I'm old enough to remember Peter Ndlovu getting his name absolutely butchered by commentators/pundits in different ways for about a decade.Sorry to derail the thread, but this is one thing about the pronunciation of African names by some Europeans which always irritates me. I don’t get why they always feel the need to emphasise on the beginning M or N of African names.
The worst is placing an apostrophe after the first letter (usually for M or N, followed by a consonant) to indicate that it must be emphasised.
In Mbappe’s example, the pronunciation is seamless without need to emphasise on the M or create a new syllable at the beginning which isn’t there.
