Couldn't understand why someone didn't get him a cap when he was clearly struggling with the sun. Might have messed up his ponytail but still...

Was savable but not the end of the world, wasn't a Cech-esque howler or anything. Willian hit that ball faster than a bullet.

Quite something when this is probably the most activity his thread has had, and its on the back of whether he made a mistake or not.

The defense let him down but Willian took a saveable shot that I'd back him to stop 99/100 times. When that's as bad as it gets, you know we're spoiled with him.

Think he expected Willian to go far post, and understandably so, that's where most players would aim, took him by surprise where and how hard the shot was hit.
Didn't cost us, think we can spare him a few mistakes like these.

It was a relatively poor game by his standards. Should have done better for Willian's goal, plus he had a couple of spillages, although both happened in the second half when the sun was obscuring his vision so I think that definitely played a part.

Still, nothing to get too worked up over, it was just a rare bad game for him.

You could tell by his reaction how annoyed he was at himself for not saving it. It was an absolute bullet, but yeah, should have at least got something behind it. Nice to know he's human though.

Spot on. Willian is right footed, normally a player like Willian will be more comfortable putting a side foot shot into the far right of De Gea.

Knowing this is the world's best, Willian took the risk with a lace shot on the near post. De Gea wasn't wrong in his positioning, he gave himself an option to dive on the right side.

De Gea was reacting a bit too late and normally his foot will be raised high in this situation for his trademark save. At the end of the day, fair play to Willian, fast decision making and a risk taker.

Minor De Gea's fault, but that's what you don't expect from the world's best. You expect him to deliver another world class save there.

I did chuckle a little yesterday after his slight mistake. It was fitting that the rest of the team, sort of, bailed him out.

What was he doing for their 2nd goal?

Player ran straight to him and he kept rooted at the line and then got beaten at the near post without a effort with a not so powerful a shot.

Bizarre goal all round buthe keeps stuck to his line too much.

Needs to close his closed angle and his distribution was terrible as usual.

However he kept us in the game with that save while we were playing with literally no defense.

Honestly? Probably a lot closer to Arsenal.
Our number one shirt is one of the most prestigious positions in world football over the last 30 years.
If we didn't have David, we would have another world class keeper.
We would certainly not be down near Arsenal ffs. He didn't even have a great game tonight

That's crap. He pulls out a world class save almost every match and has won us a shit load of points. To think otherwise is doing him a massive disservice

Caught off guard with the second goal but then he manages to pull out a world class game saving stop. I love this man!

Looked shaky today and against Chelsea. The Willian goal and van Aanholt one he usually saves. Both in the closed corner. Still pulled off that magnificent save to lay the groundwork for our victory.

That 2-2 save was magnificent but the pundits were right, for him you expect it lol.

Watching in the pub with a mate, he's never rated DDG, still to this day thinks he's too showy, and even after that save he barely begrudgingly gave him some credit.

All the better he is a Palace fan!

Another wonder save tonight, the importance of which will get overlooked due to the spectacular winner.

If we lose De Gea anytime soon we're in deep trouble. I don't see an obvious replacement for him anywhere. He's in a class of his own.

Yeah Carragher was right. For most keepers it's a worldie, for him it's almost routine. Just glad we have him tbh, regardless of the bollox of whether he's better than Schmeichel or VDS.

Lost track of the number of times my heart has sunk expecting the opposition to finish of their move with a goal only to have him pull off incomprehensible moment of magic

Could have done better for the 2nd goal. Just a few steps out narrows that angle a bit. Makes up for it with the save later on though.
My most common critique of DDG is that he never ventures outside of the box when players are coming towards goal. He's always in the right position for those amazing saves though.

When was his last wonder save then? It sees to be 1 every 4/5 games which isn't over the top at all.
Sevilla maybe? And before that? Would it be as far back as Arsenal?

Ridiculous save. I was already resigned to going behind again and was puzzled why Palace weren't celebrating yet. A goal was so inevitable it took me a moment to realise De Gea had actually kept it out. He's not the best at rushing out but there's no one better than him at those miracle saves.

Yep he's very deep all of the time. Defenders often scream for him to come claim or clear and he hesitates. His one and only significant weakness IMO.

He continues to make up for it with the saves, but a bit more confidence coming off his line and he'd be the absolute perfect goalkeeper.

The way he pushes the ball (even when it's practically behind him) into safety is genuinely brilliant and quite unique to him in that it's so consistent.

Most keepers make good saves like that but have little control of where it ends up. De Gea has so much strength in his hands that he can knock the full move on the head.
