Gaming Hogwarts Legacy (PS5/PC/Switch/Xbox)

I liked FFXIII and never understood all the hate it got. A lot of people seemed to hate it because of how linear it is. People love FFX and that game is literally a straight line until the Calm Lands.

FFXIII has a good combat system as well. I liked how you could change your loadout (or whatever it was called in the game) to change how you dealt with a fight.

The quality (and over-abundant quantity) of gear from chests is a real mess (are they random or something?), and coupled with punitive carrying capacity is beginning to piss me off.

I remember in FFXIII (the best FF) getting single potions in late game chests that you had to fight battles to get to, which was equally annoying and this feels like it's designed the same way.

ban worthy posts.

I stand by it. People had a hate boner for FF during those years. How is the linearity of FFXIII any different to FFX?

The battle system is 100% an improvement on what we had from the past games. I think FFX is definitely better, but I always thought people were just hating on FXIII because it was the cool thing to do. If not, it still gets shit on way too hard.

I don't think I've ever seen a gaming thread where you actually like the game

I've actually been pretty positive about this game, and the sheer fact I'm commenting on it shows I'm playing it. Also, you haven't been reading many gaming threads.

Your views of me are out of date. Add something to what I've said, argue any point I've made or simply grow up and walk away.

Meanwhile I'll continue to play this and enjoy it, but "lolz shocker!!!" I have my own honest opinions on it. More people should try that.

By the way, those of you who have camera issues aren't alone and it isn't you. The system they are using is weird.

Interestingly enough it's not even about the FPS, they've clearly borked the matrix calculations somewhere. It's most evident when flying, the whole thing feels a little off. That's because there's a curious element arguing amongst itself about going where you point vs going where the character is facing vs going where the camera faces. The fact there's no free look when you are flying speaks to the weirdness of it all.

Funnily enough, that's the system the Infinity games used to keep the focus on where they wanted the kids to go

Shit characters, dumb story with way too many confusing rubbish and while FF10 was also linear, it wasn't a corridor simulator by any means.

Other than that, I also enjoyed 13.

My girlfriend has been playing it for a few days, I've given it a try as well today.
My opinion: hogwart is quite boring, childish climate, too many colors, too much dialogues (and it doesn't seem like your choices have any impact on the story).

However, what happens outside the castle is quite fun, I also like the combat. Will not spend too much time in it (RDR2 is still king), but I enjoy watching it in the background.

Wow

I rate 5 very highly indeed. But some clown was talking about the very best, and that's 6. I'll possibly accept 9. All other entrants fall to the levels below.
Oh yes definitely 6. I very recently replayed it. I had never before realized you could save Cid by quickly feeding him only the fast fish.

I fell through a level earlier after glitching in the honeydukes tunnel and ended up in no man's land couldn't bring up any maps or anything it was just a massive void I could run about in and cast spells etc but couldn't get out of, had to restart the game

It's annoying you have to keep chopping and changing the spells attached to your quick select buttons

Also, those puzzles with the animals round the door with the corresponding triangles and spinner with them on are bugging me, I can't work them out though am probably trying to be too clever

The world is massive I'm spending lots of time exploring hogwarts, I also thought the outside map was only Hogsmede, just discovered that's not the case and it's huge!

Still waiting to get to the point where I can catch beasts

1st complaints gets sorted when you unlock talent tree.

2nd complaint, each picture holds the value between 0-9 and you need to solve 2 equations. Each pics value are on the side from the left.

I never liked 5. 6 was probably the best of the pixel art FFs judged as a whole but it's been 20 years since I played it and when I've tried [the pixel art ones] since, both re-releases and emulation, I couldn't get going. IX beats its two PS1 brethren for sure.

I'm not going to defend XIII any further :(

If you mean count assigning each value starting from the left going clockwise this doesn't work for me. I'm pretty sure I started from 0 and 1 as well - what was I doing wrong?

I've ended up brute forcing them (only takes seconds the majority of the time on the ones I've bothered with as the ? and ?? were almost 'next' to each other).

You start from 0 and go left to right.

Also there's a place in Hogwarts that you've both missed (and has some great gear early on) that explains this and gives you a sheet of paper with the codes. It's up in one of the roof bits.

I'm sure it didn't work but hey ho. I'm also sure there's a Brazilian other things I've missed. I'm also at the end on PS5, am going to pick it up on Steam I think (and lug my PC into the lounge) and have another run through. I don't fancy 100%-ing it on any platform, but do want to play through it again more thoroughly.

anyone interested in a discounted Xbox S/X key code? I ordered the wrong platform and CDKeys are shite at refunds.

They literally gave me a refund for the exact same issue. Have you tried contacting them? Just don't open the code and you'll be fine.

9? WTF

An old purist like you should say that it is between 6 and 4.

You can't rank 4 above 6 if you ask me. They're similar, but 6 is better at everything. Well I guess some people prefer 4's story I suppose (I don't).

Maths is hard

Yeah there's an impressive amount to discover. From what I've played of the OW (just starting flying), I'd have preferred a full game in a much bigger Hogwarts then have the sequel expand. A bit like Arkham Asylum into City.

Say there is:
2
Unicorn (1) - ?

Then you need 1+1, another unicorn.

Say it is:
18
hydra (9) - ??
Then the other 9 needs to be 9 to make up 18, so another hydra.

Both answers need to be correct on the board before the door opens.

Agree, 6 is essentially 4++. I know that old gamers have 4 vs 6 as the debate for the greatest FF game (obviously the real debate is 6 vs 7, as we all know).

8 surely a candidate?

Re Hogwarts legacy - played about 3 hours, not blown away, but decently fun

That could well be my problem, as I was starting at 1!

FF6 is the only FF game I got bored and gave up on. But I can accept that's a character flaw on my part.

I took the inclusion of a trans woman as the game creators trying to soften JK's image, rather than a middle finger to her. But I guess I was wrong as I'm the only one who saw it that way.

Loving the game, but I really want a broom. Running to the high street and back is getting a bit excessive.

Just done my first flight class, do I get a broom soon?

Fast travel?
Yes you should be able to buy one now.

Please please don't tell me i've been able to do that this whole time

Yep! They show you quite early on that patronising woman who's statue is on the wall is the floo network ports which is fast travel stations. Think they even make you do it when you first arrive

go to the map and click on a flag on an area, and it'll bring up the green flames. Click on the one you want to teleport

One of my complaints was that it's unlocked too early/immediately and it becomes easier to skip stuff.
D'oh!

Thanks all. Will give it a try when I play it tonight

I'm reaching endgame now and it's been a blast. I thought I would've finished today but:
there was a long time when no new MQ lines popped and I'm not sure why. I didn't do anything story-related in between, just had like two hours of nothing... a bug?

Though I'm also amazed at how quickly @Snowjoe got through it... I'm at 33 hours and have barely touched side content.

I still have gripes about some of its systems - money regardless of the good chests is uneven, but it's not been a massive problem (broom upgrades aside) and the fecking inventory management. I know I could have done more MT's but late game, loot is dropping like fecking Borderlands and.. yeah.

Well that took me its sweet, sweet time. Finished main quest, the last fight I had to redo lots (on normal difficulty as well). All my prior whining aside I enjoyed it. By a mile the best HP game obvioulsy, but a good game in its own right. Going to take a day off and then either start again on PC or tidy up* on PS5

*this is bollocks, I've barely touched the map
