Darmian, if ever there was a player right now that should be looking at the door it would be him. I'd be fine with Daley being a backup for our defensive positions, his versatility has helped us quite a few times before.

That said, I would understand him wanting more playing time, but it's just a joke that Darmian is still here.

It all depends on if buyers are available.

Would be disappointed to see him go like, he has what it takes to be a very good centre back and I hope he loses the versatile tag and just focuses on playing there wherever he goes. Roma would be a good move, rather see him in a league and team more suited to his strengths than playing dire football for a mid table PL side.

I actually expected that sooner because when Jose came in he said (IIRC in his first press conference) that he wants specialists and Blind is not that. Is he a DM or a LB or a CB ? I still don't know his best position and he is quite average in those three too. You can really see why his game time is so limited. He lacks physicality(strength, height etc.) and pace but has good technical ability, vision with his passing ability. All in all, he is clearly surplus to requirements and a transfer to Roma is the best choice for all parties involved. I hope we get a good fee for him but have my doubts because Italian clubs are so skint and tight-ass in the market. Hopefully, Darmian is the next one we are looking to offload.

Both are available, just blind sold first, as you'd expect.

He's a classy player, I like him. He simply lacks pace and power needed to play at the top level in England. I'm surprised a bigger European team isn't in for him.

Good news for Shaw, Young, TFM and Tuanzebe

I wish we could say "Good Riddance" and get rid of dumb ass supporters with no clue or class like you.

That's rich coming from a bloke who 'hates' the manager of the club and calls him 'an utter prick'.

Regarding dumb ass supporters, 50 % of your posts are Mourinho bashing. The other 50 % are praising everything Blind, Depay, LVG and Koeman do. Maybe you should stop wearing your thick Dutch glasses instead of throwing the toys out of the pram every time someone posts something that doesn't fit your utterly biased narrative.

Would have thought Blind was the second coming of Beckenbauer reading your posts.

I don't mind having him around as a squad option. His versatility is a great strength as a backup.

If he wants to be a regular starter it will have to be at a smaller club. In that case I hope we recoup more than what we paid for him.

I'd be happy to see him go. 15m would be a good price for me.

I like Blind, particularly his attitude and versatility. Nothing wrong with being a 'jack of all trades', but there are better players in each of the positions he is competent in.

He is way off a starting place and for the good of his career and to free up squad places for youth, it's best that he leaves. Roma seems the right of club for him (Title challengers in a strong league)

He played at left back that year. De Boer was the one who moved him into midfield and De Boer wasn’t even at Ajax until the following season.
Blind's trajectory from Ajax to Old Trafford via a World Cup semi-final may look like a simple one for a privileged boy, but it has been far from comfortable.

It all started out well enough for the son of an icon. He was named Ajax's Talent of the Year before Marco van Basten handed him his senior debut at the age of 18, and it seemed things would go smoothly after the coach's glittering report.

''He controls the positioning, he is technically skilled and often stands in the right place,” he said. “He plays with ease. He made his debut, but it looks like he's been playing with us for years.”

He played again days later in the UEFA Cup against Slavia Prague, but his season ended shortly afterwards and soon Blind's future at Ajax looked non-existent.

Their third-placed finish led to Van Basten’s departure, and there was no place for Blind under replacement Martin Jol. The youngster got nowhere near the field until Groningen took him on loan in January 2010. He was a star up north, though, featuring in every game for a side that reached the Europa League playoffs under Ron Jans.

Blind returned to the capital hopeful of getting a chance at his boyhood team, but Jol would not budge, despite the protestations of his assistant manager – Danny Blind. When Groningen came back in for him near the end of 2010, he had a serious decision to make.

“We seriously considered a return to Groningen,” he told Volskrant after his move to Manchester. “I had a great time in Groningen, but it still felt weird to put on another team’s shirt.”

Blind remained determined to break through and his patience was paid off when Jol was replaced by Frank de Boer in December 2010. He was in the starting XI two weeks later in a 2-0 win over Feyenoord and made a further nine appearances in the Eredivisie as they lifted a first league title in seven years.

While De Boer had given him a boost, the fans still wouldn’t accept him as one of theirs and made that known, even booing him during games.

“My relationship with the fans is not optimal, I’ve said that often,” he said. “They hurt me and it still hurts. My relationship with them is just not good.”

It took a long time for Blind to win everyone over. He was in and out of the squad for most of the 2011-12 season as he was appalling defensively, lacked strength and seemed uncomfortable on the ball.

"I am convinced that the fans were fed by some media in those times,” his dad said later. "There was a character assassination committed almost weekly."

The next season again started badly, but Blind became a key man due to Nicolai Boilesen’s injury, playing every minute in Ajax’s third consecutive Eredivisie triumph, as well as a Champions League campaign in which they faced Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and took four points from Manchester City.

