Fabianski is bang average, but swap the keepers tonight and we take three points home. Even disregarding the error, it's laughable how much of a non-entity De Gea is in the air. The number of times our defenders find themselves challenging strikers for balls most keepers would pick out of the air is shocking. He can't even control the 6-yard box, never mind the 18-yard box.

That mistake aside, it can happen to any goalkeeper, he is not fit to play a style of play that involves playing out of the back.

His lack of command on set pieces also means that we need to surround him with central defenders that are large physical defenders, rather than ball playing defenders. Lindelöf, Shaw and Martinez does not fit that criteria and fit very bad with a goalkeeper like De Gea.

I think De Gea would work in a team like Atletico Madrid or Juventus, where playing out of the back is less important and where he is shielded for anything but long shots, something he is great at.

We need to buy a goalkeeper that is the opposite - high confidence with feet, commandeered in the goal area and if possible a good shot stopper, but that is less important.

Is it time to play Butland?

Even saying that shows how pathetic this situation has become, because Butland's once promising career has gone nowhere fast. He's not even a PL standard keeper. But can he play worse than this?

He should have been dropped after the Seville games. Too many flaws in his game that he never rectified in the last 10 years. Today was the final straw.

Him ducking down at a deflected shot (which fortunately went wide) sometime near the end left me absolutely fuming. I think he's completely lost his head and as a goalkeeper this is a long way up.

Time to fecking go.

He caused so much anarchy around our box by not being able to catch a ball. He's a fecking coward

You could forgive all his weaknesses when he was a world class shot stopper

But now he’s lost that, he offers little to the team

Like Bale when he lost his pace

Give him a lot to do & his saves overshadow the puss poor box management & things like his footwork but it’s days like today he’s really exposed.

He’s single-handedly lost us this game. Whilst I think our attack could play for hours & not score, we go into games a goal down with the likes of him around.

Jesus christ. Since May 2019 he’s been below the standard of most keepers in the league in all goalkeeping aspects. It’s time to go.

I hope he's costing us deliberately because he isn't getting the contract he wants.

Been resisting for a while but think it's time to look to the future. Not necessarily get rid of Dave completely but defo another keeper to provide legit competition.

That being said doubt he'd be happy with that in which case the door the best option

You wonder what back up goalkeepers must think when they join us. Teflon De Gea.

Let Ole down numerous times. Cost him top 4 in his first season, then cost him a number of cup semis & finals. Got a new contact on the back of it. History is repeating itself 5 years later. When the going gets tough, De Gea gets going.

We’re such a stupidly run football club. No other ‘top’ club would tolerate this. He’s been bad for as many years as he had been good.

That’s the thing, I’d absolutely take a bang average keeper right now. People always defend DDG saying we’ll struggle to sign another world class keeper because there aren’t really any available at the moment - newsflash guys, we don’t have a world class keeper now, far from it in fact, so bang average would actually be an improvement.

We should offer him 50k pw and a squad role in a take it or leave it offer. He would be really hard pressed to get a better offer imo.

I know the focus will be on his big mistake but I swear he gives the ball away in a dangerous position almost every game now.

The lads body language is awful, he's completely shot as a top level footballer.

Other than the school boy error today there were kicking errors, a dropped cross at the back post, the clear wimp like fall when touched from Antonio.

The biggest one for me was Rice had a effort at the near post, watch the video he actually pulled his head and body down as if he was scared of the ball.

I'd rather go with Butland at this stage.

How many major Karuis style errors has this lad made now, must be at least 20 to 30. How is he even still in our goal!

Hes a clown. It's not only about the amateur mistakes he keeps making but his pussy attitude as well. He has no balls he's scared to get physical. Weak ass clown can't wait to get rid of him.

If he's offered a new contract I'll get a gastric ulcer.

No player is solely responsible for our shiteness, but he’s a lot more responsible than most. He could and should feck off.

He's turned down an offer already, I bet that offer was more than he'd get from any other club in world football.

Bet he's crying tonight that he didn't take it as 50k might be the size of his next contract.

He's a lost boy, I can't imagine him wanting to stay any longer here.

He's long past it but it's more shocking how many people didn't see a problem with him.

I don't know if it's ten Hag forcing him to play out from the back or if he's just stupid and he doesn't realize he's absolute shit at it.

Anyway he's a liability, it happened twice today.

I mentioned when he made those mistakes against Sevilla, that he'll completely collapse under pressure towards the end of the season. Seems like its happening and unfortunately it wasn't really difficult to predict. He should've been one of the priorities to replace when ETH joined and should be again this summer. But given our finances and the ownership limbo, I won't be surprised if he's still our GK next season.

Can blame him for the loss but at the end of the day it wouldn’t have mattered if we played for 500 minutes we still wouldn’t score. Shocking error mind and just about sums everything up just now.
We could've nicked a goal if we didn't go a goal down and brought West Ham and their fans into the game .

All those people saying he's served us well etc etc, the flipside is he has been properly remunerated for his time at the club. I won't be sad to see the back of him. I'm not even certain the club won't renew his contract to be honest.

The amount for anger I felt toward him is not healthy. It's not the first time either. The entire dynamic of the game changed with his error. He gifted West Ham all the incentive they needed to keep defending for their lives and they even threw bodies forward knowing even if they conceded, they'd still get a draw.

It's not just the error either. They kept floating balls into the box and he didn't come to collect. The time he did he didn't even jump with his hands up. Those are basics. I previously said that due to our budget getting a GK will be low on the priority list, but at this point I want to see anyone but him start. No amount of good saves can mask giving away wins with such inconceivable stupidity. Please no more.

Either he has to go or we bring in another keeper and make De Gea No. 2.

Either way we need a new goaly.

Shades of the end to the 18/19 season with him being chief among the culprits for that disaster in the top 4 race.

For me it was the start of the 2nd half where he just passed it straight to Antonio I think nearly leading to another goal, and then later on when he drops the ball at the back post leading to another chance. So many simple things he fecks up and puts us under unnecessary pressure

You’d think he’d have just had a talking to at HT, then what does he do for his first back pass after HT?…nearly fecks us again. He breeds nervousness through the team.

Unfortunately this was like De Gea in his first few games in the debut season. Very poor today, terrible passing, poor attempt to save the goal and generally didn't have any command of his area.

Do you guys still think keeper isn’t top 3 priority. It was in my top 3 and now my top 1 priority.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus would not take De Gea. Not a chance. Oblak and Chesney are so much better with aerial duels and commanding.

Great servant that he has been, he has to go. He just crumbles in every pressure game. It’s like playing with one hand tied behind your back as you just can’t rely on him to do the basics any more.
Its annoying to see this word used. Was he not paid all these years he's worked at the club?

Raya would be great if united managed to sign him.
