If Dave continues like this what is to stop him becoming our greatest ever player?

What he is doing is absolutely unheard of, granted our outfield players have been poor over the last 4/5 years but has a keeper ever won this many individual awards at another club?
Titles.

Chelsea 1:0 Man Utd
One of the best keepers in the world but interested to see what his penalty record has been like since he's been in England. Never really seems to save them.

Mind you plenty like that Cech has awful record since he joined Arsenal and Lloris isn't great on them either.

Stopped: 5.
3 of those were at home in the PL, one away versus CSKA Moscow in the CL and one away versus Everton in the FA Cup. The last one he stopped was on April 26th 2016.

Not stopped: 21.

Essentially 1 in 5 which isn't that bad but not great either.

Here's De Gea single handedly winning us a penalty shoot out against Madrid in a pre-season friendly last summer. So he is hardly Cillesen.

Does anyone remember a recent game where De Gea's poor kicking cost us a goal?

It didn’t cost us a goal but there was a mistake from a kick out recently was there not. He went to kick it kinda miss hit it and it trundled along the ground straight to an opposition player. Might well have been against City to be honest.

Generally I think his kicking is normally pretty good. That pass for the Martial goal against spurs for example. I remember in his earlier days also his kicking was like a laser guided missile he was just picking people out on the wings at will.

In my opinion his weak sides are that:
1. he is too much in love with his goal and never leaves it
2. Poor communication, doesnt help his defenders in some situations. Last game Young was more or less screaming at him to meet him and take the ball when he shielded it, but DDG stayed in goal. Maybe this also transfers to poor organisation around set pieces where the goalie normally has an important role.
3. Could be better in the air, but not poor.

No. Looking for mistake to beat him with?

You're on to me! His kicking just came up in a conversation.

You're right it was City. I also remember that period. His kicking is not a big problem i'd say its par for the course. His only weakness IMO is sometimes not coming off his line aggressively to deal with danger. Its cost us a few times over the years but each time its been a lack of communication.

Good post. Is it just me or do you also think him and Jones have problems communicating? I remember a few instances where Jones put him under pressure by playing a hard back pass or where Jones wanted him to come out. Just seems to happen with those two more but thankfully its only once in a bluemoon

I think the not coming out as much or playing the “sweeper” keeper role is probably in part to how we play. There is very rarely an occasion if any when we need him to sprint out to get to a ball. Our backline sits deep so the space isn’t really there. I don’t watch Spain that often but I would imagine it’s something he is more likely to need to do with them. I mean we have seen him in the past have to sprint out to get to a ball so I think if it was needed he could do it.

I do kind of think tho sometimes when stuff is going on in the box it would be great if he was more aggressive as he will at times retreat to his goal line but when you’re as good a reactionary stopper as he is you maybe just want that little bit of space.

Did hazard's shot hit his leg, then hit the post early in the match?

Everything happened so fast and Hazard is too good.

I definitely agree that DDG and Jones have these difficulties, but I think it also happens with the other defenders. He is not willing to meet up and take the ball and is not always making himself available. On the other hand, if there is a misunderstanding that leads to a chance, he is so good at stopping the shot from close range that nobody scores anyway :)
But there were some posting about the poor defense stats United have from set pieces. Part of this could be poor organisation and communication.

What's annoying about the clueless feck that is Jones and his tackle is that before he dived in he had done a job of getting Hazard into a very tight angle on goal. I honestly believe De Gea would've saved Hazard's shot, had he shot of course.

Don't remember the game exactly, but recently he kicked to the opposition and from the build up they scored.

The fact that his Matip save is making the list at a lowly #5 highlights how good he was this season!

His commitment to fooling the Spanish fans into thinking he's shit is admirable.

Needs Smalling to be playing for guidance ha..seriously though poor mistake in a nothing friendly. Rare mistake from big Dave, better to make it now than at a crucial stage.

Should parry it, he was trying to catch it.

Oh well, if he is going to be dropped for this, the coach would be mental.

:wenger::lol:

How did I completely forget about this, I saw this live.

Happy Karius Day David !

Seriously though, it's a crying shame that the last 5 years which were probably the worst couple of seasons in the last 25 years of our history have coincided with this guy's best period so far where he turned into a complete beast. He should've won much more now and get the praise and recognition he deserves. Hopefully, he will stay for life and be an important part of a title winning team (in PL & CL) in the near future. He deserves that.

He's bang average for Spain. He dropped several clangers at Euro 2016, one against Argentina, and another one yesterday.

Romero is better on the international stage than he is.

Until he actually starts delivering for Spain, he will never be anywhere near Casillas.

He doesn’t get the same level of adulation and trust at international level. Probably why
