I like head to head after last season. In my last draft league I won the last game of the season with 1 point which gave me the win in the league with 1 point in total even though I was not the highest scoring side in total.

Both could be boring if someone nails all the best players.
Very true. I think this season we’re trying to set a rule in transfers so it doesn’t get stale with a run-away leader. Think we’ve suggested that every team has to make a trade every 3 weeks.

I won with my defenders. I had Auba and Havertz as my star picks and the guy in second had Salah as his first pick. Callum Wilson was my best player before I traded him when he got injured and had TAA/Dallas/Robertson. I also brought in Nacho when noone had him. James Rodriguez I did keep for so long I think, but eventually let him go. I do not know why others let me get TAA and Robertson, but they mostly went for attackers.

I think in the draft we had you could pick up players who noone had. Only half the league was active enough so it made it a bit too easy to find good picks like a cheap defender with good fixtures.

I've ended up in 3 Caf leagues, RedCafe, RedCafe2021, and Colin's Mondeo. Are they all active sort of thing? Should I care?

I'm with you.

First draft. Thoughts? (especially @Sandikan as I know he won't hold back)

Read some very good pieces on avoiding too many transfers early on due to impact on squad value/funds (there's one such piece in the FPL app actually).

So, aim is to pick a 15 (not an 11) for the first 5+ weeks. Looked at FDR as well, but will have a closer look later at first 10 GWs and see who plays/who's dropped.. may get a Ben Crellins spreadsheet.

Some 50/50s

Mendy v Ederson

Harrison v Soucek (FDR?)

Cavani or have faith in Jesus?

Toney could be another Watkins (come to the PL, hit it) but Brentford aren't Villa

You have 2 Chelsea players and their opening set of fixtures are a nightmare. I wouldn't feel comfortable about that.

The way you've distributed money will also make it tough for you to manoeuvre around later on without taking hits.

Yeah, I was 50 50 on top goalie but will change it to Ederson as their tougher fixtures seem to fall opposite to West Ham's (Fabianskis) tougher fixtures.

That leaves 1 Chelsea player which I don't mind as (1) I'm not picking a team for a week and (2) I think Havertz could step up FF pointswise.

In terms of money distribution, yes it's a challenge but plan is lots of points options rather than spewing over a third of the budget on Bruno/Kane/Salah. I'm taking a "Moneyball" approach (good film)

Why you want to spend so much on keepers I wonder?

Ederson as set & forget is tempting. You basically know he's going to get you 150+, plays every week, can deliver a clean sheet in any game. Downside is he's unlikely to ever haul so it's a more even points distribution which isn't always ideal.

Just feel if you can nail down the first choice defensive picks for City fullbacks then they will probably do better than Ederson.

Ederson last year got 3 bonus points and the main reason he got them was from one crazy assist which is very rare and from a pk save.

Cancelo got 2 goals 4 assists. Not amazing, but he got potential to do more.

Annoyingly, when people post screenshots I can't see it through the laptop at work as it violates the rules.

However, looking on the the phone that looks quite an interesting differential team.

Havertz could explode.
Buendia could prove to be more cost effective than Grealish.
Not sure how expensive Konate is, but he like White are good ways in to teams near the top.

Maybe you're giving yourself a difficult selection in defence each week though. That's 5 players either expensive or from big teams, so most weeks you're leaving 2 out.
Digne always seems to flatter to return to me.

Midfield perhaps a little weak if anything. Missing that second "guaranteed" big hitter unless one of the differentials pays off.

Cavani i love for Man Utd, but he strikes me as Costa-lite in fantasy footy. A 1 goal a game max man. And surely won't play every week.
Has your place got a suggestion box? "Please amend the company firewall so I can view Fantasy Football teams in work"

Konate is 5.5 and I'm assuming (given his tfr fee), he's going to play. With VD back, also assuming their defence reverts to more clean sheets.

Only Dias is above £5.5m (he's £6m) and given their various fixtures, aim is to always have 3 (or 4) with "easy" games. City, Arsenal and Chelsea have tough games in different first 6 weeks.

Also (as has been said on some FF expert sites), feels like there's a lot of value in defenders. Again, I'm taking a Moneyball approach... ok, Kane, Bruno, Salah get 200+ PTS but they're also £12m or more and last season averaged about 20 points per £m. Defenders did better... Dias was 25 per £m. I think Semedo got more pts per £m than Salah

Midfield, agree (but this was first draft and no issues playing 433). Will review later, ta.

Cavani is maybe heart v head (not good in FF) but also with Rashford out, I could see him starting often first two months (and I'm picking a squad for 5-10 weeks). Unless Martial starts more because he's had the biggest holiday... what with being shit and not making his Intl squad and all.

As first post said, Jesus is the alt, same price. With no Aguerro, could be their no.1

Diolch.

Have shite and it costs £9m min? For £2m more, you cover yourself with two good options which should get a lot more points. £1m-£2m more isn't as certain to get you lots more points in MFers or Fwds. May change 2nd GK though

Again, FIRST draft but feel there's more value in defence. I have a 6th /7th pick who I haven't put in but may do (for Digne or Konate... saves £0.5m too)

My best friend is not really into football. The funny thing is his cars registration plate has the sign FPL haha. I have explained for him that it stands for fantasy premier league.

