It is true. And yes, I'd like to think a player would care about the fans who worship him, of the club that has given him the opportunity to make a name for himself in the biggest league in the world. Not sure what's so hilarious.
Please, Carlos Tevez says hello.

He didn't grow up dreaming of playing for Norwich, he's not gonna give a flying feck if Barry from the waterfront thinks he's a cnut if his villa move is successful.

Not all players are like Tevez. I'd hope more care than don't. Not enough to stop them making the move they want but still, not everybody's a cnut.

It’s literally because you paint this as some Figo from Barcelona to Real Madrid-situation. It’s bloody Norwich, and he’s going to a bigger and better club with aspirations - their owners are among the richest in the league. Villa-fans really don’t care about Norwich, nobody cares about Norwich in that way. Buendia going there will do nothing about his reputation except enhancing his platform. If going from Norwich to Villa is a no-no, then basically all transfers are controversial.

Norwich didn’t give him anything, hard work and talent did, Norwich will be handsomely compensated. If not Norwich, some other club would have gotten him and sold him off.

Really disappointed in Buendia, this is going to tarnish his reputation with the Norwich fans (they hate Villa). Why go to them when if they sell Grealish they'll be right back into a relegation fight with Norwich. He's got the opportunity of another year as the main man in the Prem, and then get the real big clubs after him next year.
Wait, Norwich fans have an opinion about Villa? Are Villa aware? Or is this like Hull having a rivalry with United?

In fact, are Norwich aware? I found two bits online about this, one an article from Villa's side dismissing the rivalry (link), and the other a thread on the Pink Un forum where the only mention Villa as one of the geographically closest clubs to Norwich in the EPL (link).

They didn't like us poaching Paul Lambert in 2012 although that did more damage to us in the long run of course.

It's anyway not much to go on to still dislike Villa 9 years later though. Well, I should never underestimate the pettiness of fans, but still.

We also applauded them when they won the Championship title at Villa Park. We have no issues with them, but they seem to be another in an ever-growing list of fans that have a problem with us.

Arsenal losing out to Villa is hilarious though.

This seems to be it:

It's also the only thing mentioned in the article I brought up just above (but which is from six years ago). But as I also said there, no-one on the Pink Un forum in a recent thread on Norwich rivals seems to think Villa is one of them.

It's like Hull and United. Part of it's Lambert, part is a few years as rivals in the Championship and that Norwich just lack many decent rivals. Ipswich suck and they never play anyone else local. There's the same 'rivalry' with Leeds.

They have like 5 threads about Villa on Pink Un right now https://forum.pinkun.com/index.php?/topic/142554-the-i-hate-villa-thread/
Edit: that thread you found is talking about traditional rivals. This is more, clubs you've developed a recent hatred for.

From the Buendia Clap or Boo thread: "Difficult one, appreciate his time here, but like Lambert he’s sold himself to a crap club, he might end up regretting this move. I’ll certainly not be clapping anyone in a Villa shirt I’m afraid."
I'm telling you, they don't like you
There's some jealousy in it too, considering you were both in the same position a few years ago and then you got the rich owners.

The other guy that quoted me sounds like a fan of the super league. No other clubs matter but the biggest and richest ones?

Ha! Well, in that case, I'll go back to my other comment: never underestimate the pettiness of fans!

It's mostly jealousy with these clubs. When we were in the Championship, Bristol City of all teams were beefing with us  . They suddenly became experts on our financial situation. They knew stuff about us that even I didn't know .

But you hit the nail on what really rubs me the wrong way about all that animosity. It's a crabs in a bucket mentality. Surely you should be all for a club that's trying to break up the hegemony? For example I absolutely support Leicester and am happy that they're doing so well. It'd be so small time and petty for me to hate on them because they surpassed us and reached a level we could only dream of.

The hegemony caused by Billionaire owners bankrolling smaller clubs higher up the table? How is that different from the billionaire backed Aston Villa?

In a word, FFP. Effectively closed the door behind Man City.

Almost every team in the PL now and many in the Championship are owned by billionaires. They only differ in how ambitious they are and how much of their revenue they're willing to spend as well as a bunch of other factors like the board setup etc.

We had 2 billionaire owners before this. Our average league position between 2010 and 2018 under them, between 2 divisions, was ~19th. Having billionaire owners isn't enough. It might have been in 2008, but now you need to get a lot of things right to try to break through the glass ceiling. Leicester have come the closest and their owners aren't even top 10 richest in the league.

Think its more about ambition. Signing Buendia whilst keeping Grealish would be a big sign of that if its the plan. Chelsea's ambition last summer for example going out and getting the players they did was a remarkable transfer window and it demanded success. In the end it paid off winning the champions league although it wasnt working out mid season and it cost Lampard his job

Yeah, definitely ambition. Different owners are in it for different reasons. Our current owners are very ambitious. Actually our last owner was too, according to his plan, we were supposed to be bigger than Real Madrid this season  . But he was a bit of a buffoon and our club almost ceased to exist because of him, so ambition alone isn't enough. The current owners are very astute and made a lot of very good footballing appointments to help their ambition become reality.

Well I mean ambition shown by actually doing something. Theres been several owners who talked ambition then never did anything to act on it

Ah got it. Yeah, I imagine a lot of that is just lip service for the fans.

 Bristol City ffs. There's a lot of it in the Championship. I remember there being a beef with Swansea (bcos they got praised for decent football) and Wolves (bcos they got promoted using loans) too.

You're right, and it's completely hypocritical as the owners they're now hating on you for are the exact same owners every team in the Championship are dreaming of. It's great to see Leicester breaking the status quo, and if you keep Grealish I can see you doing the same.

He's a seriously talented player. Stood out a lot the season Norwich went down. Would've loved him here.

If Villa keep Grealish and sign Leon Bailey as they're rumoured to be then they'll have a front 4 that's as a good as any in the league.

He's going to have a very good season for Villa, who incidentally have a very, very good crop of young players breaking through. They're going to be a threat this season, top 6 is possible.
