It is. That he’s still in his job is a travesty.Exactly! Boris is an ubercunt and that Tweet is a fecking disgrace imho.
It’s a disgrace whoever says it. It’s a double disgrace that a cabinet level representative of our government is saying itJust imagine for a second that was Corbyn...
Poh-tay-toe, poh-tah-toeHe isn't far-right, he is nationalist.
I was going to reply in a similar fashion but you did it for me and far better than mine would have been.Poh-tay-toe, poh-tah-toe
It is. That he’s still in his job is a travesty.
Damn right on both accounts. It’s a disgrace whoever says it. It’s a double disgrace that a cabinet level representative of our government is saying it
He won his third consecutive term. They won a 2/3 majority again thanks to the election system they had devised after their 2010 win which hugely favours the strongest party. Their campaign had one and only one element: migrants. Seriously, there was nothing else. Fidesz built a massive media empire which, together with the state TV, did nothing but ram home the point that they are defending Hungary from the migrant threat and from György Soros's agents. He's been ruling on and off for majority of past 15+ years, right? No change, then!
Someone from the far-right generally has ambitions and world views that they want to emply on a more global or international scale. A nationalist like the Hungarian president gives two shits about far-right ideologies, but mostly focuses on his own country. Limiting immigration is one of their goals, since nationalism naturally strives to uphold their national demography.Poh-tay-toe, poh-tah-toe
Go be "terrified" and "genuinely scared" about some tweets.I was going to reply in a similar fashion but you did it for me and far better than mine would have been.
They aren't mutually exclusive though are they. One can simultaneously display elements of both nationalism and far right type policies. In most instances, I would imagine there is considerable overlap between the two.Someone from the far-right generally has ambitions and world views that they want to emply on a more global scale. A nationalist like the Hungarian president gives two shits about far-right ideologies, but mostly focuses on his own country.
Yeah, this Hungarian guy is of the new breed of nationalistic and anti-EU politicians, where they choose to be on the right wing of politics when it comes to immigration and integration, but on the left socially and economically. They aren't mutually exclusive though are they. ? Is there really any need for that at all?Go be "terrified" and "genuinely scared" about some tweets.
He is not on the left socially and economically, not even close. He is building (well, has built) an oligarchy with friends and associates, and created an economy where success is heavily dependent on a company's relationship with the regime.Yeah, this Hungarian guy is of the new breed of nationalistic and anti-EU politicians, where they choose to be on the right wing of politics when it comes to immigration and integration, but on the left socially and economically.
IMO a totally legit combination, and it is just lazy to outright label them as just some right-wing cnuts.
You from there? Are there lots of immigrants? What the common man feeling? Lots of anti-immigrant sentiment? He won his third consecutive term. Their first new law will be the one known as Stop Soros which allows the domestic intelligence service to monitor civil organizations.
No immigrants at all, basically. We are a transit country, nobody wants to be here. This isn't Germany. You from there? Are there lots of immigrants? What the common man feeling? Lots of anti-immigrant sentiment?
Read an article about his state funded work program the other day, that was why I figured him to be socialistic with his economic policies. He is not on the left socially and economically, not even close. He is building (well, has built) an oligarchy with friends and associates, and created an economy where success is heavily dependent on a company's relationship with the regime.
And he's certainly not new He's been around for 30 years now. Used to be a hardcore liberal then turned self-confessed conservative and now his party barely has any ideology left. Everything is just about keeping power.
What? You don't like labels? Stop handing them out at every opportunity towards everything and everyone that goes against your world views then.? Is there really any need for that at all?
To be honest It's far from cute and it is outrageous that our foreign secretary openly supported this election win whilst he has spent the last few weeks attacking the opposition leader for being anti Semitic.By the way it is cute that you guys get outraged by that Boris Johnson tweet. Must be nice to live in a happy country where such a comment is noticed and is considered outrageous.
I agree with you, and I'm saying you don't know how good you still have it. Around here this would be nothing. To be honest It's far from cute and it is outrageous that our foreign secretary openly supported this election win whilst he has spent the last few weeks attacking the opposition leader for being anti Semitic.
.
Part of living in a civilised country is that we are supposed to hold elected and governent officials accountable especially when they profess to speak for all of us. And sorry but anti-semitism is not acceptable in civiised society. I'm personally thankful I live in a society that also mostly shares the same opinion and to be honest I would hate to live somewhere where attitudes like this are accepted and not called out or criticised.
Nothing to do with labels at all and don't pretend your reply was giving me one either. I don't appreciate your tone nor the insult. What? You don't like labels? Stop handing them out at every opportunity towards everything and everyone that goes against your world views then.
I know, and we are grateful. Well most of us are anyway and those that aren't bloody well should be.I agree with you, and I'm saying you don't know how good you still have it. Around here this would be nothing.
The state-funded work program is a very right-wing thing actually: if you are a registered jobseeker, you must not refuse any work within that program otherwise you forfeit the right to any government assistance. The reasoning is that this way 'lazy people get no handouts' which isn't exactly a leftist sentiment. In practice they are basically low-paid indentured servants in many places, especially smaller towns and villages. The money they get is barely enough for anything and they dont have the time or the money to go to trainings or any form of further education, nor can they look for a job because they cannot afford to jeopardize their sole income.Read an article about his state funded work program the other day, that was why I figured him to be socialistic with his economic policies.
Yup, they bought the same thing from Getty that Farage and co. did. This looks familiar
That's mostly just out of opportunism - in the UK, UKIP for a while tried to position themselves as a fairly left-wing party economically in order to appeal to northern working-class voters where their popularity had increased, but their roots were as a libertarian anti-NHS party, and that was an attitude that still emerged most of the time in spite of their feigns to the left.Yeah, this Hungarian guy is of the new breed of nationalistic and anti-EU politicians, where they choose to be on the right wing of politics when it comes to immigration and integration, but on the left socially and economically.

The EU has freedom of movement for workers though - not just unfettered movement where you can move to any other EU nation with no questions whatsoever asked. Obviously a lot of people will naturally try to cheat the system, but I feel like a lot of EU countries - certainly ones in the centre and west of Europe - kind of need to be able to move freely between borders. A lot of these countries are so closely/linked connected that you'll have substantial numbers of people crossing borders from one town to the next for work each day etc. Guarded borders aren't really tenable in that respect.Free and open immigration is a unworkable concept anyway. EU should realize that.
Should probably stop making so many refugees then.Free and open immigration is a unworkable concept anyway. EU should realize that.
I don't think any country wants that to be fair. Immigration should be based on need and merit.Free and open immigration is a unworkable concept anyway. EU should realize that.
Given our political weakness, I suspect it's Boris playing footsie with a potential post Brexit ally, if I'm being honest. Which has just made me throw up a bit in my mouth.By the way it is cute that you guys get outraged by that Boris Johnson tweet. Just check out some of the replies. It appears their shared hatred for Muslims outweighs their hatred for each other. As one Tweet says, fascists of a feather flock together.Tweet

So how antisemitic is this guy?
I think it's based on his anti-Soros campaign, which is a fairly standard trope on the far right. All-powerful jews and whatnot.Tweet

It's amazing that they've actually used the same picture, shameless in every way.Yup, they bought the same thing from Getty that Farage and co. did.
It's just a fairly standard thing, surely. Bloke wins election, may have odious views, but you congratulate him, say you want to work together and then try and calm down their batshit craziness with various carrots.Tweet
