He isn’t jeopardising anything. Barca won’t let him rot in the reserves, that’s a fantasy that people on here have cooked up. And even if he gets limited game time he’s one of LVG’s favourites, nothing is stopping him playing for Netherlands.
Well, that's the key bit of leverage they have in this situation. Let's assume they desperately need the €80m (which I think they do) then they'll do anything to get rid.

I also think it's naive to assume he'd play in a World Cup without first team football for 4 months tbh.

At this point if FDJ doesn’t realise his future isn’t in barcelona you have to worry for him a bit.

I do wonder whether he will take quite a while to get his head sorted?

I hope it sets into him soon, as a player and a person he doesn’t deserve this treatment

Poor fella. Gets engaged over the summer but looks like he is heading towards a divorce professionally a few weeks later.

He’ll 100% play for both Barca and Country

Spanish outlets are click baiting United fans at this point. I’d do the same if I ran these outlets.

There’s no way we’d get this invested as a club if we didn’t have assurances from the player.

Relax
Why do you assume that when we have a history of it

Will footballers ever stop dreaming of Barca and Real? They're always number 1 for 90% of Euro players.

Mostly for South European and South American players though. A lot of Dutch people do like Barcelona because of the history/Cruijff, they kind of see it as a Spanish Ajax.

Please can Sports be Banned, it's getting obvious they are WUMs.

Not entirely correct. La Liga has a salary cap and right now Barca are on target to be massively over that to the extent that they currently cannot register any of their new signings. If he stays and Barca have a choice to register Frenkie and leave Kessie, Christensen, Raphina and potentially Lewa out of their squad or they can register all the new guys and leave Frenkie to rot which option do you think they will choose? The fantasy is that they can register all of these players plus Frenkie, it literally is impossible and so something has to give and Barca have been pretty fecking clear about their choice.

Put yourself in Barca's shoes for a minute. You HAVE to sell this guy to register new players, keep functioning etc. What other card do you play except threaten to dump him? He has a contract, so you have to make him think his career will be set back.

He will start for NL in de World Cupp 100% even if he will only train with Barca 2 for the next couple of months..

Perhaps this is the problem! He promised her the sun and beaches of Barcelona and now she will get the rain of Manchester!

Damn but how bad must it feel that a top player is having to literally be dragged away from his club to join us. Should light a fire under the arses of the players. United needs to be desirable again.
Tons of articles have stated this. The total he deferred was 17M and he also extended his deal by 2 years so that they could pay him back over the next 4 years. Barca are trying to sell him and have been doing so all summer regardless of what they have said publicly and their stance is that as the money was pushed into future years on his contract they should not have to pay it if he leaves. His stance quite understandably has been that he agreed to that in good faith that he would remain at the club for the duration of the contract and be paid back and so if they are trying to push him out of the door they need to pay him the wages deferred. This is pretty good article that sums up how they have behaved, Raphina really should read this.

The Barcelona offer to Frenkie de Jong is an insult to both the player and the game (football365.com)
Surely when he signed the contract extension and debt repayment structure FDJ representatives included a clause that if Barca suddenly sold him that didn't cancelled the money he is owed. I would find this naive on FDJ teams part.

He's a world class player when on form and is arguably Netherlands most important player. He plays no matter what.

Barcelona is literally on the beach...so I wouldn't wonna leave for Manchester either but it's mostly the city not the club. Having said that...a job is a job and Frankie will eventually leave and reluctantly come here for a few years.

So... the Dutch Pogba?
Pogba at his best was a quality player. But they are different. Pogba was best in the opposing half, not being the first to pick the ball up from the defence and initiate play. Pogba wants time on the ball and has never been a press resistant player. Meant he was more likely to struggle in the premier league. Pogba was never a deep "controller", not someone who dictated the tempo just knows when and where to play it to progress the ball. Pogba always loved looking for the killer passes, not necessarily being the build up guy. His movement was not that of a natural deep playmaker.

Frenkie de Jong is all these things. He's impossible to take the ball off of, he is at his best when he can pick it up off the defenders and dictate the play, his decision making is excellent, he's not at his best being the guy who always is supposed to make the killer passes but is perfect to be the main person for the build up play. He always knows where to move to receive the ball and always be in space. Barcelona are trying to use Frenkie like how Pogba should've been used, and we used Pogba like how Frenkie should be used.

A big problem with Pogba playing deep was he made too many mistakes, his movement was unnatural, he got caught on the ball, etc. This just isn't the case with Frenkie and why hes perfect for it.

Are there any leaks/stories suggesting FDJ is just waiting for the deferred payment settlement before moving to United or are people here just choosing to believe that because it suites our narrative? This is really turning out to be one of the most bizarre transfers in recent history.

Nah mate. We are all deluded and choose to believe our own narrative. And proud of it.

It's a slam dunk.

Why do you assume that when we have a history of it

Mainly due to the past history he has with EDJ….
I reckon we need to hit the plan B button if they are still fekking about by Monday. Otherwise we might get left with McFred again. If you give a deadline then you have to mean it or nobody will take you seriously.

I hear you pal and get your logic assuming the Friday deadline is legit. However we’ve chased players till deadline day before even for new managers and the window doesn’t close till 1st September.

If hanging on a little longer means we get ETH primary targets then so be it IMO but I understand fans concerns with playing the long game.

I’d rather be patient and get his first choice targets even if it means they don’t join our tour etc which some posters are freaking out over.

Sure but you have to suspect a portion of our fee will go to clearing that. Are you saying you believe he's genuinely up for the move but just playing hardball to get his cash?
We don't pay the whole fee up front. Barcelona would need the up front amount for Lewandowski and Raphinha deal. The sum of those 2 deal would be more than the supposed fee they would acquire by selling FdJ. It's reasonable to assume that our upfront payment would be used toward as the upfront payment toward those transfers.

In normal circumstances, they would be required to pay off the wage they still owe to their former players in one go. Barcelona clearly doesn't want to do so now, which results in this.

So... the Dutch Pogba?
This! This! This! Agree 100% - I'm not sure I want a player that is not dreaming about playing here. Maybe I'm wrong and it's only part of business but still - it's just getting a little bit rotten.

Do we think he's made it clear to you "I'll join but not until these fecks give me my money". That genuinely feels very possible to me.

If he was really not interested in moving, he'd have let you guys know not to bother. Right?

It would be ridiculous if that's not the case.
Then again, there's no way of knowing for sure.

To your first point… very possibly.

To your second point… Absolutely. We clearly have some kind of relationship with his agent too, having just signed Malacia. Not a chance that FDJ didn’t come up in those discussions

I think everyone’s life will be easier if we just treat SPORT with the contempt that they deserve right now. They’re going to look very silly in a week when he’s a United player
