The point is Phillips and Rice at the ONLY ones with the skill set. Yet Phillips hardly plays at club level so isn't match fit when in the squad. Now jusfast Imagine a scenario Rice gets injured and out of practice Phillps plays and gets suspended as a result. England would be beyond being down to bare bones in the role.No chance I can include Phillips in that these days. It’s been 3 years since he was an impact player.
Beyond? Modric won a Ballon d’Or, you mean Mainoo has higher potential than that even? With his skill set he could reach a Modric's level and possibly beyond.
England have Curtis Jones, Rico Lewis, Lewis Miley, Alex Scott, who have some of these chareteristics, Mainoo will eventually be an England regular but don’t think will be this summer, England are producing more midfielders of his ilk, I can’t think of a teenager has accomplished as him at this moment but there are a couple at an older age and ages below.Foden isn't a natural in deep areas and doesn't have the defensive nous for that, he's an attacker. Mainoo is good defensively, physically strong, but his press resistance and intelligence of how to play in deep areas to open up and receive a pass, keep the play ticking along/progress the ball is not something that any England midfielder has had since Scholes.
Ballon d'Platinum...Beyond? Modric won a Ballon d’Or, you mean Mainoo has higher potential than that even?
None of them are the same profile as Mainoo at all, not saying I believe he'll make the squad but he's different to those players you mentioned.England have Curtis Jones, Lewis Miley, Alex Scott, who for these chareteristics, Mainoo will eventually be an England regular but don’t think will be this summer, England are producing more midfielders of his ilk, I can’t think of a teenager has accomplished as him at this moment but there are a couple at an older age and ages below.
Yes more of a defensive midfielder, the rest are 8’s but they for example Rico Lewis and Jones could play as a roaming 6.None of them are the same profile as Mainoo at all, not saying I believe he'll make the squad but he's different to those players you mentioned.
Getting a bit ahead of ourselves. Modric peak level was on another planet. His offensive awareness much better. Also different type of players.Beyond? Modric won a Ballon d’Or, you mean Mainoo has higher potential than that even?
To be fair it won't do Mainoo any harm missing out on the Euros, United players are always the first to be scapegoated when something inevitably goes wrong for the National team.Yes more of a defensive midfielder, the rest are 8’s but they for example Rico Lewis and Jones could play as a roaming 6.
I think Lewis will get the nod beccause he’s been through the system and played under Pep, I rate Mainoo has having more potential though but that will be for the next World Cup I think.
Yeah agree with thisThe point is Phillips and Rice at the ONLY ones with the skill set. Yet Phillips hardly plays at club level so isn't match fit when in the squad. A reason why If a Mainoo for example develops steadily over the next half season. I'd wager he has a huge chance of making the Euros ahead of even a more experienced Angel Gomes.
He won't be going to the Euros. To be fair it won't do Mainoo any harm missing out on the Euros, United players are always the first to be scapegoated when something inevitably goes wrong for the National team.
Cool. I'd even add Garner to that if Everton stay up and he continues his progress under Dyche. He like Mainoo is blessed to play a role that lacks depth in the England set upYeah agree with this
I can dream can't I? With my FIFA 2023 development Goggles onBeyond? Modric won a Ballon d’Or, you mean Mainoo has higher potential than that even?
But we know what he can do with the ball so it was really refreshing to see him showcasing other aspects of his game. Looks to be a real gem.Don't think he didn't anything with the ball yesterday. But he did the Fred role of breaking up well, and won 7 or 8 headers which is bizarre and incredible?
There aren't two or three games a week though.
If a teenager is to be introduced the second half of this season is perfect.
Not sure how common it is for youngsters to show those physical leaps during an active campaign as opposed to over the summer and pre-season where there's usually those 'spurts' that see them come back levelled up (truth being that 3 months+ is a massive chunk of developmental time). We're on one game a week until the end of the season, he should be fine.
It's to move opponent players around and open up other lanes to pass the ball. For the life of me I can't understand why we make those short passes to the guy right in front of the goalkeeper, the player almost always looks under massive pressure, and it often ends up back with the goalkeeper, it seems very high risk for minimal gain.
None of those players are being tasked with being the first receiver from CB's to the midfield into open play, and especially not as a single pivot essentially depended upon to initialise and dictate those primary actions. We have a manager who is madcap enough to not only deploy Mainoo there from the outset, but also provide him with the least amount of support for the role, which means we get to see an extensive showcasing of what he's about and how he thinks and adapts to the problems at hand. As things currently stand, the majority of the players you've listed would be played in a supporting role in the same midfield as Mainoo - not challenging him for his spot - expected to progress the ball after he's given it to them.England have Curtis Jones, Rico Lewis, Lewis Miley, Alex Scott, who have some of these chareteristics, Mainoo will eventually be an England regular but don’t think will be this summer, England are producing more midfielders of his ilk, I can’t think of a teenager has accomplished as him at this moment but there are a couple at an older age and ages below.
Eventually in next couple years I see him being a mainstay in and around the England first team, don’t think Southgate will take the risk of taking him to Euros though, will be out of him Alex Scott Rico Lewis and Gomes and Jones I feel for next midfielders to step up and I think he’d go with the players who have played u21 football first and foremost, unless Mainoo has a Fabregas Wilshere like impact from now till the end of the season.
He was really quiet for all the rage, 10/12 passes. 18, missed a lot of the season, busy schedule. Why was he hooked at half time?
They hardly created a chance the first half with him as a lone pivot. The sub was horrificI think he was physically getting dominated, I don't really mind the sub instead of just letting him get battered by Yates and Gibbs-white.
Yep he was pretty quiet the whole half so I’m not going to blame EtH for trying something different. He was really quiet for all the rage, 10/12 passes. 18, missed a lot of the season, busy schedule.
This is why I said we need to make the change at HT, he was being swamped all game and barely had any effect.Yep he was pretty quiet the whole half so I’m not going to blame EtH for trying something different.
For all the hate, McT had much better numbers in terms of passing and tackles won
We should have gone to a 4-2-3-1 and got someone to help him not put in a wanderer who can't sniff danger at critical moments. This is why I said we need to make the change at HT, he was being swamped all game and barely had any effect.
As @Oranges038 says, if we could bring on Amrabaat or someone alongside him, I think we would have. I don't think it would be any benefit to him long term just letting him get battered. They hardly created a chance the first half with him as a lone pivot. The sub was horrific
A little like Michael Carrick in that sense.Great to see one of our midfielders that actually values possession and can play the simple game really well and looks physically equipped at a young age to cope with the Premier League.
If I have reservations about him it may be that he does not look that quick which can be exposed in England more than any other league but he looks like he has really good positional sense so it may not be an issue.
Stackable offence on its own that decision. Then ETH has the cheek to say we lost the game in the first half and that the second half was much betterA howler of decision to sub him off for McTominay.
That's great but we conceded two goals when he was on the pitch in areas where a competent dm might well have been stood.Yep he was pretty quiet the whole half so I’m not going to blame EtH for trying something different.

Carrick was no slouch.A little like Michael Carrick in that sense.
