Lautaro Martinez

He's looked a bit slow and heavy since the start of the WC. He's been close to scoring though, I can see him getting the odd goal if the ball falls kindly but he doesn't look to me as our answer up front.

That's the problem. He's had so many chances served on a silver platter by Messi that he's screwed up. His decision making has been awful. His first instinct is to run into a group of defenders and lose the ball. When he has had those good chances, his shots have either gone way off target or too weak straight at the keeper. His 30-minute cameo yesterday was probably the worst I've seen of any forward in this tournament.

His form so far in the world cup isn't good but I still like his scrap and overall game. Thing is our striker need would be a good way to also address our size in the box and there are some bigger players they can add who seem to address the striker need plus add some threat for headers.

So if they add him I'm fine with the addition but yes it seems like he's behind some of the others. Plus Inter probably doesn't let him go cheaply so he seems unlikely atm.

Ive probably only seen him 8/9times and maybe the wrong games, only once have I been impressed by him, underwhelmed all the others but that goes for so many younger strikers at the moment. From the little I have seen of both, I would definately be starting Alvare for his movement, pace and work rate....not sure how good he will become but I think he offers more to the side with his attributes than I hav eseen from Martinez in any games I have seen anwyay.

Never seen him play, but I don't want him purely for the fact he seems to be in love with Inter and would have to be dragged out of Milan kicking and screaming.

That really won't end well, great player or not.

He's been bad and I don't rate him too high but this isn't his normal level. Not the first good player to look woeful in a tournament.

him and Lisandro were the the only ones willing to shake the hand when Weighorst approached them after the game. fair play.

Yeah Lisandro gives the impression of an absolute warrior on the pitch but a very decent guy afterwards

Yeah he’s been in horrible form this World Cup. Will be an immense boost for his confidence and hopefully for Argentina, going into the semis.
I agree with the confidence of that penalty shot we might see him factor in tonight. Dangerous player when he's on his game.

Seems like a pretty thick /not so bright player. Can't explain that feeling.

Very fortunate the rebound fell to Messi for Argentina's third. All he had to do was slide it across to Messi for a tap in, and instead he took on a shot from a wide angle. What a donkey.

Martinez does a lot of good things but he never comes across as clinical. Alvarez would've taken one of those chances.

Utterly woeful.
Through on goal, falls over.
Chance to win it last seconds, heads not just wide, but miles off.
Great chance at 2-2, saved, lucky Messi was there to tap in.

And similarly hapless in every other game.
