If we ain`t getting Sancho VDB+Grealish with Lingard and Pereira out is smart business. It at least strengthens our attacking depth and ensures we keep playing Marcus, Martial and Greenwood(with the privelege of having solid options to rotate with) who have the potential to be our Mane, Salah and Firmino.
Add a LCB once Smalling goes and our window is still good

Would love him at United. His foul winning ability alone would mean 5-10 extra goals for United. Has the X factor and the desire to work hard.

Or maybe we`re moving on from Sancho
We could be, still going from Lingard, Mata and Pereira to Bruno, DVB and Grealish in eight months will still be a huge improvement. Grealish is playing from the left at Villa so that's LW covered and I am sure he would be miles ahead of anything we can put on the right in Greenwood's absence.

always thought it would be two out of DVB, Grealish and Sancho. So after DVB, if we can't (think we will) get Sancho, then think it will be Grealish.
But then we are just overly strong in CAM and LW and Greenwood has no one to rotate with. Hope you’re right and we get Sancho though.

Surely we don’t get DVB and Grealish?
Wouldnt think so. We obviously have a pot of money and if getting DVB at half the price of Grealish because we can use that money towards other things cough cough hint Sancho. Then as others have said it is a no brainer. I am not so sold on Grealish either

For our system, don't think we need a specialist RW and actually Sancho isn't one either. We just need a clever quality attacking player which Grealish is and I think he can do equally good job in all three positions behind Martial.

I think Grealish is a player who can probably play in a variety of positions. Wide left, wide right, and a left or right sided midfield position. He is very creative, can score goals with either foot, and would be a good addition to the squad, especially if Sancho isn't signed, which looks likely now. If rumours are true (I think 90% of media stories have no basis, but some persist, like the Grealish one), then parting with players like Romero, Dalot and Lingard to help finance the deal makes sense to me. No one really knows what impact signing Grealish would have, it could be a Bruno impact, or not.

Yeah definitely strikes me as someone who believes in himself but whoever he plays for I get the impression that the England call up could be tricky as it really looks like Gareth just doesn't fancy him for some reason
then he has to work even harder and show his abilities. Even better for whoever he signs for.

also, gareth won’t be england manager forever

Where he definitely appears to be superior to VDB is his quality on the ball. His technical qualities are superb and he's very very hard to get the ball off of.

The problem with Grealish and Maddison is that their clubs will price them out of a move to a better club. Fair enough, their clubs have the right to get the best deal for themselves but If I were Grealish, Maddison or any player with high potential at these 'lesser' clubs, I would be looking to put a fair release clause in my contract so that I can get that dream move.

maddison has literally just signed a new contract with Leicester so he must be perfectly happy at a ‘lesser’ club.

I would understand Leicester wanting to cash in on Maddison as they have a "good" roster and could replace him with that cash, but Aston Villa makes not much sense to me. If I were Aston Villa, wanting to stay in the PL, I would certainly look for players in return for Grealish (instead of just 60Mmax/nobody is paying 80M for Jack at 24 years old with zero England selection

Jones + Romero+ Dalot+ Peirera + some cash for Grealish would make sense to me.

Have you ever seen a deal like that before? 4 players plus cash?

Grealish must force the issue himself if he wants to play top level football. He has done enough for Villa and at 25 he should be making a big career move. Tell Villa to be realistic in their valuation. 100 per cent guaranteed if he was playing for a big team, Southgate would have selected him. All this I love Villa talk means nothing in football. They are also likely to be relegated this season.

Yeah he has to push for it unless of course he is genuinely believing that Villa are going places. Apparently his Skybet odds are in from 8/11 to 1/3 but we know that means nothing

I think we were hoping for Grealish price would drop and Dortmund would play ball on better terms. Signing VDB at half the price of Grealish means we can prioritise Sancho. Think this one died on the relegation escape alone.

May be dead for this summer but I think we'll retain an interest in him when Villa do inevitably drop and even with Van De Beek I think there's still a place in our squad for Grealish

Good player but not worth the price Villa wanted, I think VDB is the better signing even if the price for Grealish was the same.

Poor guy. But if Pogba decides to leave the nest next summer we could be back for him. Let’s hope he keeps performing. Really like Jack.

With Van de Beek all but done I think we can end the speculation on Grealish.

Hopefully if we can get VDB over the line that will be the end of the Grealish speculation. VDB is a far, far superior player with proven pedigree at International and Champions League level. Think he'll be great for us adding extra technical ability, workrate, and goals. Grealish would be a ridiculous gamble at the prices quoted without any proven performance at the top level. Personally I really dont see that he has the physical attributes to succeed consistently at a top club. If we want to be a top 8 european side again we need to buy proven elite players not gamble £80M on questionable potential.

Hmmm no we don't need to! Club are interested in him and he'd be a wonderful addition, we do not have anyone in our starting 11 with his press resistance and ability to carry the ball. If not this summer then I hope we revisit a deal when Villa eventually fall. He's certainly not worth 70 million plus in the current market.

He is not as good as Pogba as 8, he is not as good as Bruno at that 8/10 hybrid role, he is not as good as Rashford on the left wing, he is not as good as Greenwood on the right wing.

Would have made sense as a squad player for 30-40m, but now that we got Donny, this is not happening anymore (and rightly so). The priority for this summer now should be Sancho, while on the next summer we should check on improving the defense and a Matic long-term replacement. Grealish is never gonna play for us.

Damn. I preferred Grealish.
For depth I think Van de Beek is more useful for us at this point since he can play CM, CAM and even CDM against low block teams.

While Grealish, who is arguable more talented ia creativity, can only play as CAM and LW.

Yeah I mean this window, I dont think we'll spend anywhere near 70M or another midfielder after VdB. Maybe is Villa gets relegated next year.

I actually feel sorry for Grealish. Reports suggested he was desperate to sign for Utd.

Unfortunately he's the victim of being english. He's been priced out of a dream move just because of "british tax". A lot of english players will have the same problem in the future too. In Maguires case we were happy to pay the british tax due to lack of alternatives, especially once De Ligt went to Juve.
