The last few years has been going terrible for Trump and great for Desantis.

I do feel he will beat Biden as well unless economy takes a turn by then

If Trump doesn't win the nomination but isn't in jail, he could just as easily run as an independent because he thinks continuing to be a Presidential candidate will somehow shield him from continued prosecution. That would obviously be the end of Desantis and would mean an easy Biden victory.

I’m almost at the point where I’m wondering whether it would be better for the Democrats for Trump to somehow avoid a criminal conviction, and to win the GOP nomination, as I feel like Biden has the beating of him.
But I remember having a similar train of thought in the run up to the 2016 election, and look where that got us.

Both Federal cases - didn't know there were 2 Fed cases - the special counsel/Mar-a-Lago documents case is one, which is the other?

Possible... but too many of the stars have to align for that. Would be one heck of a scenario to have a three party race for once in 30 years

2016 was just unprecedented. All the stars aligned for Trump and a lot of people looked at him as a real beacon of home. Now It's "at least he's not Trump" Biden for the same people

Paying hush money isn't illegal, but how it was paid and then covered up is what's being investigated, mind you Trump says that he didn't shag her so why was there a payment?

Clever PR; his people briefing he wants a perp walk. Rope-a-dope on a new level. It’s all theatre for him. Consequently what’s needed is to make him look small and sleazy. Lots of commentary that this is the wrong case to come first. But the Georgia one looks ominous.

Unfortunately in GA, a regular grand jury now needs to be impaneled in order to get criminal indictments. Don't think this had been done yet which is odd considering DA Willis even stated that indictments were 'imminent' when the special purpose grand jury concluded its work & submitted its report.

Yeah look, I agree with you. 2016 was likely a perfect storm of factors. I think I’m just very aware of how wrong I was at the time, and it makes me wonder what, if anything, I’m missing this time.

Paying her from campaign finance funds is illegal. Then writing off the payment as a legit business expense is illegal.
Then put the payment in context. Trump was running for POTUS, he didn’t want it revealed that he’s such a slimeball he was bonking a porn actress weeks after his wife gave birth.Aren’t voters entitled to know as much as possible about a candidate for such an important and powerful office? Trump claimed he was the president of law and order, and a good Christian .The facts show he was anything but.

The payment wasn't from campaign finances, he used his own money, but how it was done breached campaign finance laws as well as the business expenses ones, allegedly as it's not "proven" yet, hence the possible indictment - we all know he did it

But actually paying to keep something quiet isn't illegal in it's self
