Our players, especially our rightbacks are often not appreciated for how well they defend. And Dalot even more-so because its clear that AWB has some aspects where he's one of the best defensively. But make no mistake Dalot is on average a hardworking, ball winning fullback and he does have some quality to cross like he did for McTom's winner, or score like he did previous in the season and for Portugal from outside the box.
But there are weaknesses and drawbacks - even today although he played very well and was probably our 2nd best player just behind Onana, he still had a clearence straight to Luiz who missed the chance firing at Onana for example. His concentration isnt very good and he can often frustrate you with poor technique and accuracy or his decision when going forward with his crosses, passes and shots.
If he puts it all together in one performance he's a top fullback. But he usually doesnt do that. You get parts of what he can do.
For United he is usually a hard working, ball winning defender with some frustrating end product. He has the ability to be more than that but thats what we usually get. And of that type of player, as a ball winning defender running up and down the pitch but just okay going forward he's very good and has played well this season.
A lot of posters want a fullback with consistent quality attacking play and he doesn't have that. And while he has the ability to do it sometimes, im not sure it'll ever be consistent. It goes the other way as well - the players they suggest are playing in a different system with 3 CBs that we dont play and they only need to track back as much as a winger does for us and they dont defend as well as Dalot.
As a defensive fullback he's very good and the area that he's better than AWB is in the air. Today he defended well overall, despite the mistake and came up with a good cross for the winner.
