Liz Truss for me

Not many would go for her. But there’s just something about her. I’d go absolutely wild on her.

A disturbed musical with Gaga could be quite spectacular if they get it right. Saying that, I thought the first Joker was a bit meh and I generally fecking hate musicals.

How can anyone look at that date format and think "yeah, that makes sense"?

Can't say I'm excited, this should have been a one and done film, and now it's a franchise that's gonna get milked.

The Anti-marvel lot will lap it up as some deep artistic take when realistically it'll probably be American psycho with a different skin.
I trust the creators. They did a great job with the first, not being particularly rushed.

btw the first film was just a remake of the king of comedy.. nothing ground breaking at all

I really liked the first film but i can't really understand the snobbery against some of its themes or the fact that it's unoriginal. It was so obvious about it's influences and I don't think it was ever really meant to be ground-breaking. It was just a basic film and a pretty good one at that. The music in particular was fantastic.

Apart from the fact I didn't really enjoy or think much of the first film, and also hate all musicals that aren't Muppets Christmas Carol, this could be ok

Yeah, first film was decent. In terms of comic book/superhero films it’s probably one of the very best. Streets ahead of almost everything that came out of the MCU, that’s for sure.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
The first one was decent for sure, but not the masterpiece that some made it out to be.

As long as this one is decent too, that's enough for me. I suspect those who thought the first was a masterpiece are either going to think this one is a masterpiece too, or that it's complete garbage (probably because of woke or whatever).

I agree. I enjoyed the first one as it competently made / put together and I love the Joker as a character. But it was grossly overrated by simply being as self indulgent as it was. And that includes Phoenix’s performance which had no subtlety whatsoever. The whole thing while being good has such a “pick me Oscars!” style to it.

Really thought the first one would be a stand-alone. Based on the trailer it seems like more of the same.

Nope, still doesn't do anything for me.
This feels very much like the first where it deals with these themes of exclusion and mental health in such a hamfisted manner where in lacks in substance and subtleness.

Every character, outside of the Joker, was so poorly developed in the first and the references to far better films made my eyes roll.

Come on now. It’s not as though Hollywood has a reputation for dealing with those issues in a nuanced way! I thought the mental health/exclusion stuff was really well done. And loved the way they blurred the lines between the slippery grasp on reality you get from a psychotic illness and a supervillain origin story. I really don’t get the extreme criticism of a film that is head and shoulders above every other film in its genre (and it is a genre movie) I guess it’s because it became such an anthem for the incels, so the culture war meant us left leaning liberals were duty bound to pick apart their masterpiece (also because Todd Philips is such a douche)

It's a superhero movie mate...
