Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

We're in real danger of messing up another transfer window here, you can just see it. Too many aspects not agreed upon and too many involved from both sides. If it's true that we do still harbour hopes of signing him then something needs to give soon or else you could see us quite easily ending up with nothing this summer, or perhaps a 'Dan James' type signing at the most.

Not to bring this up (but I am), but Mourinho didn't get that backing and it really stalled everything, a lost season. There is no alternative to Sancho, everything else is a downgrade, he is in every aspect the perfect signing at the perfect time for United. It has to be done!!

So Raiola, at the time Pogba signed for Juventus from United, was compensated for the deal by being given a certain percentage of any future transfer...But yeah, £16mill is his agent fee and the rest is compensation from Juventus

From United to Juventus. And yes 16m was his agent fee from the transfer to United.

Yep, but if it wasn't obvious before, it is now that they just may not be interested in becoming a dominant side. Either that, or they really just lack the know how to get us back to the top. We've spent a feck load of our own money and have been largely shit for 10 years now. Surely by now, one of them has considered the possibility that their approach just isn't working?

Increasing the wage bill by +100m and still purchasing players for high fees says otherwise. United isn't an endless pit of money.

IIRC Juventus were supposed to pay them through signing bonuses with the future contract renewals.

Well, the point was that the payment was only triggered by the move away from Juve, but enough of all that.

It does seem possible that Sanchos transfer from City to BVB included a similar clause concerning the agent fee in case of a later transfer to a "big" club, doesn't it?

Agreed, with our transfer record under him, I wouldn't be surprised either.

I know we say we have signed well but its not like they were genius signings?

AWB for £50m - rip off should have been lower fee
Maguire £80m - rip off should have been lower
Bruno £50m - only signed him because we were forced, could have done the deal 6 months before

even deals prior to that
Fred £50m - rip off
Sanchez - less we speak the better

So we are signing the players, maybe the right players but its not like we are doing well in the market. Any of us could have negotiated those deals because that was the asking price.
We are still stung with the Manchester United surcharge, clubs take us for a ride. I think that will last for a while until we are back challenging again and making more shrewd moves in the market, like Bayern and their loans etc. Looking at their squad last night with Neuer being their most expensive player in the starting 11 was unbelievable.

Clubs seem to know we approach the market with one player per position in mind, they know they can rip us off basically. We also need to plan ahead and lay the groundwork for moves more so than we do currently.

Maybe I don't know but 50m from United would be very surprising which is what has been reported.

Most of the time that fee would come from the selling club rather than the buying. Juve ended up having to pay that from their profit also.

If Dortmund think selling for 120m plus 50m agent fees they’re having a laugh

Lots of people criticising the club's approach here. I think we should judge the transfer window when it shuts, not now. I'm as keen as anyone to get Sancho and other additions but this is a bizarre market with no real precedent.

I think IF the club's approach is to be patient and try and take advantage of the decent amount of cash we have to spend (relative to everyone else) and get as much improvement to the squad as we can then that seems eminently sensible to me.

However, if we're simply scrimping and fail to make the necessary improvements to the squad then that's a total joke.

TL:DR - let's see what the squad is like at close of window fingers crossed it's got more Jadon than Jesse

This is the muppet thread. We have to react to every little bit of fake news!

Hell yeah but I'm just trying to stay calm and believe (hope) there's a strategy.

I want the Kermit gif to come out as much as anyone though!

The strategy is like any negotiation.

Try to pay the lowest possible fee. We all know Sancho wants to leave. We all know that dortmund in all liklihood have promised to sell him this summer. So if we're going to have to pay the full 108m, why not wait till the end of summer?

We technically are in no rush as we won't barely even have a pre-season this year. We might as well let Sancho have a proper pre-season at dortmund before we buy him a few days before deadline ;)

Yeah and ultimately I think that's how I see it playing out. I think we'll get him in October.... which means this thread has got some way to run

They might have promised him to leave, but they aren't legally bound to it. If Dortmund can't find a way to invest the money due to time constraints, they won't take it.

I think they'd be more than happy to sit on the cash in these times.

They already spent 30m on a 16 year old without taking into account his absurd salary.

We shall see though. I wouldn't put it past us to target alternatives and wait till next summer before trying to sign Jadon. Not a bad idea either. Lets see if he can develop and improve upon his success this season before we splash out a british transfer record for a 20 year old.

Woodward called this place Disney Land. Disney Land for Christ sake, we're not even centre parcs.

If the Glazers are active in the transfer that most likely means we are pursuing the player. It would be a completely different situation if they were blocking the move I think they would have distanced themselves from the headlines and likely left it in the hands of Judge / Woodward. As if fan perception wasn't already bad enough.

Already one of the worst sagas. Fecking boring. Journos have even got tired of making shit up.

Fecking hell can we stop with the 50m agent fee bullshit. His agents are relative newbies in the industry and would most likely be ecstatic with a 1m commission. They have no business being compared to Raiola. In fact I would wager that a part of the reason why Dortmund want intermediaries in this deal is that they don’t trust his agents to help carry through a transfer of this size on their own.

Why this deal hasn’t happened yet is because, at the moment, we don’t want to pay what Dortmund are asking in the way they’re asking.

We sadly have some very naive fans on here who are totally oblivious to the financial issues in the world. No doubt still live with mummy and daddy and have no clue whats going on. Wait till you get a real job and a mortgage boys. You will die a bit inside.

We've never spent north of £90m on a player before. And spending 120m Euros, plus agent fee, plus huge wages on a single player would be hard to get done without a bleeding pandemic that's costing us over £100m. Covid has just made this transfer 100 times harder to get done.

If the stories are true that it's 120m + huge agent fee + big wages then I can see why we are steering clear. Nobody can meet those demands right now. Not even us.

Oh no, Glaston's back.

While I agree that fans’ desperation has clouded their view of the current financial world, there is a huge amount of conjecture and misinformation over this transfer. Wages have been agreed so the negotiation is really over the fee. There is no suggestion at this stage that we are steering clear.

I laughed at how condescending you are.

If we can't afford it, we can't afford it. Without the pandemic I don't think it would have been an issue and would have probably been signed by now.

Which other club is going to be buying a 120m Euro rated player this summer?

I don't know but Havertz alleged transfer negotiations have been as long.

You don't know wages have been agreed at all. Romano has said they have but he's also got a few other things wrong. He said we'd signed some Serbian kid the other day which is nonsense it seems. He said Silva was Lazio bound and not no idea Sociedad were even in for him. He also didn't know Sancho's contract had been extended till 2023. He retweeted somebody saying the sancho deal was close also. It clearly isn't.

In saying that I don't think wages are holding this up at all. It's the fee and agent fee. But he doesn't know the wages are agreed. He's assuming Utd can agree to pay Jadon Sancho which is pretty easy assumption to make isn't it? He's hardly going out on a limb with that statement is he?

A week before Bruno signed, there were reports in media that deal is off because of Joel. So, with that in mind, by next Friday Sancho should be ours.
