Why does the redcafe world cup forum icon\picture look like Southgate holding his head in his hands? Surely you can show a bit more positivity before the competition starts?

Article says the streams will be limited “to the tens of thousands” on a first come first served basis.

Germany vs Italy 2006.

Germans with home advantage, just put out Argentina, favourites to win. Then along come Italy with a superb performance. In extra-time they went for it, they cleary didn't want a penalty shootout against Germany. I've never seen a team so determined to win in extra-time before.

As a neutral (sigh...), I really hope all goes well for all teams with logistics and the local fans.

I know they weren't playing against a top side, but Portugal look quite tasty going forward.

Is this the first time in a World Cup that the hosts are the lowest ranked team in the tournament?

Obviously it'll happen again in 4 years too. Might be the start of a new trend.

I think South Africa were the lowest ranked team in 2010.

Russian ranking has dropped so much because of the lack of competitive games. That said, we've been on a steady decline in rankings since 2012 where we were around the top 10-15. The Capello and Euro 2016 cycles saw the team drop down to the 25-30ish region.

I liked how during the last world cup they had games being shown at around midnight, Being a night owl it was a treat having such high profile games during the night time.

I'm so excited. The World Cup is the pinnacle of football and I even get excited for the shit matches. I hope a few unknown players establish a name for themselves.

It promises to be a shite match, but I may watch a bit of it just because it's the opening game.

Only 5 days to go now

As this is a general discussion thread for the World Cup, can I just ask that since north koreans aren’t allowed to leave their country, anyone know or have any sources as to where their “fans” came from when people went to South Africa in 2010 waving nk flags in the stands?

Can't wait for it to start now, even if the first game I'll be able to catch will probably be Brazil vs Switzerland on Sunday evening :(

What happens when #2 and #3 in a group end up having the same points, goals scored, goals against, and drew to each other?

Are you sure? I thought the WC definitely always had an opening ceremony.
I couldn't remember actually. Our TV station starts coverage at 15:00 BST with their own show, nothing about ceremony.

There's one tomorrow.

Robbie Williams performing .
Cheers. Is it perhaps at some other time? (maybe after the game)

EDIT: Just saw that it starts at 15:30, so my TV probably will cover it. Short though, not like Olympics.
