Good interview with Sam Jewell here. Interesting points are him learning Spanish during lockdown to help with recruiting South American players, and Brighton planning transfers two or three windows in advance - imagine!

He seems to have a broad background with lots of relevant experience for a guy who's still pretty young.

So looks like Ashworth chasing tbe cash
Without knowing the details of Ashworth’s position at Brighton or Newcastle, I would never really expect that kind of role to yield results visible on the pitch before a couple of years.

There seems to be discrepancies in people’s impression of what Ashworth actually has been involved in at those clubs. Who has the better sources here?
So Ashworth chasing the cash again. Never actually finished what he has started. The most over hyped man in English football. Dan Cashworth.

Just to burst your bubble Ashworth was not responsible fir the BHAFC signings. Thats something else.

With tegards to Sam Jewell, he will be a top man for you. Hopefully he will want to stay with us, if not wd just replace him with some one better.

6m for a DoF has to be some sort of record
Why do we need to pay 6m? He isnt a player he is an employee of a company so surely like at any other company if he wants to leave he just has to notify his bosses and serve a notice period and is then free to move on.

Big business is different.

Even a store manager of a Tesco would have to serve gardening leave if leaving for a competitor

there are compensation and break up fees in contracts, so probably the money would technically go to ashworth who pays the compensation.

even if he is on gardening league for whatever period of time, he'd still be the one pulling the strings, just not in official capacity.

Dan Ashworth has informed Newcastle that Man Utd have approached him relating to sporting director role at Old Trafford. Clubs not yet in formal contact but expected soon. #MUFC would need to pay #NUFC significant compensation to for 52yo @TheAthleticFC

David Ornstein.

The whole gardening leave thing is a load of bollocks anyway. How are they going to enforce it unless they tap his phone and keep him under 24hr surveillance? Ashworth like Berrada will start work the minute they sign a contract with us, they’ll be busy making plans and identifying targets like they normally would, it just won’t be in an “official” capacity.

Hope us getting things over the nation state-backed clubs in the league is a precursor to what will happen on the pitch.

Not an expert but if he wants to go, why would you keep him?

I guess the idea is that he is privy to strategic information you don’t want in the hands of your rivals.

In practice, it’s probably impossible to enforce. He’ll be a work from home DoF for as long as the gardening leave is in place.

I did read about his CV. Why else would I talk about it.
All I said is his experience as a technical director is limited. Not his experience in football or other roles.
You said two years in Brighton and 1 at Newcastle. When he had almost 5 at West Brom, 3 in Brighton and 1 at Newcastle.
Which is just about 8 years not the 3 you said.

He wants to come, its a done deal in my opinion. We'll have to pay the Saudis a couple million compensation would be my guess.

Who was responsible for the signings? You sound really bitter about a guy leaving a club you don’t support if he wasn’t at least half decent.

He seems like a man who knows his stuff. He also should have a good knowledge of the English game due to his work for the FA. Brexit and all.

Probably Paul Winstanley, who went to Chelsea. Ashworth operated above him and set the strategy.

If we're already talking about £6m in compensation, I'd imagine this will get closer to £10m to get him 'out the garden' by the summer.
