For me the fact that Southgate uses a back 3 but plays Kalvin Phillips in midfield shows me that this manager isnt up for the job.
You cant play a back 3 with 3 full defenders anymore as a big team because it's too defensive. You need a CDM like Kalvin Phillips or Rice who drops in to a defensive duo partnership to create a back 3 when under pressure only.

I'm really worried because im quite excited by this next generation of English players - they are a bit more technical than being physical as some of the previous generations have been.
I just hope the english FA doesnt look at southgate as some young manager who can learn & grow with the team - because I dont see it at all.
