Ed Woodward 2019 - Until all Arctic ice melts edition

Not protecting Woodward at all, just seems like something he’d do. 70m net spend is ridiculous considering the amount of holes in our team

Fair enough. It is something he would do yes, but from his history it is something he will say and then not get Sancho next year.

Been a disappointing transfer window again.

I get the feeling that money is being held back for a Sancho move next summer. Would be a huge gamble, with CL far from guaranteed. Defence has been fixed, midfield and attacking options weakened so it feels like no progress has been made.

Why is Sancho going to want to come here, honestly? If you were him you can go to about 5-6 better teams.

The defence also includes fullbacks.

Yeah, Both arsenal and Tottenham taking leftbacks as back ups while we have young as a back up for Shaw if he gets injured.

From every way you look at it Woodward is terrible. He has managed make a Joke out of us world wide.

Defence hasn't been fixed, we've just bought ourselves a delay with 2 good acquisitions. Having so many average defenders on the team is still a source of major concern. One injury and there is no one reliable.

And yes, this is a good point. I still have question marks over Shaw and Lindelof (not to mention the need for the two new ones to settle), but one or two injuries (especially to Maguire) and we're back relying on players miles off the standard. Depth means nothing if your depth is shit.

I dream of the entirety of Old Trafford standing up and chanting "feck off Woodward" in unison.

If Sancho hag good season which I think he will and does good at the Euros which he could do then his price is going to be astronomical and I dooubt we would pay it, even if we attain Champions League and if he were to want to come here.

Truly awful job Ed has done. The Top 3 are so far ahead of us it is a joke. Honestly after the hammering we got at the end of last season, against teams like Everton who have done better business than us, I can't see us challenging for Top 4 even. I worry for Ole

People judging the transfer activity by the net spend... really? Our net spend with Jose was 302 million and what did that get us?

Overall, our transfer business has been okay this summer. Ole wants to include the youngsters so we cannot simply keep on bringing more players when we have a crop of players that need shipping out and the youngsters awaiting their chance. This is a build-up process and it will take time.

We had an issue with RB, we got a brilliant 21-year-old talent.
We had an issue with CB, we got one of the best english defenders currently.
We needed more pace on the wings, we got James who looks a raw but interesting prospect.

We had to offload our most expensive and yet most useless striker, we also did that AND at a very good price.
Replacing him this window would be the ideal option but we also have a crop of young forwards (Rashford, Martial, Greenwood) and we also have Sanchez, who on his day can still contribute more than Lukaku. Let's trust Ole's vision in mixing youth and experience this season, we will never find out how good our youngsters are unless we give them a proper chance.

Last year we did a nice run with the same squad that we are dissing today and had top 4 within our reach till WE bottled it, this season we have a better preparation with Ole and the team, we got youngsters getting more game time. It is just too early to judge our transfer window.

I like your optimism. Honestly just one more signing to bolster our creativity and I'd share it, but right now i'm at about 70/80%.

All the teams that were better than us got better.

Fans need to stay away at the home games. Only way we are going to get rid of this virus.

Its never going to happen though because the global fanbase assures a significant portion of the home crowd is made up of a different set of punters for every game from around the world who aren't going to give up their chance to see United that week. The only way to achieve this would be some sort of picket line outside OT but even that wouldn't work.

All the teams that were better than us got better.

Well those teams have been building their teams with pretty much the SAME managers for at least 2-3 seasons now.
Also, can you specify which teams exactly got better? Liverpool's activity has been quiet, Chelsea lost their biggest player for the past few years, Tottenham are leaving it late to get their targets, City are tweaking here and there but with no marquee signings. This is mainly because those teams already found the core of their teams, we are hoping to do that this season.

This is Ole's first OFFICIAL transfer window at Manchester United so let us back him up to do well this year instead of being all gloomy and negative despite not playing one official game yet in the league.

Phew. The fans have got a hashtag trending on twitter. That should sort us out. I was worried there for a moment.

Yeah, already see woodward and glazers infront of laptop nervously commenting look another nobody has retweed, we're fecking doomed.

Rodri?

Also Chelsea have a transfer ban, but still have somewhat tried to replace Hazard (as much as you can replace Hazard) with Pulisic, and you know they'd be doing much more if it weren't for the ban.

Spurs have already signed Ndombele, and will probably buy at least two more today (Sessengon and Le Celso?)

Liverpool haven't done much, but they're a million miles ahead of us, and Arsenal have improved greatly, and their manager has only been in for about 5 more months then Ole has been here.

