Support for England does not equal support for Brexit mate. ;)
Abso-bloody-lutely. Would vote to rejoin, even with the euro, in a heartbeat. But that doesn't detract one iota from my support of the team.

For all the England fans who were moaning about Southgate not playing exciting football: would you rather lose 3-4 in normal time or win on penalties after a dull 0-0?

I though so.
Surely if we are going with a back 5 then we will see either Grealish or Sancho from the start alongside Kane and Sterling?

Not sure how that will be boring

Edit I forgot about Mount. Will be more 5-3-2 than 5-2-3

Looks like it's going to be Mount in the hole, with Philips/Rice in a defensive midfield two.

Mount out then it'd be the same starting XI that played against Germany. Personally think if it is 343 then both Mount and Saka should be dropped as neither have done enough. Both provide a nice balance in a front 4 but not enough end product in a front 3. Kane, Sterling and Sancho/Grealish in the front 3.
I'd be amazed if Mount misses out tbh as I've said earlier about him being the best player in England midfield to nulify Jorginho unless Henderson is ready to start.

Would be Saka surely and then give Sterling a free ish role around Kane.

I'd actually go 4-3-3 v Italy and totally match them up. Could move Mount central and bring in Sancho for instance.

I think Kane will find himself very isolated again in that formation and put in another stinker..

London's gonna be on fire if England lose :nervous: Or at least a bit battered.

I would understand going with Trippier and Walker if Spinazzola were playing. Emerson really has nothing except some pace which he can't use against Walker who hasn't even been that adventurous so far this tournament.

Sterling and Shaw will be key for England in attack, they'll be the only 2 players with real pace who are allowed to go forward at least in the 1st half.

The Italian midfield will also feel they could breathe again after the last game which will be crucial for their game plan.

This is the lineup I was expecting. Wonder whether Mount is on the right, or in the hole with Kane and Sterling up top though. And who keeps leaking the team?

He's got us this far, so just gonna trust that Southgate knows best this time.

Why does our team news always appear to come out hours before the match? Does it happen with the other countries? Obviously I only read the English media so only know that.
Don't know about the others but it's the same in my country too. Would've thought it will be the same in every country where football is popular.

Southgate bottling it going to a back 5, what a coward
Reverting to a formation that was successful against the Germans is hardly cowardly. And it's not as if he can't adopt a more attacking approach later in the game - after the Italians have run out of steam, of course.

Let them. England are probably at their best on the counter.
The danger for me is them consistently trying to set up a diamond where Veratti gets through Rice/Phillips, Insigne & Chiesa get behind our wingers, and Immobile picks up the ball.

Shaw, Maguire, Stones, Trippier, Walker, Rice, Phillips, Mount. In a single team.

In a European final, quite possibly one of the most negative team selections I have ever seen. Sterling and Kane are going to need to work miracles

Yeah, nothing wrong with that.

So what you're saying is, against any team that's half-decent, brick it and drop into a negative shell? With the amount of talent available to him, that's not acceptable

See, it doesn't really matter what I say at this point. You're gonna take a negative view regardless.

Let's wait and see how it all pans out tonight before you run Southgate into the ground ;)

Is this the biggest game of all time for English United fans ?
I don’t know that many people will view it like that. Club loyalties tend to run much deeper. I think it’s big though, be great for the country….plus I’ve a crucial job interview tomorrow so would prefer the interviewers to be riding a wave of elation rather than hungover and pissed off

England fans in large quantities acting like pissed up Neanderthals isn't exactly unheard of, Covid or not.

Southgate will try to keep it tight and bring on the heavy hitters later. With six subs he can really change things if needed.

I’m English and an England fan

But looking at this with my head, how are England favourites?! Italy haven’t lost in God knows how long and have a much better XI. Weird odds.

11/10 on skybet for Italy to win the tie. I feel like I’m missing something. A couple of days on English food and the Italians will get a stomach bug?

I wanna say yes, but a successful United side is still far more important to me.
Nah, CL99 and 08 trump this for me by far.
Biggest since 1966.
Not even close. United > England.
The opening day game against Leeds on 14th August is bigger.
Biggest England game I can remember anyway. Wasn’t around in ‘66. United > England though, every day of the week.
Cheers.
