Wake me up when we're preparing a bid. Would definitely take him though.

Would be nice to see an Irish player back at Utd. It’s been too long

Let's hope not.

He's a very good player. But a midfield of him and Casemiro would be so lacking in top end technicality that it would severely stunt any potential the team has.

I've never been his biggest fan. Whenever I watch him, he seems a bit gangly and awkward on the ball. Reckon he could get exposed at a bigger club similar to how Magure did. If we're going to spend big on a DM, I'd rather we went for Caicedo.

"United are looking at a summer budget of £100m"

*spends 80m on an overrated player that doesn't solve our main issues*

Silly. This is the sort of thing United should be feeding to reporters BEFORE we face that player's club.

English media gassing up their English players, all while United have this budget and spend threshold that has be around 150M net the past few season, give or take.

Unless Casemiro is sold for 60M or something, Rice won't be signed by United and thank feck.

Really good player. Would think he's great for us but no idea how we afford him

Would be perfect if we could send Maguire the other way

They value hi at 120mil or something insane, his value is around 80 and we won't be blowing that on him. Since we're supposed to be in for Kane too, that would put our transfer budget for two positions at over 200mil, which i'd have to see to believe. That's discounting that we want a GK, CB and potentially another RB.

I really hope ETH can see our need for playmakers and midfielders who can dictate the play.

Would have him over Casemiro last summer, now he would be pointless.

Given the point ETH made last summer about the cost of English players, I'm extremely sceptical about us being linked to both Rice and Kane at the same time, two of the most expensive English players you could buy. Especially when, whatever about Kane, Rice doesn't fit our needs at all.

Also worth bearing in mind just how few of last summer's signings we had actually been heavily linked to well in advance. Initial reports were about Timber rather than Martinez, Casemiro came out of nowhere, Malacia was hardly flagged well in advance either, etc.

In all likelihood this is just noise.

If he's totally open to cover any position that Ten Hag wants him at, I think he actually makes sense. Backup to Casemiro and Varane and a defensive option at #8. Move on from Fred, Mctominay and Maguire and sign a top striker, young creative midfielder, a prospect at CB and keeper to compete with De Gea.

Striker-Rashford-Martial
Rashford-Garnacho-Sancho
Antony-Amad-Sancho

Bruno-Eriksen-#8
Eriksen-Rice-#8
Casemiro-Rice

Shaw-Malacia-Alvaro
Lisandro-Shaw-Lindelof
Varane-Rice-Lindelof-CB
Dalot-Wan-Bissaka

Keeper/De Gea

Cover everywhere, bet on youth at CB and a creative mid which should be cheaper and make the group younger.

Ten Hag wants defenders and deep midfielders who can pass and interchange, so I think it could work.

This is about the 3rd time in the last 2 years the media have announced this is our guy and we are going all in. I'll give this round about as much credibility as the last two.

I'd only be happy with this if it means we take their manager from them as well. Second coming and all that.

I would agree, but we need a #8, backup #6 and assuming Maguire leaves, an RCB, and Rice can arguably be all 3 (though we'd want to add a passing #8).

He’s a really good player. I think he’d be excellent alongside Casemiro, really, really solid, and anyone that looks at his progressive passing stats for the last two seasons will know that he is very good at getting the ball forward. He would be a very good number 8 for us. That said, my preference would be to play a different way, and get in an 8 that has a greater weighting towards playmaking and ball retention than Rice does. A player in the Modric role. Nicolo Barrella springs to mind.

But what Rice gives us is essentially two players in one. He can play very well as that 8, lending more defensive solidity but being a true box to box to link the DM and AM, but he is also a true 6 replacement too. And when Casemiro is unavailable, we still have a viable midfield. If we sign a playmaking 8, we still need an understudy for Casemiro. Combine the costs for those two and it may come to around the same or more than one Rice. So I see the logic in this.

Whatever happens, the budget is going to have to be supplemented by outgoings.

I feel the same, I felt about Maguire in 2018. He is a good footballer but it's not the right profile and he isn't worth that much money to us, it's like that Leeds guy that the caf loved until last summer. We need high level technicians, guys that are comfortable in the middle of the pitch when under pressure.

I don't think his ability with the ball is good enough for what we need.
