Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

I like them. The guy on from the Athletic has good ties with Ole. He even explained why we cant sell our fringe players (mentioned Jones specifically) because of their wages. What fecking bad management of our club. We can all name the players who should be kicked out. Jones, Rojo, Lingard, Perriera, Mata.
Rojo/Romero/Lingard/Mata only have a year left on their deals. Their wages shouldn’t be that much of an issue. I’d hope Jones’ contract is very much incentive based based on appearances but who knows with us!

I don’t think crowds will be back fully by January so that transfer window may be far more active than normal. I’m coming round to the idea we get rid of Pereira, Lingard, Rojo, smalling, Romero and Dalot this summer and only add Sancho to DVB. Net spend of around 70m and maybe wait until January where I do think there’ll be some proper bargains as the COVID impact starts to really hit. Ighalo’s wages will be gone then too. We may be able to get the 3/4 additional to challenge we need and spend nothing in the summer. It would also give everyone a chance to settle in before a title charge in 21/22 in front of packed stadiums!

doesn't mean anything in terms of what could still happen, but that door is now wide open to "well we couldn't get value in the market"
He's talked like that all summer though. Can't get badly quoted later if you don't promise or state things in the media.

Maybe Ole has been told it's looking unlikely so he's playing it down but even with Fernandes he did the same.

No manager in the world is going to go out on a limb and say “we’re going to sign that guy”. Disaster waiting to happen.

You’re just asking Dortmund to turn around and say feck off by talking up the possibility of anything happening.

Yep, the press would destroy him if he promises 2-3 transfers by the end of the window and he got nothing.

I hope for his sake Woodward/Judge know what they're doing and can give him the extra players we need - but i'm not feeling so confident right now.

If United don't bid £108 million this summer, would you agree that nobody will bid £108 million next summer either.

The real question is how much could Dortmund get next summer and would that bid plus 1 extra season with Sancho make it more profitable for them than selling this summer.

It’s a transfer that will only happen this summer if United overpay imo.

Hypothetical...say we dont sign Sancho and Greenwood absolutely shines and becomes irreplaceable.
Do we still go after Sancho next year and if yes do we play him at right wing or do we look at him as a replacement for Rashford on the left wing? Or we just decide to move Greenwood in the middle and sell Martial?
Asking because I feel while both Rashford and Martial are good players, Greenwood will be a real superstar and a tier above both.

So if this is the scenario what happens next year? Do we just decide..you know what, maybe we dont even need Sancho? Actually see this scenario as very likely.

So we have some persons on twitter complaining that Chelsea can afford to spend £200+ million and we can't...ah yeah, let's compare Chelsea to other clubs - that seems clever

Then we have some persons claiming that if Newcastle can sign 2 players in 3 days - so should we. And yes - if we wanted a Jeff Hedrick - I am sure we could sign 2 players in 3 days as well :)

Oh the intelligence of football fans.

I think they are happy to have him one more season and then look for a bidding war next summer. Even if they don't get the bidding war they'll still get £90 million for him with 2 years still on his contract IMO.

The signing of Sancho is more about increasing the quality and depth of the squad. Take any of the three you mentioned away and we are fecked. 3 players cannot play a whole season. Signing Sancho allows rotation without taking such a drop in quality

For me I keep all 4. Play any three on a given day depending upon situation and sub the one who isn't being effective. From what I see all 4 are capable of playing any position across front line.

We look elsewhere to spend the money, find a backup for Mason. If Mason tears it apart next year and fans still call for Sancho then its down to stubborness imo. You couldn't keep them happy. Fans point to Citys depth but theyve lost Sane and Sancho himself ffs. Bernardo will kick up a fuss soon imo.
Imagine having 108m and spending it on a star who plays in Masons position after that, ignoring LB, CB etc. It would be ridiculous.

The thing is when you have 4 players of that quality they all want to start, they are not interested in being rotation players. It just doesnt work like that. No team can have absolute top level players and start them off the bench. Thats what the likes of David Brooks are for.
If we do sign Sancho eventually one of them would need to go.

If he has a good season and with COVID under control he will probably be sold for 160m next year.

Exactly. Imagine if Martial gets another long lay off, or Rashford’s back problem flares up again. We are totally screwed. The replacements that will come in are barely PL standard.

Just pay the fecking money you tight bunch of ginger goblins!

That's ridiculous. 4 first team players for 3 spots? That's just standard at this level. It's not a first 11. It's a first 16. Injury, form, fitness, many competitions, none of them have to be a rotation player. The others are back up because they are not good enough. Here these 4 will play 40-45 games each with important games in that. Rashford could have used starting off the bench for a spell last season but we didn't have a good enough player to actually bench him.

Couldnt disagree with you anymore. It's about how those players are managed and keeping them happy. SAF had no issues when we had Cole Yorke Sheringham and Ole competing for 2 place.

Yes no issue at all. Would be very easy to keep those 4 players happy.

Rashford had a great season, it could have done with someone else to stand in for him after lockdown as he clearly wasn’t fit. Martial was injured for months, and Greenwood is only 18 and won’t be/ shouldn’t be playing every game at his age.

Threads are also old the moment they're posted, too! So, rather than having one megathread with 1,000 pages, we really should have 1,000 threads with 1 page.
Who would win in a fight ‘ one megathread with 1,000 pages, we really should have 1,000 threads with 1 page.’?

There is no such thing as first 16 when talking about elite level players. They all want to start and play in every big match.

All of the players mentioned are better than Ole. I agree with @HowYouDoin . Greenwood, Martial, Rashford, and Sancho are all young, will expect to be starters, and play in important matches. This isn't FIFA or FM. You can't amass a team of young star players and expect them to be fine jostling for playing time. Eventually one of them will want to leave.
