This match basically means OGS and the senior squad haven’t got any excuses for the weekend. They can’t play the midweek travel card should we not win.
I'm pretty sure the fans knew well ahead that the kids would be played, they had access to the traveling team info. And I think most sane fans would prefer we not bring the first teamers around half the world to fecking siberia and risk getting injured. You don't see the irony in fans traveling that far but the team not ?
My expectation wasn't a full senior team. But I really felt the likes of Rojo, Matic Young and Mata could use more minutes. Would have been a great game to try Jones at DM..
Of course you did. You think the travelling fans wanted that? You don't see the irony in fans traveling that far but the team not ?

Rochdale was different though as they are a local side to United and would have played their best game regardless of the team we put out.If anything, he should have done that against Rochedale. One of our key players may have been available these last two months.
They do, at least the key players like Rashford, James and few others with few playing every game, few coming back from injury and then playing every game. This was a pointless game to risk them considering the travelling time and thin squad. They look tired? All of them but four just had a 2 week break from playing.
It's not a dead rubber. We're going to lose at home to AZ and finish second in the group and go out in the next round.Villa, Spurs and City between Sunday and Saturday, we already have big injury problems but there are people that want the first team to go to Astana for a dead rubber on a Thursday night. Clueless.
That's not the point, I don't care how well Rochdale would have played, I just think that like SAF used to do the League Cup is one of the competitions where we could and should use heavily youth and bench players.Rochdale was different though as they are a local side to United and would have played their best game regardless of the team we put out.
If we're not good enough to win the next round we wouldn't be lasting very long anyway. Also we might only need a draw AZ are 0-2 down at the moment. It's not a dead rubber. We're going to lose at home to AZ and finish second in the group and go out in the next round.
But also, didn't want the full first team there. Just a few more of the ones that need minutes to be sharper for when they do get their cameos in the coming games.
We definitely should have played several of our first teamers on a frozen astro turf in asia when we got 10 games in 30 days coming up. Ole out.Yeah, OP is spot on.
I have been forgiving so far, but this is it.
Feck Ole and everything he stands for.
Don't get me wrong, it was nice to see some these young players out there. And as much as I'm frustrated with Lingard I was really happy to see him get on the scoresheet. He needs to hit some sort of form. But the crucial moment when I started rethinking it was when Bernard scored the own goal that was Astana's winning goal. We talk a lot about man management and how to build confidence in players. I'm looking back at that and thinking as a kid on your debut to have that mistake cost the game at the opponents ground and then travel back for what is it, 17 hours on a plane. Is that right? Is that how we develop our youth at United? You have that match at home and the stadium claps the team off, lifts their spirits because they know, they're kids. Astana doesn't give a flying fig if it's 19 or 29 year olds. They're a team from Khazakstan that just beat the fabled Manchester United. One of the few bright spots of this season is seeing all those young players playing for the first team. I'd rather Ole persists with playing Levitt and Garner in midfield than the likes of Matic, Fred and Pereira to name the few. The only thing that bother me is giving Lingard the captain's armband, I think that was a new low.
Umm,no.Said it was a crazy lineup before the match and bit my tongue criticising the fetishism of youth. Not an important match really but too many posters here are marching to Ole's drum featuring The United Way and other such bollocks. Does annoy me I'm sorry to say because it's all excuses.
You don't know how hard it was for me to hold back all the insults I had. We have a league game on Sunday another one against City during mid week. It was a great decision by Ole no matter what you think of it. The young lads also are happy to have gotten their debuts even if it didn't bring victory. Some will probably never even play European football again in their football careersWhat on Earth was Ole thinking? We haven't sealed top spot in the group. We have a miserable record as a whole and duly in need of thrashing a side to get some confidence. We have senior players that are still with us direly needing minutes and freshness. Heck, we need just a solid all around competent performance for 90 minutes. And he decides to leave the team at home and play the academy side.
I really tried to focus on the positive around fielding all those academy boys and indeed a few of them played quite well. But the fact is that traveling team, that lineup were incredibly disrespectful of Manchester United, the traveling fans, the Europa League and Astana.
So mission accomplished:
Ole gets his name in the books - most academy debuts in a European game in a single outing. And great excuse for losing another game. Woo hoo.
I can't credit any of the good play today to anyone but Butt. The senior players showed themselves to be more poorly coached. And the manager must think running this club is like some video game where you can skip and Sim games moving on to the important ones you actually want to play.
Yeah, he even said Pogba will play only 20-30 mins but ended up starting the game and played full game. It was very poor decision and injury management by Ole.If anything, he should have done that against Rochedale. One of our key players may have been available these last two months.
OP is the hero we need but dont deserveYeah, OP is spot on.

Probably the year and one to be kept for the archivesThread of the week?

It's interesting to see the number of insults being hurled at me for having a starkly contrasting opinion. I'm not going to pretend like this was a litmus test of the cafe. But it certainly shows this huge intolerance that's developed on here for anyone criticizing a decision by Ole. I don't recall Fergie getting this kind of blind support on here in sack Fergie sell giggs yearsYou don't know how hard it was for me to hold back all the insults I had.
