What type of balls do you folks use/prefer? Had a chat with someone the other week and they didn't realize how much a difference the right type of ball makes when it comes to ball striking and consistency.

I use Vice Pro, probably could do Pro Plus however my swing speed isn't consistently that fast since I don't care or need to swing that fast/hard all the time.

Bridgestone Tour B xs. Not just because tiger uses them, but it Performs well on every shot and feels so good off the putter face.

Yep, switched from Pro V1x's to a Bridgestone ball over a decade ago. Much more responsive to me.

I don’t know anyone who’s switched to it that’s switched back. I had the best eagle of my life with a tiger stamped one, takes pride placement on my eagle wall (sad I know)

Plus they represent value for money compared to PV1s.

How big is said eagle wall? Hopefully substantial!

Any aces on that wall or all par 4s or 5s?
I have my two hole in one balls at my office, one was with a callaway so I got that free plaque from them. Two par 4’s (one drivable green, one 136 yard gap wedge downwind) and the others 5’s

@calodo2003 playing Erin hills in May, have you been there?
Have not physically, but I have played the shit out of it on the WGT game that Top Golf put out a few years back. Super wide off the tee, but challenging green complexes. Seems like it could also be quite windy.

I was playing with Bridgestone and they were nice but seems like the Tour B Xs are similar to the Vice Pro I currently use. How's the spin around the greens? My Vokey wedges can only do so much

Trying to play a bit more this year and drive the handicap down, and learn to hit a driver so I can put one of them in the bag.

Playing a course on the top of a hill Sunday so that could be interesting depending on how the wind is!

Spin around the green is great for me, and from bunkers its the best response i've ever had. I find the vokeys to be a bit of a hindrance on wedge shots, I compared them with kirklands and find those spin more and are a little more forgiving. Theres a few videos on the TXG channel where the guys were getting almost 1000 more RPM from kirklands on the 56 degree.

I haven't hit a brand new vice ball, just ones that i've found, perhaps need to give them a try.

Also, Everyone please try the Callaway Paradigm driver, I was averaging 14 yards further carry with the triple diamond model, never see that type of increase.

What shot shape does your driver typically take when you Miss it, and when you hit it well?

I never hit it well but a slice with terrible connection, my natural shot shape is a fade. It’s something to do with my driver swing, for context I tee off with my 4 hybrid and hit it 230-240 yards so it’s not that I can’t hit the ball, something in the mechanics of needing to tee the driver up so far forward in the stance doesn’t sit well with me.

Try this on Sunday a few times. Tee your ball up about the size of your driver head away from the tee marker on the right hand side (left hand side if youre a lefty), tee it a little lower than you normally would and make your only swing thought " keep my right elbow as close to my body as possible on the downswing". You'll probably hook a few to the left but that's easier to correct.

Also, since you're hitting the hybrid that far, you can probably sacrifice a few yards of distance from the driver. Assuming its full length, have someone cut the shaft to 43.5 inches. You'll be amazed how quickly the slice disappears.

PV1s a touch more receptive to short shots. I feel the Bridgestone comes off the putter a bit more quickly & true. I’ve always felt the PV1s were a bit soft on putts. Never played with Vice balls, so I couldn’t help you there.

Thanks for the tips! I need to actually buy a driver as I had such bad times with it in the past I don’t even have one in the back to tempt myself  I’m keeping my eye out for one though and will get down the range.

I also need to invest in longer irons, I’m using my dads standard ones but I’m 6’5” so they don’t feel great having to bend over so far to hit, problem is I want to make sure I’m playing enough before I sink cash into it but also I’ll enjoy it more if the clubs fit! Catch 22

As @calodo2003 will attest to, make sure you pay the little extra money to have irons fitted, especially at your height.

Once you figure out the driver, you will have so much fun given how far you can hit hybrid, and how tall you are. Stick at it :)

Avail yourself of a club fitting session at someplace reputable (Club Champion in the states is quite good). You need to have extended clubs at your height. There’s no way around that.

Putting is what made me play bridgestone. Off a Ping putter its golf ear porn.

Yeah, you must get fitted immediately as the others are saying. It makes a world of difference as someone who is tall as well and you probably need to get re-gripped and understand your lie angle. It's extremely worth it and will definitely knock your number down and you'll get more consistent swing and ball striking.

As a fellow 6'5" enthusiast of digging holes into golf courses, I would very much second @FriedClams' recommendation of a fitting. I love my long irons (my 2 iron is probably my favourite club in the bag) - so having them sized appropriately is vital.

I actually just bought a driver as well - had a couple sessions trying various configurations and it's impossible to understate how helpful it was.

My sim studio is in a golf shop so I get to feck around with all the new gear when it gets released. Didn’t mind the Paradigm at all but I am a sucker for the G430, especially the 3 wood.

I’m a Taylor iron and wedge man but I’m not the biggest fan of stealth. Those woods are simply built for pros and the rest of us mortals just have to live with it. As Ricky S said, perfect launch monitor driver. Looks great and hot. You forget the 6-7 shit shots amongst the 3 crushers

Tell you what though, p770 irons are amazing. If you haven’t tested them, go do it.

Any blade Mizuno is making currently or has made in the past look so incredibly pure.

Isn’t there a rumour that Tigers Nike irons from the mid 2000’s may not have been Nike but actually rebranded Mizunos. Also that his ball was Bridgestone with Nike tick painted on them.
Heard the irons story before, but imo there would be no way Nike would let that happen.

Never heard the ball rumor, but I'd be skeptical of it like the irons story.
