Not a chance he should be getting a single penny more than Amad. As someone mentioned previously, this is exactly how you end up with the next Rashford.
 
Who is giving him advice? I am wondering how badly they are reading into the optics atm. Seeing how badly we are doing and how were are struggling with money.

1. It’s the Daily Mail, who rely on clicks to make money.
2. Even if they’ve been told this by his reps, it’s the absolute max they want including bonuses and CL football - because that’s how these cnuts report everything.
3. He has a contract for another three years.
4. Ineos have been sensible with wages so far.
5. He’s not really in any position to making demands after an underwhelming season.

I just don’t understand this place. You can already see the posts building. Comparing him to Rashford, he’s greedy. Blah blah. Based on one shitty article. Mainoo is not the one dealing with this, it’s his agents, they’re employed to make him as much money as they can. It’s our job to ensure we get value for money and everyone is happy.
 
It's sad, but if those are his demands he needs to be sold. We need a complete reset, and that means not giving out stupid wages to players who frankly aren't even starters.
 
If people are serious about a reboot we should consider selling a player who is injury prone and very slow, ie lacks the required physicality.
 
I’m not sure keeping him is best long term. His pace is an issue but he’s a wonderful footballer when he’s in his game, so could generate some funds.
Whilst he’s having a shocker this season, the whole squad is, so he gets a pass. However, if we are sticking with Amorim then I don’t think Mainoo is a key part in there. Not even sure what his best position in this system is.
Maybe he will play better when in a 4231 when Amorim gets sacked early next season.
 
Feels like someone needs to tell his camp to read the room. It couldn't be any clearer that INEOS are focused on getting costs down, and the era of idiotic contracts is over.

Also, if we're honest he's done nothing in half a year, and hardly kicked on from the initial great promise.

Has he ever payed a full 90 for us?
 
Whether the source is genuine or not, they should strongly consider selling Mainoo to the highest bidder. He is patently not worth the reported contract, not even half on current form and although he may be one of the better ball playing midfielders at the club, he is not dynamic enough nor strong enough to become the dominant midfield presence the team needs. Rather, fleece some other team who will pay him crazy wages, then spend the money on a genuine striker or stud midfielder. United cannot afford to carry luxury players now, so he should be sold.

If one only knows one tune, one must sing it whenever possible. So boring.
 
Might be worth cashing in. Injury prone, heart not really in it, doesn't have the workrate for a double pivot.

If Chelsea are dumb enough to offer big money and meet his wage demands we should take it and sign someone who has a better engine in midfield.

180k p/w is insane -- that's like a star player in the PL territory. He's nowhere close.

Yeah it's a tough decision. He's having a shocker because he doesn't really fit neatly in either a deep lying playmaker / regista type role or in a ball winner / runner role. Maybe we can squeeze him in as a #10 but I don't really see him fitting perfectly in Amorim's system. Maybe if he has a touch more pace and a better engine, he could rotate with Ugarte. Maybe he'll develop this, he's still very young.

Of course United being United, we'll probably sack Amorim by December and go back to a back four system. So what do you do? We need some strong leadership from people who know what they're doing.

If the 180k p/w demand is true, then good riddance, he can go to whoever is stupid enough to pay that. Otherwise I really would like him here.

He’s not worth that and I doubt this story does have any credibility. However, he really isn’t suited to this system and selling him only to revert to a more traditional formation would be poor management, like you say, but a real possibility for the club right now and we are going to have to sell players. Rashford is playing himself out of a move, which leaves Antony as the only potential sale. Mainoo, Garnacho, Bruno are all huge PSR deals for United and I expect one or two of those will be sold.
 
Regardless of his wage demands, he is a player we should consider selling if we get a good offer anyway. That is largely based on this stupid system we are playing, mind you, which wouldn’t suit so many good players in the game today. Be that as it may, we are indeed playing it, and I don’t see that he’s worth 70m+ to us in a double-pivot or as a forward player.

He’s a wonderful talent of course, plays football in what I consider to be the right way, but the fact is, the team doesn’t play this way. As has been said many a time, he lacks the running power to play in a two man midfield, and while his talents are probably more progressive - I don’t think they are so progressive in that he should play in a forward role.
 
Asking for insane wages if true. Not the first report of him asking for high wages either and the fact we're yet to agree a contract with him suggests that there's some truth in it.

Have to set an example and stop allowing players to take the piss out of the club if he's sticking to those supposed demands.

First, putting aside what I think of Mainoo as a player and his long term prospects for us...

We need to free up PSR dollars. The best strategy for that is to offload high-value, low-cost players, which naturally lends itself to selling high-value academy products. We don't have many who fit the bill. We are in an awful situation and tough decisions that people will dislike must be made. It sucks, but we can't get away from this.

Second, while it's obviously too early in his career to say for certain, my gut is that Mainoo won't make it as a starter at the top end of the PL. His game just isn't physical enough and he really isn't mobile enough in a league that's increasingly stacked with athletes. If he was a truly world class technical talent, it could compensate for his weaknesses, but I don't think he's demonstrated that he will reach that level. Also, he's English, so he'll trade at a premium to other PL clubs, who of course have the largest transfer budgets and may be inclined to offer the highest transfer fee.
 
I have a feeling come the end of the next transfer window he’ll be at Chelsea and Garnacho will be at Napoli, both due to an inflated sense of how good they actually are.

Plenty of time left on his existing contract so the club isn't under any pressure to do anything, any talks about a new contract should be put on ice until at least the end of this season.

If you're the club it's not the worst time to renegotiate...his stock isn't low but it's certainly not high right now, plenty of time left on the deal so you've got leverage as long as you want to offer him a half decent bump. If we think we want to commit to developing him here then now might actually be an excellent time to negotiate the deal rather than waiting until we're desperate and offering too much money.

Fans cautioning that it might be unwise to give him a huge salary bump at this point is not the same as "turning on" him

His agents don't care about the optics or the club finances. Their main concern is getting as much money as possible as a salary for their client, Mainoo.

It's a fact that we have a bench player on 340k per week. We have 2 players on loan which are on 300k+. So yeah, they will try their chance. And you know how it goes with negotiations. You ho high, I go low, and we meet somewhere in the middle.
 
Id like to keep him but there are flaws in his game that will hold him back. He just can't get around the pitch fast enough and that'll always be an issue.

But if the rumoured wage demand is true then I'd sell.

If I have to choose between giving him 180K/week or get 40-50 M pounds from him being sold, I'll choose the latter any day for the benefit
of the club and moving forward to get much better midfield with energy, pace, power and passing skill.

He's 19 though so you and everyone else writing him off are just indulging in fantasy. He shouldn't even be a starter for United at his age.
 
If we can’t tie him down for around 100k then sell him

I would mind to be honest. I even think 100k is a bit on the high side for him but I’m ok with it. He has a long way to go be getting paid like a bonafide starter at a UCL club.

Knives were already out before the « article ». He was hailed as the next best thing and now he’s injury prone and not good enough
