Jack Wilshere | I should be in the England squad

Wilshere is nowhere near top class but then again I never bracketed Gascoigne as proper top class either. Consistency, application and mentality are all needed to top up the ability to be fleet footed and become a genuine top class talent.

Gascoigne never hit that note anything like enough and Wilshere is light years away. I'd say he's better than Biurnemouth to be fair but he's no better than a Southampton or Everton type player.
At the end of the day if his injury record was spotless he still probably wouldn't get picked ahead of the likes of ozil, Ramsey and xhaka. I don't see him having a future at arsenal.

Wilshere was right in that case Januzaj getting to play for England would be a complete joke.
Yes it's just you, most football fans first memory of him wouldn't be years after he ripped Barce apart. But anyway imo it's a farce having people represent a country that they haven't grown up in. So Mo Farrah and Rose, grew up and went to school in Britain so fair play to them. Pietersen and Januzaj came to England after living all their lives in other countries and fail the accent test. It's like the farce of American sprinters with strong American accents having lived there all of their life using a British passport to compete for Britain because they couldn't get in the American team, a complete joke.
I wasn't really serious about the first thing I remember part :p

But yeah KP's parents still live in SA which is even worse

So people can never truly emigrate or immigrate? They can only hope for their children - like John Barnes and Zinedine Zidane - to be worthy of their new countries?

I would have liked to see him abroad (like that has happened with Hart) but if his options were AS Roma (Arsenal have rejected their offer and they have anyway a strong midfield) and AC Milan (Who knows if Montella is still their coach in a few weeks) then Bournemouth were his best option.

So how does one play in center midfield for 68 minutes and only have 10 passes in the entire game? Didn't see the game, but thats a proper invisible performance

City battered them, mind you he was poor but having 10 passes at Etihad when City is in this kind of form will be nothing unusual under Pep, specially for midfielders that play for mid table clubs.

The only people on Bournemouth that had less passes then Wilshere were the players who were subbed in (and Ibe because he came on at half time). Dan Gosling came on for him and had 5 passes more... So like, obviously players won't have as much passes against City, but everyone on Bournemouth was more involved in the game then he was (other center mids having 30 passes each basically)

He was very poor but there is a logical explanation why Gosling had 5 passes more, City didnt push as much as before...would be interesting to see number of passes per player in 70 minutes + players like Surman and Arter cant hurt you so there was much more focus on Wilshere then on them.

Not so sure. Here are the number of passes made by each player who started at the Etihad so far this season (Bournemouth are currently 16th, West Ham 17th and Sunderland 19th so based on this season they're all in the same area of the table).

Simon Francis (Bournemouth) - 48
Mark Noble (West Ham United) - 36
Steve Cook (Bournemouth) - 35
Charlie Daniels (Bournemouth) - 34
Harry Arter (Bournemouth) - 31
James Colins (West Ham United) - 31
Andrew Surman (Bournemouth) - 31
Adam Smith (Bournemouth) - 30
Michail Antonio (West Ham United) - 26
Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham United) - 25
Artur Boruc (Bournemouth) - 24
Fabio Borini (Sunderland) - 22
Arthur Masuaku (West Ham United) - 22
Cheikhou Kouyate (West Ham United) - 21
Adrian (West Ham United) - 20
Josh King (Bournemouth) - 19
Lamine Kone (Sunderland) - 19
John O'Shea (Sunderland) - 19
Vito Mannone (Sunderland) - 18
Winston Reid (West Ham United) - 18 (subbed at 78')
Junior Stanislas (Bournemouth) - 18 (subbed at 74')
Patrick van Aanholt (Sunderland) - 18
Younes Kaboul (Sunderland) - 17
Donald Love (Sunderland) - 16
Jack Rodwell (Sunderland) - 15
Ashley Fletcher (West Ham United) - 14
Duncan Watmore (Sunderland) - 11 (subbed at 64')
Enner Valencia (West Ham United) - 10 (subbed at 60')
Jack Wilshere (Bournemouth) - 10 (subbed at 68')
Jordon Ibe (Bournemouth) - 9 (subbed at 46')
Gokhan Tore (West Ham United) - 9 (subbed at 46')
Lynden Gooch (Sunderland) - 8 (subbed at 65')
Jermain Defoe (Sunderland) - 4 (subbed at 83')

And passes for the subs:

Dan Gosling (Bournemouth) - 15 (subbed on at 68')
Sam Byram (West Ham United) - 12 (subbed on at 46')
Wahbi Khazri (Sunderland) - 7 (subbed on at 65')
Manuel Lanzini (West Ham United) - 7 (subbed on at 60')
Jonathan Calleri (West Ham United) - 6 (subbed on at 78')
Max Gradel (Bournemouth) - 4 (subbed on at 74')
Adnan Januzaj (Sunderland) - 3 (subbed on at 64')
Patrick McNair (Sunderland) - 3 (subbed on at 83')
Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) - 3 (subbed on at 46')

Defoe's passing stats are something. The player who came on for him almost made as many in a tenth of the time

Wilshere's partner Arter made way more passes and as bosnian said his replacement made more passes too.

Damned, Damien, you really did get out of your way to prove your point there. A somewhat valid one though, i guess.

Poor Jack Wilshere, he's got a long season before him. Might as well get injured now and the hell with it. I know that's what i'd do.
But then again, maybe that's why i'm not a professional athlete.

 Thanks... Pretty impressive how badly those stats are for Wilshere considering his whole role relies on passing the ball around and controlling the game (or starting to)

What's up with Scrappy? Not only is he getting benched, he's not even first choice midfield option from the bench.

Ive honestly never seen what any of the hype around him was about. His career has been a disaster - unlucky with injuries of course but he is and always was the new Joe Cole but worse.

But he looked like a world beater vs Barcelona once.

Joe Cole was quality for a few years. Wilshere was good for a few months and had a good game against Barca and people went mental over him.

I believe he is just a victim of the system change. While he was injured, things changed. After Wilson got injured, King started getting played more centrally and has excelled in that role. Afobe- King partnership has really helped them in the last few games. Wilshere isn't really a wide player. so the only position remaining is in the midfield two. I think Howe feels that Arter-Surman (Gosling) gives them more protection to play two up front.

I disagree. When he first broke into the first team he looked like a special talent. But he's regressed and the injuries look to have ruined his career.

That quick burst of pace to glide past players in midfield was a key part of his game that made him special. He doesn't have that anymore (likely due to injuries).

It's down to injuries and lifestyle.

He was no doubt a hugely gifted player as a teenager. His debut season was outstanding for an 18 year old.

Come one now. He's young and learning and once he gets over his injuries he'll be bursting.

Still a hugely talented footballer, just needs a team that can keep him fit and use him as part of a midfield 3. His performance vs Chelsea earlier this season showed he still has it. Would be a great signings for Everton if they ever hope to catch up.

It's either down to the injuries, or he was never that special in the first place and just matured early as a player. Most likely a combination of both

Still see no reason why he shouldn't become a very good player

True. Excellent comment. To me he lacked a professional attitude.

This kid is a waste of space, always injured, not very good anyway and overhyped.

Had the potential to be something at one point, but its time to cut our losses with him before it turns into a diaby where he's just taking a squad place and eating up wages that can be spent elsewhere.

I can't stand the prick. He is still living off the reputation of that one game against Barcelona about 7 years ago.

If hes truly as world class as he thinks he is, he should go abroad to a team like AC Milan, Roma or somewhere. I heard they were interested in the summer and he opted for the safe option in Bournemouth. That puts a massive stain on his CV. He wants to be a big player, he needs to start acting like one. Go abroad and take the plunge.
