It looks like a red pen leaked.

I don't think that's necessarily it. I can fully get my head around why populists have gained popularity. What I don't get - and clearly many with me - is why Trump in this country. Most other populist characters out there don't even have an ounce of the amount of dirt there is on this guy. Someone who isn't a decent human being by hundreds of stretches of the imagination.
At the risk of derailing this thread, why is it that populists have gained popularity specifically?Well I suppose Trump is very particular to America. His equivalent in a European country would be of a different style or nature (i.e. more educated and perhaps more dangerous).
But in respect of the reasons for why Trump and other ‘populist’ figures have come to prominence, one of the main ones is that culture and values have changed. And over time politics itself, just like everything else, will reflect that change. It’s this factor that a lot of people seem to struggle with the most.
Unchecked capitalism is running wild, which increases the gap between rich and poor. Many people are not seeing an increase in their standard of living compared to their parents and grandparents. Populists provide people with convenient scapegoats that appeal to their worst nature and doesn't require much critical thought (it's the immigrants, it's the woke ideology, it's the liberal Hollywood elite, etc. etc.). This is amplified by social media echo chambers, which allow people to easily have their bad ideas validated, while it is simultaneously being deliberately used by bad actors to further divide people and spread hate.At the risk of derailing this thread, why is it that populists have gained popularity specifically?
I watched an interview with the philosopher John Grey on Novara Media the other day and he described populism as the political blowback against the social disruption that decades of liberalism/liberal policies have produced. I’d largely agree with that.At the risk of derailing this thread, why is it that populists have gained popularity specifically?

There are completely opposite answers in my head.I watched an interview with the philosopher John Grey on Novara Media the other day and he described populism as the political blowback against the social disruption that decades of liberalism/liberal policies have produced. How so? Free markets and economic freedom of the individual are huge parts of liberalism as an ideology. There are completely opposite answers in my head.
Yep, embarrassing. Can't wait til this gains more traction (it's been percolating for a few weeks, but the lid is starting to slide completely off).
Still deliberating in the civil trial against Trump Org., but the amount in penalties should be set soon.So how are his trials going?
The E. Jean Carroll trial sounds comically bad for Trump. He seems to have extremely poor (yet attractive) representation. So how are his trials going?
I almost forgot about that stupid creature. Hopefully, Jack Smith will get her ass dismissed on accusations of conflict of interest.Judge Cannon will make sure the document case is still in process when Trump dies.

That's because liberalism involves both cultural and economic change. People have this strong tendency to focus solely on the economic changes and neglect the cultural ones...which I'm guessing explains your reply. There are completely opposite answers in my head.

I wish someone in the current administration has access to his medical records. I just do not believe that they can keep the syphilis part hidden since policies and people's lives are at stakes here. The syphilis is turning him into Bluto

Isn't Steve Bannon being charged with the same thing?Tweet

He tells it like it is!He's such a bad politician, but paradoxically, that forms a large part of his appeal.
Lock him up!Tweet

Or Jim Jones....If Trump did a Charles Manson and ran a commune compound, he'll definitely run a successful cult.

Same sentence length.Isn't Steve Bannon being charged with the same thing?
Leave her alone, she's trying her bestI don't think it has been mentioned in this thread, but Alina Habba is caught lying about being exposed to COVID by her parents... since her ass was at a campaign event, with photos as supporting evidence.
I have seen my share of dumb cnuts in all slices of life before, but I have rarely seen one being dumber than her by any stretch of the imagination.