City got better in defense. Liverpool didn't spend but are already 30 lts better. Arsenal got players in. Tottenham are in position to get more firepower. I'll concede Chelsea. Wolves got players in. We needes a sure thing to help Pogba to be able to create chances. Having a dead right side with Mata and Jesse is going to handicap us again.

What should be considered as Well? 4th 5th 6th?

I hate the man.

He's destroying this club and has allowed rivals with much less resources catch up and overtake us. A couple more years of this cnut handling our transfers and the likes of Wolves and Leicester will be finishing above us.

Sancho will not come here, mark my words. We are in mass decline, he has the world at his feet, going in different directions.

I’m happy with the business that has been done, what I am unhappy about is how we have conducted ourselves during this window and the false hopes that are given.

When Ed saying he was staying behind to conduct transfer business I was really hopeful.

Beyond the Maguire transfer - what else have we actually done? We’ve been linked to lots of different players by the media, but until last weekend when the Dybala story broke who else have we REALLY been negotiating for?
The Dybala story came to us as well - we were not actively going for him.

Rumours of Longstaff have been just that - maybe tentative enquiries but nothing concrete. Erickson again was a very late and I’m sure unplanned discussion - but again - just in the last few days?

We have an enormous scouting network and plenty of people working in the commercial departments for Ed (I’m talking about the mysterious negotiator - Judge) - I’m just staggered as to what they have actually been doing since we went to Perth?

We knew that Lukaku was definitely going - yet we haven’t made any preparations for this? We are scratching around at the last minute looking for scraps....again the whole strategy appears to be void.

I know everyone says Ed is a great commercial deal maker - and that is true - however - one big difference with dealing with a company like Kholer who want their name on our shirt - They WANT the deal therefore you can demand what you need/costs etc - whereas when dealing with another clubs DoF when they don’t want to sell US their asset - it’s a very different type of negotiation - this type Ed and his team are so completely out of their depth and approach it all completely wrong.

I’d really like to know Just what they’ve been doing the last 6 weeks?

Guys you are failing to see the point, if you think one transfer window for us is enough to compete on all fronts you are mistaken.
The same team we had that finished 6th was 4th at some stage and destined for a CL spot till we bottled it and just gave up on the rest of the season, so it's not about just who we get but how well they adapt to the way and strategy Ole wants to put in.

We got reinforcements in, let us see how they do. Arsenal getting a shitload of players does not mean they will do well, the test will be this season. Chelsea, Hazard replaced by Pulisic still feels like a downgrade. Liverpool and City are pretty much like-for-like and that was evident in the numerous occasions they faced each other during last year and this year (community shield), so this should be our ceiling come next year. Tottenham, well they have a good team but no winning mentality, they had Kane and a full squad for the CL final and look how shambolic their performance was on the biggest stage.

My point is just to wait and see how we will lineup this season with the new signings AND the youngsters together.

We have a very weak fan group that is the problem that go to the games. There is alot of the United fans who are frustrated and angry. But there is alot of fans that have no clue what goes on behind the scenes and think it will be alright, without understanding the issues that we are facing. 50% of fans at OT would probably want a selfie with Ed Woodward.

I wouldn't mind a selfie with Ed, with my hands wrapped around his throat.

Gotta hand it to Woodward. Honestly, i'm impressed with him.
He is a very good soldier for Glazers and is executing their instructions (minimum spend) perfectly, while also keeping up appearances.

Dropping here and there that we are in for player X and Y and eventually not delivering but atleast he gave the impression he tried really hard.

Sadly enough for us, it means our club will continue to decline as long as the Glazers are in charge.
He is just their muppet and the only thing he can do is following the orders or get fired.

Woodward is just a symptom, the Glazers are the disease

How much is this season’s failure to qualify for the Champions League going to cost us from the Adidas deal?

Maybe Woodward has spent so much less than the £100m reported budget from the owners in order to compensate for that loss of revenue next season?

I don't get it really. I am Turkish and I understand there is a huuuge gap between our fan cultures but, if any sort of situation happened in one of the biggest Turkish clubs, Ed wouldn't even dare to come to the stadium. It has been seven years, and other than a small chant in Newcastle game, no protests has taken place. I don't get it.

Same here in Serbia, they would eat him alive.

You can also throw Solskjaer into the stupidity of this window. There was numerous articles highlighting before the summer that he said he was happy with the hierarchy basis and that Phelan was the only individual in the coaching staff with reservation about the foundations of structure at the club.

Would a DOF of Rio for example have settled knowing we are going into a full season with such a dire set of players ? It seems Ole just couldn't wait to get his name on a dotted line, Woodward has a history of failure, Solskjaer still took the job under the same terms he's made his bed now needs to lay in it.
