Some serious similarities in the story line to Silo (books), must be an influence.

Can’t remember the in game story line at all, bar Fallout 3 (which was class).

Great show, glad it came out in one go.

What is going on in TV adaptations land when video games like this and The Last of Us are getting better adaptations than historically significant IP's?
Like @WI_Red says, having a showrunner who is a big name in the business having respect for the source material, working with the original creators and caring about the project makes a big difference. For too long adaptations have been nothing more than nods to the games even when they don't make sense (I'm looking at you, Resi movies) and a quick and easy way to cash in. And they used to fall flat because A) they didn't give a shit about some stupid game and B) they didn't bother trying to properly adapt it to the new medium.

For me TLoU and this show work so fecking well because they take the essence of the games to heart whilst ensuring that it works for TV. And having an amazing cast helps alot as well.

On another note I'm surprised so many people don't like the Maximus actor (Aaron Moten) because I think he's brilliant. A proper old school theatre actor. His scene with Michael Cristofer, Brotherhood Elder, an even bigger heavyweight of the stage, is absolutely amazing and just goes to show what happens when you take a project seriously. If you're getting the ladeedah proper thesbian actor twats on board with your video game adaptation then you know you're doing something right.

I can't wait for season two. They'll probably get more creative freedom and a bigger budget to really nail the batshit insane/endless panic of the games, and it's going to be beautiful.

Its very good and as someone who has played the modern games but wouldn't call myself an obsessive they quickly got me onside with all the little touches and how recognizable it was as Fallout, the quirky humour, the music, you can tell it comes from a production team who were showing some care for the source material, which as I nodded towards up the thread is not reproduced in so many other adaptations.

I like Maximus, don't get the criticism, bit of an eejit but a likeable one.

Yeh people don't seem to be understanding Maximus' character, he is the way he is because he was raised in the brotherhood, so the way he is and his knowledge (or lack of sometimes) makes sense.

Shall I watch without playing the game?
Yeh it's safe enough to watch without playing the games, there's a few things that might confuse you that fans of the games will only get, but these are easily looked up and answered afterwards.

Also liked Maximus. It didn't start out that way so no surprise some don't. That permanent dumb childlike look on his face is a good portrayal of the character though I think.

Thought this was terrific. As good as an adaption from a video game you are likely to see.

And my missus loved it too and haven't a clue about the games. In fact, she's encouraged me to play through Fallout 4 again so she can learn more of the world. Suits me.

Why are people looking to Maximus to be a lead character? He’s not. He’s a foil and device for others. I think the character was ace to link various plot lines together.

Yes! I knew nothing about the games going in and I really enjoyed the series. I did start watching game cutscenes after getting into the series because it made me curious about the universe but I definitely think it's great without playing any of the games.

Zach Cherry is basically a younger version of Stephen McKinley Henderson. And combined they are in every Sci-Fi thing possible.

If anyone is interested in playing Fallout 4 again because of this show, the DLC is currently on sale on the Playstation store but it ends today, with the new next gen update arriving tomorrow.

Finished this at the weekend, having never played the game.
Really enjoyed everything about it. Thought the way they did flashbacks was well done and you didn't feel like you were just jumping around struggling to keep up.
Some good comedy moments and reveals.

Finished it today. It’s good fun.

The stuff in vaults 31-33 was some of the most interesting and they intertwined the flashbacks well and connected it all nicely.

I also really enjoyed Thaddeus. Had some great moments

I recognized Thaddeus from the Jump Street films and thought "isn't he a bit young to play this role", but then I realized the first film was 12 years ago and that he was already 30 at that point.

Finished it.

It was great, I thought they absolutely nailed the look and feel of the games, with the perfect amount of comedy, gore, and drama. Hard to imagine a more perfect adaptation really?

Lucy and Cooper are great characters. Maximus, yeah I dunno, I’m mixed on him, but I get that’s what the character should be.

New Vegas is very dated, but it's newer than Fallout 3 which is even more dated. Fallout 4 has a lot of gameplay improvements, but the writing is a very clear step down. Also it's locked at 60 fps, which annoys me.

Watched the final episode last night: it didn’t disappoint. The level of detail they went into to recreate the look and feel is incredible. Like the Red Rocket station, the way the terminals have the same guess the password interface, great stuff. No idea why Maximus is getting criticized. All the cast were exceptional. 10/10 would watch again

They're all dated tbh, considering the last game came out a decade ago, and Bethesda isn't exactly known for visual fidelity in their games. Heck I remember Fallout 4 feeling dated when it released. (I'm not counting 76, blissfully forgot about its pitiful existence until recently).

In terms of writing, game design, RPG elements and world building New Vegas trumps the lot. Which makes sense considering its the only non Bethesda offering

Thought it was really good. They did well to story build and create something engaging within the world. I like all the characters too which is quite rare. Lucy is excellent, as is the Ghoul. Maximus is great in his own way too, ideally you needed a character like that who is very vulnerable but arguably in a position where they can have most power.

Finished watching it last night and overall I
enjoyed it. I’ve never played any of the games so I found it a bit slow going to start off with - I was mainly interested in it because it’s by the creators of Westworld, which was fantastic for two seasons (and you can clearly see the similarities with this show).

I thought Ella Purnell was a very likeable lead, and Walter Goggins was great as the Ghoul (very similar characters to Delores and the Man in Black in Westworld). But I was less interested in the stuff about Vault 31/32/33. I felt those scenes dragged and the big reveal at the end was quite underwhelming. And Maximus was a really annoying character. He was just so dumb, with very few redeeming qualities, other than being extremely lucky.

So I sort of enjoyed it, but that was mainly due to Purnell’s and Goggins’ performances, and the bits that reminded me of WestWorld.

I loved the ideas and storyline concerning Vaults 31/32/33. For me I find that world equally more interesting than the Wasteland.

Also, I gather L.Q Jone's brilliant cult film A Boy and His Dog was a major inspiration for the Fallout games.

I watched the first episode and it’s… ok?

Weird vibe the way it mixes up a 50s sort of kitsch aesthetic with extreme violence but ok. The main problem is I have no fecking clue what’s going on. They’ve been living underground for hundreds of years but they seem to know about “raiders” that live above ground? Wouldn’t that make them a bit morecurious to see what’s going on out there? Why does it seem so crazy to them that yer wan might go for a look see? And I can’t for the life of me work out what’s going on in with the guys in the robot suits and their squires. Or why would they put razors in each other’s boots. Never mind why some dead person has IV fluids running into his grave and is regularly dug up to have bits cut off? WTF?! And who the feck were those guys who dug him up? And what’s a chicken got to do with anything? Plus why was the graveyard guarded? And why is everyone interested in some bloke and his dog?

Does all of this make sense to people who played the game? Because it’s muddled nonsense to me. Maybe it all gets cleared up in the next episode or two? It fecking better, or I’m outta here.

I find It interesting to see how this generally plays for audiences, such as yourself, who know very little about the Fallout world. Though I would certainly persevere with the show, which started to really clicked for me during episode 4.

Beginning of episode two turned the gf off it completely. I understand why, it's bit of pointless shock horror for the sake of it.

I mean, I've played some Fallout games. Much of what Pogue asked doesn't make much sense to me either. It's strange that after watching 2 hours (2 episodes) that there's still not much of a plot.

We have "I'm looking for my dad" and "friendless loser" and "mutant who wants what" along with some scary witch in the middle of it all.

Episode one was interesting but episode 2 was a bit shit.

I don't remember any shock horror in the beginning of the second episode? Although it was probably a good time to walk away if it isn't her thing, seemingly random gore is a fallout tradition.
