Just how bad were we today?

Worst iv ever seen us play. Should of lost handsomely. Against a side also ravaged by injuries in dreadful form.

We were better when we lost there 4-0 last season.

I found our performance almost hilarious. The way our guys strolled around the park with no care in the world was comically bad. This game alone was a sackable offense but nothing will be done. This is were it's not funny anymore. The guy should be gone tomorrow morning latest.

With regard to the OP: I'm finding it hart to think of a worse performance all things considered.

I think this was the worst performance I've ever seen from United. Properly embarassing stuff.

Should do what Tottenham did when the got battered and get the players (and ETH and co) to refund the fans who travelled to watch that farce

I know we didn't rack up a cricket score like they did but that was only because they hit the post 4 times and got a marginal offside

Disgusting performance and up there with the worst this season, trouble is there's been so many shockers in recent times each time you think it can't possibly get any worse and then somehow they manage it

Sackable offence imo, but the Liverpool game will give him enough credit in the bank to survive. Would have sacked him before this I hasten to add. I don't want Southgate however so those rumours worry me.

In plethora of bad personal performances I would just say that playing Rashford and AWB on same side should be sackable offense. A tragicomical duet offering nothing going forward and having zero defensive awareness and nonexistent work rate and urgency. Sell both as soon as possible.

How is our manager in a job still? I would suggest that pretty much any top side would have already sent him packing. It's a matter of principle and showing that this level isn't acceptable.

How many competitive games have we played since Fergie retired? 500-600?

Surely this game is among the worst 5%.

What got me was that I thought Brentford didn't play well compared to say Fulham the other week against us. Maybe others will disagree but I thought Fulham who are obviosuly no great shakes had better movement, crisper passing etc. yet Brentford had more shots, more xG, more touches in our box than they did. Alright, we got a better result today but in every other metric we were destroyed by a team that I didn't think played at the top of their own capabailities.

That was shockingly bad.

Worth noting that in the 4-0 win last year they only had 33% of the ball and 13 shots (to our 15). We’ve gone so badly backwards under ETH it’s hard to know how it’s gone so badly wrong. The performances are generally at the level of the last few weeks under Ole and it’s been like that for nearly an entire season.

It was bad. And it probably ensured we won't overhaul Spurs or Villa. I'm still for keeping ETH but eventually he will pay the price for days like today.

It’s like us and Chelsea are in a competition to be the biggest numpties. We probably should be around where they are in the league to be honest based on performances.
Only thing we have going for us is that spark in Fergie time to defy the odds.

Just so, so bad. Not a single player can come out of that with any credit. Mainoo and dalot were the best if a terrible bunch. And mount scored with his only touch.
Couldn't pass, rashford was bored, awb forgot he was a footballer and the less said about Bruno and mctom the better.

There is no excuse to have set this team up this way get trounced in the first half and then come out EXACTLY the same way in the second. Just no idea at all. They had 3 corners in the first 2 mins of the second half and it still took him until the 60th minute to change anything.

Just out of interest what is making you want to keep ETH?

Is it just you don't want Southgate?

Its the simple fact that any team can make us look like relegation fodder or worse. The way we approach matches against teams of this level is utterly shameful and inexcusable. How on earth can this be the best we're capable of. I think a lot of this squad needs to go for various reasons, but I know they're capable of better than displays like tonight, yet it seems to be the norm for this group.

Madrid, Bayern, Barca all would’ve hounded him out back in December.

Can you imagine this performance for Madrid against Alaves? The fans and Marca would have the white handkerchiefs out baying for blood.

We were so bad that I am now worried about playing Coventry at Wembley

The players pick and choice which games they are going to turn up for.

Away to Brentford after an international break is the type of match they half arse.

Coventry at Wembley will be a match they turn up for.

Sad truth of the club over the last 10 years.

Seriously what have you seen this season that makes you believe he deserves to stay?

We deserved to lose by 3 or 4 ….nicked a point against run of play

Just about as bad as Moyes' game against Fulham.

Could barely mount a proper attack. Looked like a team that was assembled for a charity match.

This isn’t aimed at you cause I don’t believe it’s your belief but anyone that wants to keep EtH cause they don’t want Southgate is an idiot.

There are more managers than Southgate in this world & there is 0 actual evidence that it is one or the other.

You don’t keep a failing manager because newspapers decided to write articles about a national manager during an international break.

It’s another false argument people drum up to justify their blind faith in this failed project. If Ineos are going to hire Southgate then surely keeping EtH is just delaying the inevitable. I’m choosing to give them more credit & I was a sceptic.

If it is Southgate vs ETH then it's ETH for me.

But yeah, there are plenty of other options out there surely.

Exactly.

If the options actually are EtH or Southgate then I think it’d be 99.99% in favour of EtH but I refuse to believe that in March, Ineos have set their sights on a man that hasn’t coached club football since what 2008 or 2009.

It creates a false argument when people say EtH or Southgate imo. The real question is, does EtH deserve to keep his role & if people say yes, based on what exactly? Not some fake one or the other argument.

It's unbelievably bad. If ETH was called Grant and came from Bolton he'd have been gone months ago.

He's clearly a thicko with no real idea about football. Because he's Dutch there's this assumption that he understands football. He understands feck all.

Purely in terms of ETH's performance I don't think there's any decent argument to justify keeping him.

It's gutting because I like him and I thought he was going to be the one to really get us sorted but I can't justify this season. It's been appalling from the very first game, we get outplayed in 90% of our matches.

If the other option is Southgate then I agree I'd keep ETH.

I don't think there's any other defence for keeping him.

Southgate isn’t the only choice though.

The only other slight defence of ETH lies in the squad balance and injury issues through the season.

Week after week we bemoan McTominay starting or Rashford. Then you look at the bench and it’s an aging and just back from injury Casemiro or Antony that you can play instead. Hojlund had a poor game today and we had nobody to replace him with. Garnacho had started every game since November and is 19 and just back from international duty with Argentina. We should have a different option to play and he could have come on at 60-70 mins. AWB is a limited full back playing at right back let alone at left back.

None of that excuses the mess we saw though.

For me, that’s how business works. If I was doing poorly in my job, they’d sack me then find my replacement. They might leave me in situ & look to do things in the background but if I was failing minimum expectations they’d feck me off then deal with the fall out.

We’re not picking the next coach so it’s about judging what we have & he should go.

I’m with you on being gutted. When he was mentioned I think most went down a bit of an Ajax hole & thought we’d be seeing something resembling an identity.

It's just weird that this is what we've ended up getting from Ten Hag, I don't think short changed does it justice for how much he's failed to deliver what was promised.

We have endured a lot pathetic performance over the last 10-11 years but this is up there, right up with the worst of them. That said the measuring stick has been moved since ETH arrived, it feels like we have had some proper stinking once under his managerial era. This season has been nothing short of a stinker.

There is a method to the madness. ETH has a plan. Let’s trust the manager….nah…..just kidding. Get that beautiful fraud out of my club.

I'd say this is business as usual this season. It's hard to understand really because it came after a great performance against Liverpool, but I suppose we're where we deserve really. In fact I'm surprised we're 6th.

Yup. We’ve only had one good full game this entire season.