The thing is cheaper keepers tend to do pretty well at least when they have ok games. It is cause the weaker the side you play for the more safe points you get since the other teams create chances.
When you have 0-0 games between for example Norwich and brighton the keepers can often get a decent amount of points.

With defenders mostly attacking defenders from good sides get most points and often bonus even without attacking returns. Shaw, TAA, Cancelo all good for bonus for example.

Ederson will probably be a top scoring keeper over the season again and you may gain value if you keep him, but for runs with easy fixtures it might gain more having keepers that can haul you 9-10 points at times and give you 3 points in other games even when they concede . Ederson mostly get 6 or 2.

Mate go with your own ideas though. I like most of your team. The good thing with Ederson is that he rarely gets rotated unlike Cancelo that I do want and fear might not play too much. Cancalo had higher points per game last season
which is kind of my point with City def over keeper. Problem if he only play 50% of the games I might miss half the clean sheets and need my bench to do well.

Yip, all good points and I was thinking of Cancelo/Fofana for Digne/Konate but then you play Pep roulette (bald fraud).

The challenge is picking this season's Pope or Guaita? I think Palace will be shit and Martinez is almost top price so no.

Note that NONE of last year's top.10 points scorers for GKers cost less than £5m this season. Guaita or another punt for £4.5m or Meslier or Fabianski for an extra £0.5m?

Will sit in garden tonight and review/bear in mind all useful advice.

Most important thing is what's everyone's team name?

Going with Iron Jadon at the moment but could be subject to change.

I think you can go one more expensive keeper, but having two over 4.5 is a bit much. I think if you have Ederson I would play him in all games apart from Liverpool, Chelsea and us. We have a high number of 0-0 against City too and if he gets save points/pk save it might be in big games.

I think one thing which you need luck for is pk saves. Henderson is pretty good at making them if I remember correctly. Martinez good at them. Ederson not bad. Question is how many teams give away. Most keepers get like 1 per season so can be hard to get it. I have not had one for 2 seasons now, but benched 2 in a row funny enough after rotating my keepers so I missed both. That is a problem with keeper rotation. PK saves more likely in the hard games particular against Man City who misses far too many for the quality they got.

It is hard to figure out whether it's better to spend 6.0m on a goalkeeper and go with a 4.5-5.0m defender, or 4.5m-5.0m goalkeeper and go with a 5.5m-6.0m defender. I am almost sure I will want nothing to do with TAA or Robertson as I do not really believe they are going to outscore Shaw or Digne that significantly with VVD only coming back from injury and their defence being quite shaky. TAA had a good finish to last season so he's probably a better option, especially as he had no Euros, but still I would prefer to utilize the 2.0m elsewhere. I feel like you can build an amazing defence at 2x5.5m + 5.0m + 2x 4.5m.

I still need at least one fodder in my team but not convinced about putting that in midfield... honestly I like all of Trossard, Buendia and Raphinha too much and I'm actually tempted to upgrade to someone like Pepe or Havertz as opposed to downgrading to Bissouma or something. Attack is where I feel it's easiest to go with the fodder as there aren't that many great options with Kane, Vardy, Auba priced far too high.

Rotating keepers is hell though. Just take Ederson and fodder, you don't need backup if you have him. You are almost always wasting 1.0m on bench needlessly if you go with 6+5.

Cheaper keeper because they don't have much of a route to a haul/attacking returns.

I feel the best defenders got insane potential. TAA you pay a lot, but gets a lot. Good for assists, bonus, not bad for goals and decent for clean sheets.
Shaw, Digne, Castagne great value and high assist and bonus potential.
Cancelo and Chilwell got huge potential, but how much will they play?

Tierney and Coufal/Cresswell great value and great potential, Doherty, Reguilon could be great too

All these players very attacking and plays for top sides that could keep clean sheets.

Worst year was the year the site was actually blocked at work!
That killed the numbers for those casuals who only check at work.

It may have been a time not everyone had a smart phone to do it on their phone too. Nightmare!

Because of his broken ribs? Is it confirmed he's missing games? I don't see how his ribs will be worse by the time the season starts than when he played in the euros through the pain
Yeah. It's a good point. Although he may be given time to rest because of it.

Shaw and Digne are essentials for me. For other spots I currently have Fofana, Lamptey and Coufal, out of whom I like Coufal the most and Fofana the least. Looking at Tierney and Reguilon as options too.

I think I am going to double up with Doherty and Reguillon.

If Nuno gets Spurs playing like his first few seasons at Wolves, they are creating for Kane/Son potentially. Could well be massive in terms of assists and he will undoubtedly make them more solid too.

They could well be bargains at 5 million a piece after a Mourinho/Mason season.

Players I really like to be nailed, but will they be? Bowen, Traore, Barnes, Jota, Greenwood, Foden, Havertz. Who got the best chance to play say 4-5 games in a row from these?