At the halfway mark, Ajax were still unsure over his future and let his contract run down to the last six months.

“It also depends on Mitchell Dijks and Boilesen’s situations,” De Boer said, highlighting Blind’s level at the time. “But we are very satisfied with Daley’s development, he is a true Ajax player. We will soon discuss it.

“At the beginning of the season there were doubts, but Daley has picked up everything himself and those doubts are gone.”

He soon obliterated everyone else’s doubts too. By remaining resilient and a hard worker in training, he developed into a star on that left side, and so rapid was his improvement that he went on to become Ajax’s player of the year for 2012-13 and was consistently excellent the following campaign.

He remained at left-back initially but moved into the centre of midfield, where he blossomed into an integral part of De Boer’s system, setting the tempo in every game and proving reliable under pressure.

Blind was again the subject of chants from the supporters, but it was different. Not only was he now a real Ajax man, he was the league’s Player of the Year in 2014.

Been a good professional in his time at United, but realistically he doesn't have anything more to offer.
I mean, just what is his position..?

He is definitely not a LB, isn't physically strong enough or pacey enough to be a CB, not to mention that he doesn't have the height, and as a CM, he falls well short of Pogba, Matic, Mata, Herrera, and those players that we have on our hypothetical shopping list.

Thanks Daley, but time to move on.

EDIT: Could we do a swap for Nainggolan..? ;)

Love this guy. Versatile and never once moaned about playing out of position or even about lack of playing time! Class human being as well as a very intelligent footballer and I wish him all the best. This does a number on our clubs' sex appeal though.

26 years worth of debt!
Was pretty good at the CB position for a run of games under LvG and held his own in quite a few big games.

Tbh, I still think that he is much better than Lindelof, but Lindelof hasn't had any time to acquaint himself with the league.

Would rather see Darmian go first but I can understand Jose's thinking that Darmian is Tony's backup (unfortunately).

Dont think hes really suited to a Jose team, dont think he reacts that well to defending deep and coping with constant pressure.
Think he'll have far more joy in a team that values possession and control more

Good luck to him anyway, was a good player at times.

I knew his time would be up under Mou.

If he had more pace and physicality, he would be a starter for us. He is just not a Mourinho player and not made for the BPL. Italy would suit him much better

I like Daley Blind, but the fact that he's going to Roma tells you how delusional Van Gaal is when he said on Dutch television that Blind should be playing at Barcelona. Given his physical limitations, Roma's about his level.

I've always really liked him and he's never really let us down in any of the positions we've asked him to fill. Can see him doing very well in Italy because while he does lack the athleticism to be a top player in the Premier League, he's technically excellent and a very clever footballer.

We shouldn't be selling him for less than 25mil but I suspect it will be less than 10.

Hopefully we get a decent fee for him - he's a good all rounder but just a level below what we really need.

Same goes for Darmian, good player but not good enough

Quite right - I'd be moving heaven and earth to get out. I'm frankly amazed he plays professionally tbh - his lack of speed and strength is astonishing... Never should have been signed.

Full back has been a weakness for years now, on both sides. A midfielder and a proper right back are essential purchases in the summer.

2nd highest player on the list of players to sell/get rid of for me, no prize as to who is top of the list (get rid of Darmian the championship level player ASAP!!). Blind is a not a good midfielder, a terrible left back, but he is a decent centre back, unfortunately, the only centre back we have who Blind is probably better than is Lindelof (idk about Tuanzebe, haven't seen enough of him), and lindelof has better physical attributes and pace, and unlike Blind he has only been in England for 6 months and is 4 years younger.

Roma are after cover for Kolarov. I'm not sure the deal will actually happen. Expect him to leave in the summer.

Are Roma really willing to pay the type of fee that would tempt United to sell at this stage ? Or offer Blind enough playing time for him to want to move ?

The dutch media suggest Roma want loan with option to buy in the summer.

Do we need to purchase a right back in the summer? We have Fosu-Mensah returning from loan remember?

You're quite frankly amazed that a player who has been named Ajax player of the year and Eredivisie player of the season, who has excelled at a World Cup and been named in the team of the tournament by BBC pundits and who has been signed by, and played for Manchester United, became a professional player?

I understand Blind has his flaws, but he has put in some solid performances for United too.

I think he would be a great signing for Roma, and a bargain in the current market. If the move happens, I wish him all the best.

He's Dutch, and a LvG signing, what do you expect ?
For a manager with such a illustrious background he certainly was clueless in the market. He just bought and bought hoping to hit lucky sooner or later? Blind seems like a nice guy but he really isn't suited for the PL and especially not in a team that is supposed to compete on all fronts. It's not his fault he came here, any player from the dutch league would. Problem was the clueless manager. I wish him good luck and a weaker, slower league like Serie A will probably fit his talents better.
