FAO Tottenham Hotspur | Fighting Cock Goes Into Meltdown | Glast...gone

2 in 6 in CL knockout games. These are the moments you want your biggest and best players to turn up. He hasn't.

I dont disagree. Everybody wants that. But it's quite hard to carry a team when they're not great quality and used to bottle it like Spurs.

I like him and think he's quality but it is the only question mark I have around his quality. Those crucial knockout ties, for England and for Spurs so far, he's unfortunately not got a good record matched up against other players. If he had won trophies it wouldn't matter as much but since he hasn't it becomes even more glaringly obvious.

People expecting him to basically play midfield, score goals and make assists. He can't do it all. That team is dogshit lead by a dogshit manager.

He has scored important goals for England. He could really do with some help.

I actually disagree. He has not done it for England either, WC semi, Euros final and the last WC he did not turn up when the team needs their main man to.

The dogshit team you talk about has Kane, Son, kulu, Bentancur, Lenglet, Romero, Bissouma, Richarlison. Its not really a dogshit team is it?

It kind of is.

60m forward has scored 2 goals whole season.

Bissouma is bang average(looked good at Brighton but look how easily they replaced him).

Son is WC but woefully out of form.

Lenglet

Romero is a liability when his head is not in the game, always getting sent off or making bad challenges.

The other 2 loanees from Juventus have been injured for most part of the season so yeah, whoever they play instead of them, they are dogshit.

What's the reason Son just stopped being great? I mean, he was firing on all fronts and then Conte came in. Such a talented player really. Is he not used correct by Conte, is it his confidence or what is it?

No idea - he looks like he is finished at the top level almost overnight - I guess sometimes it happens.

Spurs could probably do with a bit of a reset, sell Kane and Son for 150 million, sack Conte and heavily back the new manager as much as they can financially.
The entire club needs a reset yeah. We are currently a total disaster behind the scenes and on the pitch. Levy is superb at bringing in investment and overseeing stadium rebuilds however he is probably the worst chairman in the league in terms of actual football.

Isn't there a Spirs thread?

Not to poke but minus the shit football I think Spurs are kind of where they should be. Biggest problem for Spurs this season was they ended last year so well and because they had Conte a lot of pundits were predicting and expecting a title challenge which in turn fooled the fans into thinking this would happen.

The two domestic cup exits were awful don’t get me wrong but 4th in the league and CL last 16 knocked out 1-0 by 8 time winners AC Milan doesn’t strike me as disastrous.

But then again: Name one big player who has been able to carry a team of Spurs' quality like that? I can't think of one.

A modern day Maradona in Napoli story is just hard to find. But somehow how we evaluate Kane is held against these extreme criteria.

We are aiming to be much more than that though - we want to progress and become one of the biggest and best clubs in the country.

I get that but i don’t think youre spending anywhere near enough to make that happen and that’s reflected in the squad. Although signing Bissouma when you had Bentacur and Hojberg and don’t have a proper creative midfielder was a little silly and overall your transfers weren’t great but still. It’s still not close to that of the likes of City Chelsea etc.

Yes you are right we aren't - and that's all down to just one man. The same man that made a big splash about getting £150 million extra to spend in the summer only to take back £50 million of it and then not buy a central defender which was his manager's number 1 priority.

Yuh, it’s not working with Levy at the moment. He doesn’t seem to be getting on with anyone in charge. Hiring Santo, Mourinho and Conte and basically falling out with all of them. He does seem a bit lost since Poch.

Poch who he didn't buy a single player for over two transfer windows don't forget - he basically ran him under the bus as well.

He's a piss poor football chairmen. Sure he balances the books well, but you don't get a trophy for that do you? He's fallen out with numerous Managers, makes piss poor decisions on a constant basis and the only time when they actually looked like they were going places he decided not to back the Manager.

I'd hate to have him anywhere near United. He is the problem at Tottenham, always has been, always will be. How many trophies have they won with him at the club?

I couldn't agree more with this.

This seems as good a thread as any to point out how insufferable Jenas is as a co commentator.

I'm half convinced the booing at the end was just him shouting into the stadium PA system

Even with Maradona at Napoli, they still had a very good team, they weren't a team of nobodies, plus Maradona.

They won't finish 4th which is a problem.

8 time winners doesn't mean anything. They are doing OK in serie A but are not flying high by any means. In any case its not the losing the tie that's the big problem.... It's the complete lack of a decent performance in a knockout fixture at home down by just 1 goal in the tie.

Our squad has been labelled dog under certain managers.

People really need to start distinguishing between ability/quality and performances.

Kane is a very good player, but he lacks creativity and assists from the rest of his team. Son used to be the creative force but has suffered a bad year, and sapped of confidence, leaving Kane isolated and frustrated up front.
Put Kane in napoli’s squad and he will be banging at least same number for goals as Osimhen.

It goes back even further than that.

He let Sherwood undermine AVB, gave Sherwood the job and immediately started undermining him as well.

Yeah he has been at the same thing for years. He just can't help himself.

Forgot about that Danjuma lad that rejected us. How many minutes has he played since signing?

Spurs have some quality in certain positions already. Agree that selling Kane and Son and getting (as close to) £150m would be a good way to bring some new life and energy in the team.

But there are also big problem areas in the team elsewhere.

Goalkeeper will need to be replaced (Bazanu would be a savvy acquisition for you guys).

Back 4 - you could probably keep Pedro Porro, Sessegnon as your first choice with Emerson and Davies as deputies. Romero will need a new first choice partner though,

Midfield Bentancur and Hojberg is good pairing but they’ll need a 3rd, more creative, midfielder.

LW they’ll need to spend big.
Richarlison could do a good job as a CF although he’s never been prolific.
RW Kulusevski is great, but again, you’ll need squad depth across the front line.

So realistically, you're looking at 5 maybe 6 signings - 4 for the first team (GK, CB, AM, LW) and the latter 1 or 2 (CM and Att.) to improve the overall squad.

Our rebuild at the start of the season worked out being 4 first team signings and 1 squad signing and you can see the noticeable improvement from pretty early on. It's doable, not impossible, but it will require Levy to release the funds.

New GK

Sessegnon
New CB
Romero
Pedro Porro

Hojberg
Bentancur
New AM

New LW
Richarlison
Kulusevski

Sessegnon has been crap for Spurs and would probably be even worse in a back four, same goes for Porro. They've got Udogie coming back from Udinese but he's also played more or less only as a WB. So I'd say their FB/WB situation is far from ideal, although there might be some potential (but only as wingbacks).

Forgot about that Danjuma lad that rejected us. How many minutes has he played since signing?

47 over 4 games apparently. 19 minutes is the most he's had in a game but he also scored in that one so Conte was probably fuming and hasn't wanted to play him since.

Yeah we need to spend a fortune just to stay where we are. It's really not good.

Hojberg
Bentancur
New AM - Beek

New LW - Elanga

All theirs for the low, low price of 1x mouthbreathing striker. Can even chuck in Martial to channel the spirit of Darren Anderton, if they want.

I don’t mean to kick you while you’re down but you know that’s never going to happen. Well definitely not with the current owners. Even with new owners it’s a long journey to get ahead of City, Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Newcastle.

Can you imagine Spurs fans' reaction when they find out they're replacing Dier with Maguire...

I think he's been ok, just very inconsistent - he's still quite young. Technically, he's sound - just his decision making and awareness are lacking (but these are things that can be improved on).

I haven't seen enough of Porro, but I imagine he was brought in as first choice and with one eye on next season.
