My 8 year old fecking loved it. She said 10/10. Which I think is a fair review for an 8 year old.
My expectations were low. Expecting a popcorn flick with loads of cgi and somewhat of a guilty pleasure. Instead it’s a deeply moving and brilliant story of struggle against the odds and redemption in the face of adversity, with some Oscar worthy performances. Superbly written and crafted with a nuance that belies the genre.
I’m kidding. It was exactly what it says on the tin. Two massive cgi monsters kicking the shit out of other cgi monsters.
As monster verse movies go, it is one of the weaker entries. The human element was the worst of the series and the cgi was very uneven. Like it was done on a budget. But it was still plenty enjoyable for what it was.
If you’ve got kids, they’ll love it; and you won’t totally hate it either.
